But the thing is, even when I think, "okay, this is a crazy satire" and am fine with the cheesy dialogue and near-offensive characterization, I'm still reminded of how the plot is, well, non-existent through 4 issues, and how the pacing of the story is as slow as Forrest Gump.as I've said before, I love All-Star, and dont get what all the hate is about. It's not in continuity with regular Batman, so just enjoy it for what it is. It's so over the top and obviously tongue in cheek that if you dont get it, I sort of feel sorry for you.
Okay, how about this. The plot - while there - sucks incredibly.
Hmm.Batman recruits a young child to help him wage his war on crime. That's a plot that sucks???
We've been through 4 issues, and little has happened, everything has been set up for some event I can't begin to predict (obviously, there'll be the whole Batman vs. JLA thing, but Black Canary's subplot is still a complete mystery to me).
It's a mystery cuz we're only 1/3 into the story. You're problem is with pacing rather than plot.Big difference.Jim Lee's delays also magnify the pacing by 100, so it seemsway much more slow than it actually is.
I mean - to use The Ultimates as an example again - with The Ultimates TONS of stuff had happened in the book by the fourth issue. It was complex, it was exciting, it was interesting, and, most importantly, it was good.
Sometimes, less is more. You can't judge something till u see the finished product. And we aint anywhere near there yet.
And don't come back saying "you just don't like ASB&R because it isn't The Ultimates" - that's not it at all. I'm always up for anything provided it's good. And, as I said in most first post, ASB&R simply is not good, IMO. In any way, shape, or form save for Jim Lee's pretty art.
Lee's art isn't that great. It's just good.He could easilly be replaced with adozen artists who would do just as good as a job.
That's not a plot, that's a premise. A premise we've seen done at least four times already.Hmm.Batman recruits a young child to help him wage his war on crime. That's a plot that sucks???
I stated that I have a problem with both the plot and the pacing. It's a mystery cuz we're only 1/3 into the story. You're problem is with pacing rather than plot.Big difference.
Bryan Hitch delayed the hell out of The Ultimates, but I never had a problem with its pacing.Jim Lee's delays also magnify the pacing by 100, so it seemsway much more slow than it actually is.
I'm not judging Frank Miller's run on ASB&R, I'm judging Frank Miller's first four issues of ASB&R. And I didn't enjoy those four issues in the slightest.Sometimes, less is more. You can't judge something till u see the finished product. And we aint anywhere near there yet.
You probably shouldn't be arguing to make me like ASB&R less.Lee's art isn't that great. It's just good.He could easilly be replaced with adozen artists who would do just as good as a job.
That's not a plot, that's a premise. A premise we've seen done at least four times already.
We've seen it a million times. We've seen it all a million times. It's not the story, but how the story is told.
I'm not judging Frank Miller's run on ASB&R, I'm judging Frank Miller's first four issues of ASB&R. And I didn't enjoy those four issues in the slightest.
To each his own.
And, I will add, 99% of the time, if I don't enjoy the first four issues of an arc or run, I won't enjoy it overall. That said, I sure do hope ASB&R ends up being the exception.
Issue #4 was a vast improvment on 1 and 2.
You probably shouldn't be arguing to make me like ASB&R less.
Hey it's no skin off my back if you like it any less.
as I've said before, I love All-Star, and dont get what all the hate is about. It's not in continuity with regular Batman, so just enjoy it for what it is. It's so over the top and obviously tongue in cheek that if you dont get it, I sort of feel sorry for you.
Oh sure, I just don't like how Miller's telling the story...for the reasons I've given already. We've seen it a million times. We've seen it all a million times. It's not the story, but how the story is told.
Yeah, I guess. Still, not all that much happened in it. They arrived at the cave, Batman was a dick to Robin, Superman, and Alfred (satire, I know), and then it was over.Issue #4 was a vast improvment on 1 and 2.
And that's fine with me. I could never want to dislike a comic.Hey it's no skin off my back if you like it any less.
as I've said before, I love All-Star, and dont get what all the hate is about. It's not in continuity with regular Batman, so just enjoy it for what it is. It's so over the top and obviously tongue in cheek that if you dont get it, I sort of feel sorry for you.
I've already addressed that issue.the pacing would seem quicker if it wasn't bi-annual, i'm sure. That Black Canary crap was a bad idea though.
the idea of silentflute killing anyone in an argument is as non-existant as this book's quality....satire or not...
At least, #2 and #3 had some pretty crazy monologues and such.
