The 97th Annual Academy Awards

Many are upset about this, but personally I endorse it. Anything to never repeat the nonsense of Williams' namecheck Sequel noms. Zimmer already won for Part One, this is no great loss. (And raises the odds of the Challengers score sneaking in)

I'm happy for Gascon breaking barriers but gosh I wish it was happening for a movie that was actually good

I know this isn’t the TV thread, but they really need to redo these categories because it’s possible for a show to have two female or male leads. How the hell Hannah Einbinder and Kali Reis (who were the co-leads of their respective shows) are up against Allison Janney (who showed up for two episodes of hers) makes no sense to me. They need to just do away with gendered categories altogether at this point. I’m not sure how you can actually to that without cutting down the number of winners but it needs to happen, especially with the growing number of actors coming out as nonbinary.

The Indie Spirit Awards have done that for the past couple of years and expanded the category to 10 nominees and I think it's working so far but at the same time, you also are limiting the amount of winners with 10 people fighting for one award.

This has needed to be a thing for a while now. The only question is do they get grouped in with the regular acting categories or do they create an entirely new category specifically catered only to motion capture performances?

My guess is that too many in the Academy have a difficult time untangling the underlying performance from the technical aspects that bring it to the screen.

Probably the older guard types who have less experience with it. But I mean… Gollum was over 20 years ago. Let’s catch the **** up.

Hulu coming through with my Conan fix.
