Now that we're getting closer to this I think we should discuss it. Why are Terminator and Night at the Museum opening on the same day? It seems, well, silly! Night at the Museum doesn't even make sense as counter-programming. Kids like Terminator! I mean...I could understand if Terminator was rated R. The underaged would just buy tickets for Museum and sneak into Terminator, but Terminator is PG-13. So...what's the deal?

One of them should have moved to June.

Night at the Museum 2 will more than likely suffer from Disney's mistake last year to release Prince Caspian in the summer. This movie would have been gold in the winter like the first one was. I mean, at least it could have taken one of the MANY, MANY weekends in between June and August where there wouldn't be any direct competition or other juggernaut anticipated blockbusters looming around the corner.

Even if it wins the weekend, Terminator Salvation will take a huge chunk out of it's opening weekend because it is a big budget action film, a Terminator film, stars Christian Bale hot off of The Dark Knight, and is PG-13. Really, who's idea was it for Night at the Museum 2 on the same weekend as Terminator Salvation?

I must be living in a cave because I didn't even know there was a Night of the Museum 2 coming out this month. I haven't seen any advertising for it at all in L.A. I've seen Terminator ads everywhere.

As for whose idea was it? Duh, Tom Rothman, of course. He's a genius!

Never underestimate the general public's ability to go full ******. Not to mention movie that take themselves seriously haven't been doing so well these days.

It's a safe (albeit lame) alternative for families. Is this really that confusing a question?

Even if it's a "safe" movie for families it's still not gonna beat Terminator. And it's gonna under-perform. And considering that the first one was a BIG hit in December of 2006 it seems dumb to release the sequel opposite one of the most anticpated movies of the summer.

Weren't you predicting Fast & Furious was gonna die in it's opening weekend? Look how that went.

The main audience for Terminator is teenagers, the main audience for Night is whole families. It's not as cut and dry as you think.

Yea, last year you could have said the same about Iron Man and Speed Racer or Iron Man and Prince Caspian. We all know how that turned out.

Not really. Iron Man looked like (and was) a fun action comedy that appeals to everyone.

Terminator doesn't appeal to everyone? The franchise has been around for 25 years. I'm sure it has some fans. :cwink:

No doubt. I'm not speaking in absolutes just in possibilities.

In all seriousness. Only one can be #1. And chances are it'll be Terminator. It has hype. Night at the Museum doesn't. Secondly, you know what comes out the following week? Pixar's Up. What do you think parents will take their kids to? In conclusion...FOX screwed up. They had plenty of space in June.

I didn't even consider that. That changes things. They should've released it in December again really.

I will be seeing Terminator Salvation opening weekend, regardless of the competition. I will catch Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian on HBO just like I did the first movie.

Night at the Museum 2 is going to flop, just like all of Fox's movies this year have. Terminator is going to chew it to a pulp, spit it out, and then pee on whatever's left of it.

The reason why Night at the Museum did as well as it did was because it was released around Christmas and had virtually NO COMPETITION.

Disney just kinda killed the sequel by sticking it in the summer, on the same day that a BETTER FILM would be released. They deserve their bomb for being this ******ed to do that.

Terminator will smoke it.

Imagine kids being asked... "Kids, do you want a wacky museum movie, or Batman fighting Terminators"?

I was thinking the same thing here.

I have no idea. What the hell was Fox thinking? They clearly thought by putting this and Wolverine closer together would make more money in a shorter amount of time.

FOX thinking?

i think this movie fits more in december then in may.

Maybe because it's got more of an eye on its international haul, since Salvation doesn't open in some territories for a number of weeks after its US release, but I'm pretty sure it's a simultanious launch for NATM
