Whats this whole NBC thing? Is it about the Jay Leno thing too. What's the story behind all of that

Long story short: NBC placed a big bet on Leno and failed, and now they've screwed Conan over in a lame attempt to fix their mistake.

That's basically the cliffnotes version.

Avatar winning makes me sick.

It's going to be Titanic 2.0 at the Oscars and another stroke to Cameron's ego.

James Cameron just won Best Director for Avatar.

Titanic all over again...flashy effects beat out great stories again. That sucks.

Well:

- In 2004, Conan was planning on leaving NBC when his contract for Late Night was over. NBC wanted to keep him by giving him the Tonight Show in 2009. A replacement for Conan on Late Night began.
- Jay Leno, who was beating Letterman in the Ratings nightly, would be pushed aside for Conan.
- Jay was planning on jumping to either Fox or ABC, so NBC got desperate and created "The Jay Leno Show" at 10PM/9PM Central, causing problems for their primetime lineup.
- Jimmy Fallon was named to replace Conan on Late Night.
- Conan moved to Los Angeles as did most of his cast and crew.
- Jay's ratings began to tank and NBC wanted to move Leno back to his old timeslot.
- The plan was Leno at 11:35, Conan at 12:05 and Fallon at 1:05. Jay accepted the move, but Conan did not, which is what led to this whole thing.
- Many celebrities are backing Conan. Only Jerry Seinfeld is in support of Jay Leno. George Lopez is in support of neither. Letterman and Kimmel support Conan, especially Letterman, who went through the same thing in 1993.

BY moving Leno back to 11:35 is he pushing Conan back?

A half hour, but Conan wants none of that and is leaving NBC.

And Conan has the support of most of the Hollywood Community. I mean Tom Hanks took a shot at NBC at the Red Carpet tonight as did Julia Roberts.

Now that's cold.

alright it all makes sense now

I'm very curious to see how this does against 24.

I have not seen Avatar, but I thought that the Hurt Locker deserved Best Picture and Best Director.

Christoph Waltz, Jeff Bridges and Up were definite locks. It would have been shocking if any of those did not win.

I'm currently watching this as well and I have to ask, when the cast and director of Mad Men were giving their speech...who was that red head? :wow:

Christina Hendricks who plays Joan on Mad Men, and is a super hottie :fhm:

I do wish Michael Giacchino had been nominated for Star Trek rather than Up...

I was disappointed that Avatar won Best Picture. I thought Hurt Locker and Up in the Air were better films. Cameron deserved the director award for how much work he put into the film. But Avatar was definitely not the best picture of the year, IMO.

That's crazy talk.

Up had a fine score, but Star Trek blew it out of the water IMO. But either way, Giacchino winning is a great thing.

Up > Star Trek

I agree.

The first half of the show was great, plenty of deserving winners:

Monique,Up for both awards,Hall+Lithgow,The White Ribbon...as soon as Cameron won it turned into a big pile of Avaturd :csad:

RDJ over Damon,Levitt and Michael Stauhbarg???

Bullock over Mulligan and Sidibe??

Avatar over Basterds,The Hurt Locker,Up In The Air?

Just awful...their point was Boxoffice>>>quality,substance

is it just me or did everyone hate with their eyes Cameron when he won director and movie?i got a feeling that they can not stand him. ''a guy who made a movie with blue people won? ''

look its pretty simple. Kathryn Bigelow should have won the director. ok? doesnt matter how much money avatar made and how good Cameron is. she deserved it. and she is a female director in hollywood.i am angry.

Did Jason Reitman look pissed at the Cameron win?

Carey Mulligan and Hurt Locker got robbed.
