When you’re talking about longstanding “traditions“, casual sexual harassment of and throwing himself onto women without consensual approval has to be included in there, right? Because that’s also part of his history. Have to keep that!

Also, pretty rich of you to complain about long-standing, traditionally white characters being recast as a different race, invoke terms like “ identity, politics” and “cultural continuity”, “forcing diversity” and call us “not serious people” when we have a very unserious man and clown in office signing executive orders and hell-bent on removing any trace of actual pieces of non-white and diverse history, taking away women’s voices and agency, ruining our economy and colluding with and trying to benefit the kinds of people that your so-called “cultural icon“, if he were to exist in real life, would absolutely be disgusted by and happily and readily take down if given the order.

But, you know, maintaining “aesthetic history” and “cultural identity”, right? Wouldn’t want to break the “immersion” and “confuse” or “alienate” anybody.

The idea of tradition. Craig was considered "too ugly" to be Bond. Not enough of a ladies man. Something else based around appearance that ignored presence and acting.

Tradition can be such an ugly word, especially in the hands of countries that fancied themselves empires.

Based on appearance and yet he's still a white male, so what's your point? When photos leaked of Craig coming out of the water in Casino Royale hs detractors were silenced. The only people still crying about Craig's looks are the same people who rode the craignotbond train which was a futile effort. James Bond is not supposed to be a pretty boy model and the same people you mention who cried about Craig notbbeing a ladies man typically and evidently don't know how sexcappeal works.There are many white actors often thrown aboutvwho could have been or should be Bond and they're not exactly manly-looking enough for the role or lack the appeal and charisma for the role. Still, people can bring up Craig till your blue in the face but whatever issues some people had with him, he at the very least was was capable and white, which is my point.

You are so close to getting it. And yet you keep repeating the phrase, "White Male" as if it's some sort of protective bubble that will keep you from the very scary men of color coming to take Bond away from you. As if doubters wouldn't be shut up by a very good non-white actor in the role of Bond.

When it comes to Bond the character. His age is going to updated again. He's going to be a kid of the late 80s at the oldest. Probably the 90s. At that point if you think he needs to be white growing up in 90s Britain, then you're just ignoring what Britain looks like.

Yeah, Elba is pretty much aged out of the role at now, but that doesn't change that a lot of people wanted him in the role in his prime.

As for addressing your points, keep in mind, a lot of posters here are not british. As I have seen it explained to me, Bond has to be white because of class. Which is ****ing stupid to most people. And reeks of the same insanity of when Harry married Meghan.

Bond doesn't have to be white because of class. The people who subscribe to that logic are delusional. Bond in Britain alone could easily be looked down upon by groups of poc who are better educated and wealthier than he is. Bond should be white for reasons I've already mentioned.

Hollywood has been casting white people to play non-white characters since forever; so I'm okay with it going the other way sometimes.
I mean, we've had a white:

So yeah, I think people should be able to handle a non-white Bond. I'd like to desi/Indian Bond myself; make that colonialism work both ways.

And here is the thing, unlike James Bond...it is much more vital for many of these characters to be POC because of either their heritage or the world they live in.
But you never hear the same outrage of a whitewashed character as you see when even the idea comes up of a character been made POC.
