The Addams Family (2019)

I think people in this thread need to chill out.

And before anyone says he's lost all credibility as an artist, go and check out his ART gallery at MOMA and take back those words.

And of course stop motion. It's practically begging for stop motion.

It went down the tubes with Planet of the Apes. Just been getting worse and worse as time goes by. :csad:
Well. At least now it is undeniable.

No. A gallery of art doesn't make up for being a complete hack on film.

im split because I'm very supportive of stop motion animation. that being said, yeah, when will Burton make an orginal movie again?

Burton is such a shell of his former self at this point. :(
He's almost a parody of himself. He also seems to act creepy and weird on purpose rather than actually being werid and creepy. Like Roman Polanski.

Nothing in Hollywood is original anymore, but I do agree that Burton should at least do something that isn't completely obvious based on his previous projects.

Well, to me this project sounds intriguing, i'll give it a chance and see how it's gonna go.

If there's any pre-existing movie/book/tv series that I'm perfectly fine with allowing him to get his hands on, it's The Addams Family. The fact that its going to be stop motion is just icing on the cake.

However, when (not if) he casts Depp and HBC as Gomez and Morticia, I'm going to give him a major thumbs down.

Despite not liking Planet of the Apes, Corpse Bride and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory I'm still a big fan of his. I do like his collaberations with Depp but I agree that if he casts both Depp and Carter in this...I'm done.

Most artists, especially in film and even more so in the music world tend to suck as they get older. They run out of creativity and don't have that youthful angst and drive.

I think Burton has reached that point. If he doesn't cast either of those two that will make me happy. After that, it's all about what his project after this one will be. I hope he does something different like Big Fish or Ed Wood.

He is content to be a copy/paste director at this point in his career. And I think Alice in Wonderland's success will only reinforce that even more. It's headed for somewhere in the neighborhood of $800 million worldwide, which is ridiculous.

As soon as I saw this topic I just thought "Depp will be Gomez and Helena Bonhem Carter will be Morticia."

If it turns out to be true I wish I could say I'm clever for guessing that. I'm not even the first to bring it up. Burton, you've become a cliche. :csad:

As a Tim Burton fan this news don't do nothing for me. The guy is kinda lost. Call me when you do something original again, Tim.

i dont think burton would be that unoriginal and pretty much give us another corpse bride (depp and helena)

.... or would he

I love the Addams Family. I love Tim Burton from his early days (Bettlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, and Nightmare Before Christmas). And about 9 years ago I would've been jumping at joy for this news, but now? Not so much.

I love tim burton's movies...but Burton doing an Adams family movie, will basically become a parody of himself...:csad:

Agreed on all counts. Now, I love Burton's work (he's my favorite filmmaker), I love stop-motion, and I love the Addams Family characters...But I'm not particularly excited about this. I guess there are two reasons: 1) it almost feels like Burton is TOO suited for this, like it's such a predictable and safe choice of project, and 2) Barry Sonnenfeld's two movies (especially Addams Family Values) are about as good as they can be. I have a hard time imagining a better Addams Family movie. The stop-motion approach piques my curiosity, though.

I know this it matches his style, but I really don't see a need for and Addams Family movie after the two perfect ones we got in the early nineties. Plus I'll be pissed if Depp and Carter will be the voices of Gomez and Morticia.

I would start being pissed...now.

I was excited for this until I read Unversel(can't make animated movies to save there life) and 3d.

That's exactly why I'm so disappointed with Burton. You see that incredible artwork and you just know the guy's mind is full of something beautiful, something many people don't have. Crazy ****.

Compare that to the recent Alice In Wonderland, and it's just....?

I loved Sweeney Todd though. I thought it was the beginning of his comeback.

I'm completely against this, but hey, stop motion is the bees knees. Too many people dismiss it, for shame. :csad:

yeah, i wish more of his ideas that he would puts into his artwork were put onto the big screen..

Basically all the characters in Halloweentown are like the Addams Family, except that they become aware of the fact that the **** they do freaks people out later on. The Addams are blissfully unaware that they're the "weird" ones, and the lesson that was taught from the tv series and movies was that us normies are the ones with the problems.

Predictable, yes, but I love the Aadamses and I love stop-motion.
