Yes, in response to those whiners and *****ers who complain that there aren't enough people of colour in superhero comics, here's the answer:

The 99 is comic book published by Teshkeel Comics, featuring a team of superheroes based on Islamic culture and religion. The series is a creation of Dr. Naif Al-Mutawa, founder and C.E.O. of Teshkeel Media Group. The creative team for The 99 is composed of comic book industry veterans such as Fabian Nicieza, Dan Panosian, John McCrea and Sean Parsons – all of whom have worked at both Marvel and DC Comics.

Although the series is based in Islamic concepts, it is promoted as appealing to universal virtues, and the religion of each character is not made explicit.

Apologies if this has already been discussed, but this is a great story in terms of diversty in superhero comics!

Thing is, the book isn't considered mainstream. It's pretty Islamic themed (which I have no problem with considering that I am a Muslim) comic which may or may not appeal to normal or Muslim readers as a whole. Moreover this series was released quite sometime ago but I still don't see it on mainstream shelves. A real shame though.

Which means that I will either have to special order it, or failing that, go the mail order route-which means making a long-distance call to the Middle East to find out the prices for Canada, because the pricing info on the webpage wasn't understandable to me.

I love this concept, and would drop a DC Comics title in a heartbeat for this one-the concept rocks the house.

I swear I'm starting to question the use of the term "meh".

It's a three letter word for "I don't care." "Not interested." "Who gives a f**k?" and other apathetic phrases. It works on many levels.
