The Acolyte: Episodes 1 and 2 (Spoiler Thread)

Overall I liked the first two episodes mainly for Lee Jung-jae, Stenberg, Keen and Moss and just the overall pre-prequel setting. I'm hoping it picks up steam a bit with the next episode.

Immaculate fake beard, bro. :o
It's the receding hairline wig for me.

Like I always ask my sex partners, were those not some of the best three seconds you've ever had? :o

The dialogue goes between blah to downright bad. The set pieces feel cheaply thrown together and the make up for Jackie and Vernestra is distracting. I hope the show picks up because it has a lot of good ideas but so far they’ve been poorly executed.

I fell asleep last night just after starting the second episode. Is it better than the first?

I don’t know, ya’ll… maybe it’s just because Ahsoka, Obi-Wan, Boba Fett and about half of Mando season 3 lowered the bar so far, but I really enjoyed these two episodes. The relationship between Sol and Mae (and Osha) gave me Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon vibes, which I liked. And those characters and actors were easily the standouts for me; I loved Lee Jung-jae in Squid Game and Amandla is great in everything. I do agree that some of the dialogue is bad (that “attack me with all your strength” line really sticks out) but seriously guys… SW fans have recently been trying to revise history and pretend that the prequels didn’t have the worst dialogue on film not written by Tommy Wiseau, so I can forgive some bad lines here and there.

I was shocked to see Carrie-Ann get offed so early. I’m sure we’ll see a lot more of her in flashbacks but it’s still disappointing. Guess you need to start out with a bang though. And it’s interesting that Darth Somebody wants Mae to kill Jedi without a weapon.

Oh, and Manny Jacinto is great as always. Really enjoying his slimy bottom feeder character.

So what are the theories on the mystery Sith Lord? Eric Voss theorized that Sol could have a twin too and maybe that’s who it is. But I don’t think you can do the evil twin thing twice on the same show (or at least, you SHOULDN’T).

Obviously there are theories that it could be Plagueis or his master. If it is Plagueis though, I’m guessing they redesigned him because there’s no way that elongated head could fit into that helmet. And if so, that’s a good thing, IMO. Because Plagueis always looked ****ing stupid to me in the various designs I’ve seen. But I don’t think it’s him.

It would be kinda cool if this Sith is no one of significance and Mae ends up killing him to become the new apprentice. And if this Sith’s master is Tenebrous, then maybe Mae becomes Plagueis. That would require rewriting some lore because Plagueis is supposedly male, but what even is canon now, anyway? But I don’t think this will actually happen but it would give us the opportunity to call her Mae-guis, and that had to be worth something.

I think it's just a Jedi. I would go with the bald one, but apparently she's a book character and they probably don't want to do that with a book character. That said, everything has been really obvious so far, so who knows.

Overall, not bad .

I liked the actors and the story , at least got me through the first two episodes.

I doubt i'll be following this week to week, but as a start to a series with a mystery and unanswered questions, it's a solid start.

Qimir is the most prevalent and likely theory I've seen. Though people suspect he's actually an apprentice serving someone else. It might also be a red herring for how obvious it is.

The way he easily dodges Mae's attack, reciting the Sith code, the quote about our eyes deceiving us. His name is likely derived from "Chimaera". He's not what he seems. That last one might seem farfetched, but most of the character names have roots in things like sun, moon, earth, etc. Skin complexion matches with our mystery Sith. He also just somehow 'knows' where our Wookie Jedi master is hiding.

It adds some lovely irony to him being asked who the mystery Sith is. Plus, Mae herself has no idea either, which would allow him to hide in plain sight. The actor also mentioned his lightsaber training.

Yeah I do think there is more to him than meets the eye. He does seem to have Sith insights that Mae doesn’t and he did surprisingly handle himself against her. Not sure if he’s actually a Sith but I think there is a lot more to him than we know so far, like he could be a failed acolyte or (covertly) a rival one.

So two characters who are long lost twins just happen to have the exact same unique hairstyle even though they haven’t seen each other in years?!?

Also two twin characters played by different actresses when they were younger, for some reason came to form one single actress when they became of age. :o

Andy really hit the nail on the head with what my problems are with the show.

*Reads comments on show and sees it called boring multiple times*

Yeah, not watching it lol! Ahsoka bored me. So did much of the Star Wars D+ content. So this is yet another snoozefest?

No thank you lol
