The 2012 Republican National Convention

I'd be willing to accept Christie's "hard truths" if they were actually, you know, true.

I don't think it's fair to characterize the whole GOP that way, but I think the GOP really needs to take a surgical razor to their fringe.

I dunno. It happening where it did is what makes it stand out as an example of why the Latino vote is being repelled. Like, actively told to turn the other way. It happening at the Republican Convention is what's amazing to me about it.

It's also got to be the type of thing drive the people who are trying to keep something that is susceptible to spontaneity, as linear and scripted as humanely possible. It reminds me of something Rachel Maddow mentioned the other day, when she talked about how the first time the conventions were ever able to be listened by Americans over the radio and how well put together the Republicans were able to keep things and how horribly divided the Democrats were. A fistfight breaking out, with political posters being used as WWE style weapons in fight that was covered in a play-by-play game way.

I saw that story, but really didn't care. It was one guy.

No matter how many times I see him or hear him, Rick Santorum continues to make me sick.

(I almost said "Santorum makes me sick" but decided against it.)

Santorum is one of the more repellent political figures I can think of. He's right next to Michele Bachmann, for me.

At least with Michele Bachmann, there's some entertainment value. She's a woman fronting for one of the most misogynistic political ideologies in western democracy, so we all know she can only get so far with that, so we can laugh at her a little.

But Santorum is the real deal, which makes any potential elevation of him to a position of executive power quite frightening.

What does everyone think about the criticism that Christie's been getting?

I think that speech could have used way more Romney. I mean, that's the point of the convention, isn't it? To sell the American people on Romney?

I'll say this too, I think Ann Romney continues to be the best voice for the campaign. I thought she gave a great speech. There was a bit of a stretch in trying to connect with working moms, but aside from that...I thought she did as good a job as she could to humanize Romney.

To humanize Romney? Does he need to be humanized?

I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed. If I didn't know any better, I would have thought Chris Christie was an independent who was criticizing BOTH parties for being poor stewards of the public trust.

That may be what Christie actually believes, but is not the type of speech one gives at a convention. A convention speech should be an unabashed, unquestioning endorsement of the nominee AND validation of the entire party's policy and almost everyone in the room.

I am on the side Christie's speech sounded like a Christie in 2016 primer. lol

Here's the thing with Chris Christie. He's all about Chris Christie and he's setting himself up for 2016 if Romney doesn't win in November. Hell, he might be setting himself up for 2016 even if Romney does win. And honestly, he hasn't done anything here in NJ to prove that he's ready for anything other than slash budgets and bark loud.

I can see some sense in what both of you are saying, especially upon viewing his speech from last night. I'd be less than happy about that if I was Romney, though.

Here is how the speech sounded to me.

The first 2/3 was all about how great the job he did was. I actually thought it was a great speech if he was campaigning for himself personally.

The last 1/3 sounded like a bunch of balony about how Romney and the Republicans will continue the campaign(ie dealing about "real issues", i assume such as the welfare ads they been promoting that have been proven false, but that doesn't stop the Republicans from saying it) and how they want to work in bi-partisan fashion, with a sprinkle of attack towards unions

Can't disagree with any of that. Even Obama's show-stealing speech from the 2004 Dem convention was really about hyping up the crowd and laying out an optimistic vision of the country. Christie's speech seemed a lot more self-serving and self-critical.

Christie's speech was self accolades as well as a slap to the face to wake people up. We don't need anymore politicians that don't do **** or good hope speeches. Love Christie or hate him, he's done a lot. I can't blame Christie, he was in an uphill battle from the left and even some of the GOP when he first got elected. Then at the end was his probably forced support of Romney.

As I said I thought it was a wonderful speech about Chris Christie and how he does stuff, but in no way did it speak to me about how Mitt Romney or the Republicans in general do things(infact their was a couple things he said that could equally be a strike against the republicans as it is towards Obama/democrats)

As I said Christie in 2016

By the way if I am Chris Christie, you know what I would complain about

Look at who is last(or first) on this list, then look at the NJ unemployment rate(which is one of the higher ones in the country). Something doesn't add up. I should probably add Nevada and California as states with terrible unemployment that should be *****ing

That was from 2004...when things were great and everyone had their hands in the trough.

The percentages are still very similar now

I found this article which looks like it has up to 2010

As I said it still looks like New Jersey is getting screwed. All I know is if I was a governor in one of the states that gets back less then 1 dollar for every dollar they put in I would point out how other states are leeching off the system.

I live in NJ and I can't see what Christie has acomplished. We're 47th in job creation. The best thing going for us is the Prudential Center in Newark, the two trendy bars across the street from it, and the new Marriott being built behind it. His plans for Atlantic City aren't going anywhere. American Dream, aka the mega mall in the swamp formally called Xanadu, is still an unfinished eye sore on Route 3. Camden is worse than Detroit. Like I said in another post, what has he really done other than bark really loud?

http://www.slate.com/blogs/the_slat..._camerawoman_toss_peanuts_at_her_report_.html

Here's a story from last night's GOP convention that Republicans could no doubt live without as they make their pitch to the American public this week. CNN reports:

"Two people were removed from the Republican National Convention Tuesday after they threw nuts at an African-American CNN camera operator and said, 'This is how we feed animals.'

"Multiple witnesses observed the exchange and RNC security and police immediately removed the two people from the Tampa Bay Times Forum."

The cable news network isn't giving the story a lot of play this morning, and only posted an item on it after Talking Points Memo first reported the news last night. Nonetheless, it is probably worth pointing out that the CNN post makes no effort to soften its lede with "allegedly" or anything similar.

The official statements coming from RNC organizers and the CNN brass last night provide only vague details of what happened.

Convention organizers: "Two attendees tonight exhibited deplorable behavior. Their conduct was inexcusable and unacceptable. This kind of behavior will not be tolerated."

And CNN's statement: "CNN can confirm there was an incident directed at an employee inside the Tampa Bay Times Forum earlier this afternoon. CNN worked with convention officials to address this matter and will have no further comment.”

The first account of the incident, unsurprisingly, came via Twitter in the form of a tweet from former MSNBC and Current anchor David Shuster: "GOP attendee ejected for throwing nuts at African American CNN camera woman + saying 'This is how we feed animals.'"

Obviously these two morons dont represent all Republicans but this is certainly not the kind of press that the RNC is looking for.

And to show a certain bias from journalists covering the RNC, Yahoo news editor David Chalian was fired for making an anti-Romney joke that was caught on an open mic.

Also, House candidate Mia Love of Utah had her Wikipedia page defaced with several racial epithets.

Couple of questions..

Where was NJ before he took office? Are you voting for Obama or Romney?

Why do you think those big projects are taking so long or stopped like the plans for another tunnel?

MSNBC cut away and didn't air any of the black or Latino speakers...no joke. And they have the nerve to cry racism every week from old turds like Al Sharpton.
