The All Things Flash Thread. - Part 2

I’ve never liked his acting to begin with so it’s easier for me to not want to see this now.

Like Tom Cruise is a wacko Scientologist but he is still a professional on the set and makes entertaining movies so it’s easier to compartmentalize.

A super-unfortunate new Flash movie variant cover.

My dream would be for them to take what they can use (obviously, no Miller), shoot some additional stuff, and front and centre market it as Keaton's Batman 3. I'm sure they could figure out a way for him to cross into the DCEU to support Batgirl and Supergirl.

That would salvage the money at least. A solid idea!

Yeah Cruise is beloved by everyone who works with him. He might be nuts but he is an A+ person outside the Scientology stuff. Hundreds of stories out there of the gifts he gives, the hanging out with cast and being a good friend and how well he treats the crew.

Sure, but all the stuff around him in 'Going Clear' is difficult to unhear or seen. COnsidering he is by most accounts the number 2 guy in that cult. Eh, but I give him this...He sure as hell does a great job at trying when one watches one of his flicks. Top Gun Maverick deserves a best picture nom. Heh.

This is a pet peeve of mine and has been since way before Top Gun Maverick which I haven’t even seen - as long as a person keeps to themselves there's no need to be calling anyone wacko. As you say the guy is an ultimate professional and even in his bad moments such as his rant, his heart seems to be in the right place.

In no way comparable to Ezra. We'd be lucky to have Cruise in the DCEU or MCU.

The story about Nazanin Boniadi getting forced into a relationship with Cruise and the way Cruise acted behind closed doors is just so awful. Cruise might be a dedicated actor but I have no doubt that he's a terrible human being.

The more I think about it the more I think WB will issue a statement disavowing Miller, release this movie, and then donate a portion of the gross to a charity supporting abuse survivors. I feel like that’s the only way to keep this theatrical without alienating viewers.

That seems like something that could happen. While I completely disagree with you about the Heard/Depp, and Depp/Miller comparisons, that seems like a "smart" money move and a way to distance themselves from that <ahem>. Still won't see it though. I'd rather donate money directly to pediatric AIDS and the Komen Foundation.

Deadline has heard the studio has tried getting help for Miller, but the troubling headlines continue to pile up. Could you send a potential liability on a global publicity tour and have the actor anchor a huge studio franchise play?

Zaslav has several choices and he will make one of them soon. Among them: he can pull back on heavily promoting the summer 2023 film, confining it to some P&A and no publicity tour. Or he can relegate it to streaming with HBO Max and take a write down. Or lean in toward making the movie a hit and then drop Miller if he can’t straighten things out. Warner Bros did that when it dropped Johnny Depp from the Grindelwald character in the Fantastic Beasts franchise, after the actor’s well publicized unsuccessful UK lawsuit; the studio replaced Depp with Mads Mikkelsen in the family franchise.
“There is no winning in this for Warner Bros,” one studio source tells us, “This is an inherited problem for Zaslav. The hope is that the scandal will remain at a low level before the movie is released, and hope for the best to turn out.” In Zaslav’s plan to make DC an explosively successful division like Marvel under his newly structured studio, with its own new boss, the non-binary identifying Miller, we hear is simply not a part of those plans going forward in the future universe regardless if there are more allegations or not.

Okay, that's interesting.

I think that goes without saying.

There's 12 months before the film, I think what Zaslov is HOPING will happen is that everything will cool down before then, Miller issues a public statement about whats going on with them to garner some public sympathy and they can still launch this movie in theaters next year, make money and then officially fire Ezra after.

What I think will happen? Ezra's drama is going to escalate and they will end up putting it on HBO Max before year end.

Being a child predator isn't something that "goes away." So if that is the WB strategy, that ain't happening. You could maybe have hoped for that when it was just assaults, but being a child predator is the worst reputation or allegation one could have. Possibly even worse than murder cause even criminals loath child predators and as human beings, we are wired to be protective of children.

So yeah....nothing is making this go away short of firing them and refilming. At least there, while this will still have happened, you can point to action taken against them and you won't be having kids going to see their favorite superhero played by a child predator. If they are in the movie, whether it is theatrical or streaming, this is all anyone will talk about. The movie simply won't matter at that point

This is doomed. Ezra won’t offer a mea culpa. The legal troubles only intensify from here.

If Ezra is banished from future DC films, what good is putting the movie out anyway as another dead-end? Meanwhile Todd Philips & Joaquin Phoenix and Matt Reeves & Battinson are doing their things and making money/moves.

If you were Ezra now would you play ball, or sabotage the release?

I missed this story last month.

Rolling Stone - It's Not Just the Barfights. Two Musicians Also Say Ezra Miller 'Stole' Their Music
“Ezra’s behavior throughout this exchange was atrocious, belligerent, threatening, and incredibly aggressive,” says producer Oliver Ignatius
At that meetup, Ignatius says things took a dark turn after he introduced a song he wrote about a female friend who was murdered by her husband. The track, he says, was an “attempt to examine patriarchal violence with grace” but upon listening to it, Miller reacted with an “aggressive temper tantrum.”

“They were completely triggered by the song which totally freaked me out because basic feminism is a really hard line. If we don’t agree that violence by a man against a woman isn’t something worth speaking on, then we don’t agree on much,” Ignatius says. “Ezra’s behavior throughout this exchange was atrocious, belligerent, threatening, and incredibly aggressive.”

They seem to get oddly triggered by the seemingly most random stuff (see other recent stories). Or is there a pattern to be had on some things?

Deadline: Prior to the recent news about Tokata’s parents’ allegations against Miller, the actor was arrested twice in Hawaii for a dust-up at a karaoke bar in March followed by an arrest for second-degree assault at a residence a month later, for allegedly throwing a chair at a woman at a private party Miller attended, cutting her forehead. During the first incident, the Hawaii Police Department Hilo Patrol reported that Miller became “agitated” when patrons began singing “Shallow” from A Star Is Born.
Goodhousekeeping: Lady Gaga told Variety that the song doesn't just connect Ally (Gaga) and Jackson's (Cooper) romance. That's the "shallow," if you will. What's actually happening in "the deep end" is something much more profound, she says.

The Best Actress nominee sees the lyrics having special meaning, especially in light of the #MeToo movement:

"We are living in a time where there’s so much conversation about women’s voices being heard ... Men listening to those voices. And also, men not listening to those voices. Women being silenced in very public ways, like Dr. [Christine Blasey] Ford with Justice [Brett] Kavanaugh. Judge Kavanaugh being appointed is basically like telling every single woman in the country that’s been assaulted, ‘We don’t care. Or we don’t believe you.'"

And so, with "Shallow," she says the words signify a time when men and women are having an open dialogue with each other.

"That conversation is what makes the song successful and beautiful and why people cry when they hear it," Gaga said. "It’s because that man and woman connect, and they are listening to each other."
