With the possibility of the rpg ban being lifted I decided to test the interest pool and see if anyone would be interested in taking part in a new Transformers rpg? This one, unlike the first TF rpg, will follow where the movie left off. With Megs supposedly dead and most of his troops along with him as well as the surviving Autobots pronouncing Earth their new home.

Movie continuity? Pfft.
If it were a mix of the current comics and Transformers Animated, then I'd jump on that in a second as Megatron and Lockdown (and if a third character were allowed, I'd go with Springer).

I don't want the movie continuity mixed in with this one. Movie continuity RPG's (i.e. Movie, WSS?, Transformers) don't ever survive.

Well with the Movie's continuity being to small you can bring in Lockdown and Springer and have them act however you want.

I'd be down for trying out Optimus Prime, regardless of which interpretation it would end up being.

....mixed with what? This rpg will spin off from where the movie left off.

Which would make it worse off. Especially with the sequel coming out next year, people will lose interest in the RPG in anticipation for it. I agree with Spike on this. Make it based on the comics and/or new TV series and it'll be alot better off in the longrun. I'd so be up for playing Bumblebee or Bulkhead from Animated.

The only way I'd be interested is if the Autobots and Decepticons were already on Earth. Frankly, the Cybertron part of the last RPG dragged so long, and I just found it tedious. Plus, having gone through that whole origin in the last RPG, I would be bored to tears doing it all over again.

That's one thing with the comic book continuity; even if the RPG starts before the Transformers arrive on Earth, the war is also being waged on many different planets under similar, if not identical, conditions as the battle on Earth. And unlike the movie or even the original cartoons, disguise is a large part of their culture for both Autobots and Decepticons (the movie had a bit of that, but not much; and in the cartoon, they might as well have been walking around in robot mode 24/7, cuz disguise obviously wasn't a big deal to them).

And with the Animated continuity, Megatron isn't a brutish simpleton like he was in the movie. He's also not dead. There's a number of non-Transformers villains to play around with as well.

The codes of conduct for the war, introduced in the new comics, are amazing story angles, and give Ultra Magnus a new and interesting role as a bounty hunter that enforces those rules of conduct, instead of just being another soldier under Optimus. Or Magnus could be the stoic veteran from Animated.

I mean, ideally, everyone will be happy and both TF RPGs can be made; one based on the movie, and one based on the new G1 comics/Animated. All the same, however, I am curious about what the plot of a movie-based game would be, considering that Megatron is dead, the cube is destroyed, the world is aware of the Transformers' existence, and Cybertron is supposedly a barren wasteland.

Well im sure we can find some kind of plot to roll with. Maybe a certain planet eater perhaps.......

well im trying to cater for the people (like myself) who hasn't read the recent comics or watched the new series. With this the only continuity you need to know is whats been done in the movie.

It's not that I hate the idea. Quite the opposite in truth, but it's just that movie-continuity related RPGs tend to die. Same with TV-continuity RPGs (Smallville, Heroes...). If they lasted longer, and the was no Transformers sequel in the making, then I'd so be up for it, maybe Sam or (again) Bumblebee, but there is another movie being made and this might not last any longer than the last version.

That's why we'd have players coming up with the backstory of the universe and writing it up in the first IC post as an introduction. Just like all the other RPGs.

Exactly. Let's not base it on any continuity. Let's do our own.

(I'm still not committing yet, by the way. I'll see what goes down first.)

Thank you. I've never said to take off from Animated's story, or from some set point in the comics; just base an RPG out of some customized continuity that's a combination of the two. The movie's continuity is just too drastically different to incorporate it into that, much like the Unicron trilogy of Armada, Energon, and Cybertron. There are elements that just don't fit together (the makeup of the movie Cybertron and Cybertronians being a very obvious example).

Plus I have ideas to use an Animated/G1 comics RPG as the backstory for a Beast Wars game, if it ever gets made. :ninja:

Why was I not informed of this thread? :cmad:

Anyway, I don't really care what continuity, type, or whatever we base or make this off of. I just want a transformers RPG. I'll be down for Ironhide and Starscream.

Personally I don't think we should do a fusion of the animated and the comics cause wasent that what we did before? If anything I'd be up for starting completely from scratch. Just expect my characters to look like movie versions. I also wanna go on the record and call dibs on Hot Rod. :trans:

Sorry if im sounding pushy bout this but what happened to this and the Heroes rpg always bugged me.

I didn't hear the magic word you uncivilized bastard!

No. Where'd you hear that?

That is what was done in the last RPG.

So......yeah.

Anyway Iv been reading the comics from IDW and im more psyched to do a Transformers rpg. But we really need to iron out how to approach it. Personally I don't see why picking up where the movie left off would be such a problem. The sequel really wouldn't effect it cause it won't be in the RPG's continuity plus the way they ended the movie leaves it open to bring in any Autobot or Decepticon you want. Plus it would save us the trouble of getting everyone to Earth (which was what slowed us down in the first RPG) and go right into an arc.

I'm confused. We've had interest in this RPG...and yet, no one seems to care.

You guys should shut up and come join the Star Wars RPG.

Mwahahahahaha!

*runz*
