So the show kicks of on June 24th, on Tuesday. I know Usher's performing with Beyonce and Lil Wayne, but who are you guys most excited to see? The only downfall is the host, D.L Hughley, because to me he isn't funny. Other than that I wanna see Chris Brown, Rihanna, and others. The Lifetime Acheivement Award will be given to soul icon Al Green and the Humanitarian Award will be given to legendary music producer Quincy Jones.

You'll have to tell me all about it. All I have is TiVo and I'm thinking their fee is a little steep. Post pictures, I need to see what everyone is wearing...okay not everyone. :o

Actually you better post the good, the bad and the ugly.

If I can. But i'm pretty sure you can watch some stuff on youtube.

Yay, the show comes on in 2 hours and 25 minutes! I'm excited, mostly for the performances. I guess nobody else likes the BET awards......?

Having watched every painstaking minute of this badboy, they should've just renamed it:

The "Mainstream Hip Hop Really Is Dead" Showcase of 2008

As expected it sucked monkey balls. :o

WTF was Cassie wearing? Skank.

Why do we have awards shows like this, the Country Music Awards, and the Latin Grammys? We already have the Grammys which represent every genre, nationality, and race there is.

I think youre seriously underestimating how big those two genres are. Country music and especially Latin music are supporting whole industries separate from mainstream music. There are several sub genres within latin music, that having their own awards ceremory is the only way to represent everyone. There's salsa, merange, latin jazz, tejano, reggaeton, etc. Latin music is ridiculously diverse, and can't just be lumped into one or two categories.

All right, but why does R&B and Rap need the BET awards, the soul train awards, and the vibe awards? Do we really need all these duplicate awards shows? It all just seems like an excuse for musicians/actors/celebrities to continuously pat themselves on the back.

BET awards...what a waste of time. Two hours of patting faded rap stars on the back andnot much else. You can telll It's a two bit popularity contest by the results.

I mean Halle berry wins best actress, Kobe wins best male athlete? Kanye west wins BIG DEAL. Y'know no one obscure never wins a BET, Soul Train or Image award, or any award on an award show for that matter. I mean do these award shows have any value with so many of them out there?

A poster on this board had it right the first time Watch BET and you'll become ******ed.

I agree completely.

Because BET, the TV station, chose to have awards. Why are there Country Music Awards and CMT Awards? Why are there the MTV Video Music Awards? Why are their World Music Awards? Why are there Billboard Music Awards? This can even branch out to the film and TV genres. Why are there Golden Globe Awards when there are the Emmys, Daytime Emmys, and Academy Awards? Why are there People's Choice and Teen Choice Awards? It's because the people behind them feel it is necessary.

This is not just for R&B and Rap. It's for all genres of music, TV, and film. As far as I'm concerned, since I am not affected in any way, I couldn't care less how many award shows are out there. The TV stations, and people behind the various award shows choose to have them. They want the chance to award the various actors and musicians with their own awards, etc. An increase in ratings sure doesn't hurt either.

Well, it seems like one big ego trip to me.

Oh, I'm not saying it's not one big ego trip. Award shows like the BET awards are wastes of time, plain and simple. Mainstream Hip-Hop only continues to get worse because of it.

nice to see en vogue...other than that blah

OH..MY...GOD. That was the most boring, worst piece of crap I have EVER seen. I'm seriously in shock. I expected so much more and the performances was HORRIBLE. Especially Keyisha Cole, who apparently is trying to sing like Beyonce or Mariah with that ugly ass vocal run that she attempted to do. The entire thing was trash and the only moments I liked were when TLC & SWV came out. WOW, mabe next year.

The only award show I ever watch is the Academy Awards and sometimes the MTV movie awards (for the spoofs mostly).

I don't usually watch the BET Awards anymore, but I heard over the radio that it was pretty crappy this year.

I liked when Will and Jada hosted the most. The first time Monique hosted was funny too.

The Alicia Keys/SWV/En Vogue/TLC thing was the best part of the night, right there with Al Green's tribute.
