I love M*A*S*H. It's so great. From the opening theme to the dialogue it has to be one of the best shows ever!

So, Trapper John or BJ Honeycutt?

I like Honeycutt better.

I agree!! When I was a kid, I associated M*A*S*H* with very boring Sunday afternoons. As I got a little older I started watching it later at night and just grew to love it. I remember watching the final episode and getting choked up. Both Honeycutt and Trapper John were great, but I agree with you on Honeycutt.

Trapper or BJ... I could go either way, honestly.

M*A*S*H was funny, but I think it should have stopped after season 7. After Radar left it just wasn't as entertaining either comically or dramatically.

What did you guys think about the chuckle track?

I guess the nework wanted a laught track and Alda and the producers didn't, so they compromised and used a chuckle track.

I kind of like it because the laughter sounds like uneasy laughter it's like the audience is looking in to the war and while they at first feel uncomfortable, they become more at ease through laughter.

I thought the chuckle track kind of made it ok to laugh even though the actual subject matter was a sad reality. I like your thought process TW.

Thanks. It's a little thought I came up with a little while ago.

lol You give me hope for the future TW. Not all young adults are brainless Mtv zombies.

My obsession with this show I have always said is completely unhealthy

and it is

Everyday on the hallmark channel:up:

BJ or Trapper? Hard choice. Either way.

Thanks AllThingsComic, lol.

Yeah, I'm happy that this show is on the Hallmark channel (so is Walker, ugh)
but I also get M*A*S*H on my local FOX station at one.

Damn man. You are asleep at 1pm? I make sure I'm awake so I won't miss M*A*S*H. One of my summer joys.

M*A*S*H is one of my all time favorite shows. I watch it every day on Hallmark(actually watching it right now) and I have the 1st 10 seasons on DVD. I like the episodes with BJ better then Trapper John episodes. When I watch it on DVD I watch it w/o the laugh track on.

I don't quite like this episode too much

probably because I've watched it so much

My favorite M*A*S*H episode was when everyone had a dream and it turn into a nightmare. At the end no body wanted to sleep

M*A*S*H and All in the family were great show's

I have a love hate realtionship with it. My dad use to watch it and would be so annoyed. As I gained better understanding I appreciated the show. But now I think I've out grown it,if nothing else is on I'll watch it.
I was particulary turned off when I caught them calling for 'spearchucker jones' or some bull****. A friend tried to explain that it was an on going joke, but yeah I wasn't amused.

I loved M*A*S*H.
I liked Hawkeye and BJ. Trapper John's character just really wasn't really as developed. I agree aboout after Radar leaving, it wasn't as good. Now I really liked Henry Blake, but Potter was good as well. I liked Frank Burns over Charles Winchester.
One thing I liked when characters were replaced they did not make the mistake of making trying to do the same character through two people.
I mean like when Henry Blake left, Sherman Potter was not a Henry Blake rip-off. Potter was his own character. BJ Hunnicutt was not like Trapper John McIntyre. When Frank Burns left Charles Winchester was not like Frank in being goofy. Even when Radar left and Klinger took his spot Klinger had been Klinger, although I think he ditched the cross dressing getting out the army bit, but Klinger didn't change into the innocent boy ala radr. Each character had their own personality.

M*A*S*H was better with Trapper John, Henry Blake and Frank Burns, but it was damn impressive that their replacements were all so good.

I understand why you'd be bothered, but the name was used in jest and intended to be sadly ironic (like a lot of the show). Oliver "Spearchucker" Jones was an athlete and the name refers to his javelin throwing, but obviously the double-connotation was intentional. It could be a commentary on social injustice at the time; he's a talented surgeon and athlete, yet he's still only known as Spearchucker.

Anyway, you might be thinking of the movie, Spearchucker was only in the very beginning of the TV series.

Lurk explained it well. Spearchucker was cool but it wasn't accurate to have a Black Surgeon in the 50's so he faded away.

wasn't he taken out after it was discovered there were no black doctors in korea at that time?
