Why the heck would Magneto go to all that trouble to pretend to be Xorn for months just so he could infilitrate the X-men? He was living with 3 of the MOST powerful telepaths in the world (one with Phoenix level power) and not one of them had any inkling that Xorn was the man that they have known for years and have fought with and against?
He became Xorn so that he could get into the inner workings of the X-Men and learn how to take them out before he takes out New York, that way they can't stop him like they have every other time they've faught. He created the Xorn persona for that perpous and his mask was designed so that his thoughts couldn't be read, thus, the telepaths weren't a problem. And lastly, he created the "star for a brain" idea so that he'd never have a reason to take it off. Makes sense to me.
He wanted to turn NY into a New Genosha. Fine. But what was the point of creating the Xorn persona? He could have done the same thing he did without doing that. Seemed more like a huge waste of his time to put in all that extra effort. That reveal was for shock value and nothing else. And Xorn's powers were healing powers. How the hell did Magneto manage that?
If he just tried to turn New York into New Genosha off the cuff, the whole X-Men Team would be there to stop him, as usual. His infiltrating them as Xorn took out that possibility. I think it was atually kinda genious. And he never had healing powers. If you look at how Xorn used his powers, they were only metalic based. When asked to heal someone in a way that Magneto couldn't mock, he found a way out of it. It was kinda cool to go back and see it after the fact.
And his army were children? Thats not Magneto's style. He has enough adult followers with experience who would have fought along side him. He doesnt use children on the front lines like that. When he almost killed Kitty back in the 80s, he felt majorly guilty for that bc she was so young.
I will agree that this was a bit of a stretch for him, but it was done well enough in the comic to make it believable for the story.
He goes about things the wrong way, but Mags for the most part makes sense. The Magneto in Planet X was just plain crazy. I guess that can be blamed on the Kick. And his reasoning for the attack on NY was bc of what happened to Genosha, well it was a mutant who did that, not a human! Seemed his anger was misdirected
To this day, most do not know that Cassandra Nova directed the attack. Almost everyone thought it as the humans who sent the sentinels. It would make sense that Magneto would to.
Overall I thought the story was beautifully done. There were some shady parts, but I just thought it was phenominal. I hated that they wiped most of it away now and had the whole Xorn mixup, but the story itself was phenominal... and a great read.
