Terry Gilliam Reiterates That Superhero Films Are "Boring" But Says 'Avengers: Infinity War' "Made Me Smile"

The article's opening paragraph;

"If you stop and think about it, something special could come out of the marriage of filmmaker Terry Gilliam and the superhero genre. His visually dynamic, often off-beat, filmmaking style would lend itself to a truly unique take on what is becoming an oversaturated and homogenized genre."

Would you be interested in seeing a Gilliam superhero movie? (In a parallel universe obviously, as I can't see it happening here!) And if so, are there any particular characters/stories you'd like to see him tackle?

I don't dislike Gilliam, but this is the same man who had to record himself explaining Tideland to people before he released it because he was sure people wouldn't "get" it. I'm okay with him not jumping into the CBM genre.

Huh, I didn't know he did that. I quite enjoyed Tideland.

I remember Gilliam's name was actually attached to Watchmen at one point.

Rewatched Time Bandits yesterday.

IMO straight up superhero stories don't suit Gilliam's style - but there are other types of cbm stories that might - some of the more bizarre or quirky, maybe certain Sandman stories ? IDK.

It's on the DVD. I thought it was a really bizarre way to start. If you have to tell your audience how to watch something then you clearly made a mistake somewhere.

Yes, that does seem a bit odd.

Gilliam doing Sandman is an intriguing thought...

The thing about Gilliam is that he's a deconstructionist and his films deconstruct whatever genre they're dealing with - Time Bandits, while an sci-fi comedy film has an almost Douglas Adams take on the nature of the universe, Gilliam takes it a step further with his exploration of the necessity of the existence of evil.

That would have worked with Watchmen, which is a very clever deconstruction of the superhero genre.

Gilliam is a crazy sonova *****... thats why i love him. And whilst i do love my superheroes... hes not wrong really.

He'd do very interesting things with Sandman or Lucifer.

I don't get why people care when a director or filmmaker says they don't like SH movie or that they're not their thing.

Gilliam has made some of my favorite films (12 Monkeys, Holy Grail) and he’s also made some stuff that I struggled to get all the way through (Brothers Grimm, Dr. Parnassus). But if these comments bother you, you should check out his idiotic response to the Me Too movement. Gilliam should probably just never open his mouth because when he does, he makes an ass out of himself.

Gilliam is a genius.

If he wants to **** on comic book movies, let him. I don't care. He makes amazing films.

I love Gilliam's early work and attitude in general and I certainly don't mind comments like that. It's been a long while since he last made a good movie, though.

I enjoyed The Zero Theorem.
