I'm def not making any kind of judgement on the movie at this point. That'd be a little ridiculous since the thing hasn't released yet. And as seemingly inconsequential as the laundry scene may be right now, it's all we've got to go on. I'm just speculating, that's all. It's a very minor concern for me but there really isn't a whole lot else to talk about, ya know? Besides, the laundry scene is a scene that they choose for the attendees at CC to view. So, imo, that means they felt it was something positive to show, right? I don't see it as a positive, at least not at this moment...there's nothing wrong with me discussing my feelings/concerns.

Very true. They must have felt like it was at least a somewhat decent indication/example of the movie itself. So maybe it's not that undeserving of being put under a microscope.. I guess we'll all just have to wait and see!

I don't think she knows just yet I mean if you were in her shoes what would think he was doing out late at nights and coming home with bruises or just being out late at night.
I know the last thing she would think he's Spider-Man
I may have to watch again to get a clear view but maybe we'll find out in the sequel or in three if they address it, i'm hoping for the sequel
i've watched TASM so far over twenty times and I still keep finding new things

It was apparent to me that May is onto Peter and besides all the evidence/observations that she has i.e. coming home late with bruises, etc. there are 2 scenes that stand out.

1) May and Peter are in the kitchen having breakfast in the morning after the bridge scene. They are watching the news/tv and Capt Stacy issues the arrest warrant for Spidey. Peter then gets up hastily from the table and leaves with almost an angry look about him. IMO it's written all over May's face as she watches him leave--the pieces of the puzzle start coming together for her.

2) May is sitting at home watching the news coverage of the Lizard and Spidey going to Oscorp and the city evac. Then later, she watches Peter come home limping thru the door, beat to all hell. May gives Pete a big hug and says something like, "it's gonna be alright." May is comforting him instead of asking him where he was, mostly cause imo she already knows and doesn't need to say anything about it.

There really isn't any proof of him being Spider-man but like I said, May's a smart gal...she can put two and three together.

They left it open. Peter has yet to confess to anyone except Gwen about his secret. (Actual confession, not someone finding out... Connors, Capt Stacy, man in shadows). They show signs of May's "suspicion" but that's it. They could go either way with it, it's flexible as of the end of TASM.

Regardless, it's naive to say, "she knows about Peter, you can tell". It's pure speculation at this stage of the game to what she may or may not know... See what I did there?

Of course it's speculation but that's the fun part and even though they left it open, imo, I think May will eventually figure it out (if she hasn't already) even if she never tells Peter that she knows.

They didn't bluntly state the facts, so yes, they could go either way. So of course it's speculation, you are right. They COULD go with "May doesn't know anything".

For me that would be cheap, and waste of that meaningful, beautiful scene. I like to have those once in a while. Not just in-your-face blunt stuff. Deepens the experience so much.

Eh. I think Aunt May knows. Just my guess.

To go back to the humor topic, I am curious to see the balance of humor of Spidey, and the serious determination of Spidey that he has during combat.
It looks like they nailed the quippy, won't take opponent seriously type humor down, but I wouldn't want it to be all out 100% humor.
We. Shall. See.

Technically yeah it isn't explicitly stated, and could in fact be rewritten to where she doesn't know. But how things stand, I think it's a little more naive to believe she doesn't know or has no idea. At the very least, she has a pretty strong hunch. Otherwise, a couple things from that movie wouldn't really make sense or carry any weight/significance that they should.

But that goes back to the point of the new dynamic to their relationship. They may never come out and say it, but the underlying suspicions/understanding/elephant in the room is always there

From what we've seen, the quipping and Spidey-humor this time around seems to possibly be a little less a-hole and more 'frustrate the hell outa you' towards his adversaries like Nicko said. I'm hopin it's not overkill with the humor, but I think they'll know when to take themselves seriously. Like when Spidey's actually struggling in a battle and not just embarrassing a weaker opponent (aka pre-Rhino)

I highly doubt it's going to be all quips and jokes. We've seen quite a bit of dark, solemn, and even grim imagery (remember the gore-covered spectre of Captain Stacy? O_O).

For me, most of the humor in TASM and, I think, all of it I've seen so far for TASM2 works. So I'm not really concerned. I totally respect that a lot of it doesn't work for others like Vid, Repulsor, and UltimateWebHead. I mean it's not like I can strap them to a chair and make them watch the movies over and over until their views align perfectly with my own... Or can I? ;)

To be fair, I love the moment in the TASM2 teaser when Spidey pops his head into the truck window and grabs the gun from Rhino. I want to see more of that. I think the character works best when he's mischievous and taking the piss, not so much when he's dressing up in outfits, and being outright goofy, etc... which seems like territory more suitable for the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon or maybe even current Deadpool.

I'm sure there'll be a logical explanation for Spidey wearing the fire helmet. I imagine the situation being as such.

Spidey swings onto the scene of a burning building surrounded by fire trucks. He swings down next to the nearest firefighter and starts to chat with him, with something along the lines of:

Spidey: Alright, how many are there?
Firefighter: Wha-what?
Spidey: How many people are trapped inside? Come on, come on the clock is ticking.
Firefighter: We already got everyone out.
Spidey: Oh.
Firefighter: *cough*
Spidey: So, need any help putting this out?

Cut to Spidey in fire helmet helping to put out the fire.

I think what people aren't getting as to why some people don't enjoy Spidey's quips is because you have to remember Peter is a very smart kid. His quips and such should be observational and clever, some of them should fly over your head or take a second to fully click. Every line of dialogue you write should have thought put into it (not too much or you could wind up with the overly pretentious dialogue of movies like Man of Steel), dialogue should have a cinematic quality to them, such as Pulp Fiction. The conversations in that movie sound very natural, they flow very well, they're very observational, but if you think of them outside of the movie you realize that no one in the real world really has conversations as interesting as those. If you put too much thought in your dialogue, into making it sound "deep" or "complex", you run the risk of making the conversations, or individuals lines themselves, sounding too artificial or constructed, as if the writer spent all night coming up with it, while the character in the movie comes up with it on the fly. Spidey needs intelligent, cinematic, QUOTABLE dialogue.

True. Yeah I'm sure there will be a good balance. I thought the car thief scene was cool but humor was eh. I kinda just wanna see a good translation or adaptation of the humor in TSSM and USM (the comic).

I thought the car thief scene in TASM was alright, but had a flat feeling about it.

Aunt May knows that Peter is Spider-Man. This is why:

could someone explain aunt carnage to me? was before my time here. please and thank you.

edit: googled it and looks like it is referring to aunt may being listed as carnage on imdb in 2006?

and i'm guessing a large number of people bought it? man, must've been fun times.

lols.

um, just saw this on imdb trivia. it's kind of fitting seeing as we were discussing aunt carnage.

"This is the first spider-man film to feature a sex scene"

edit, also
Gwen Stacy was originally going to die at the end of the movie, but Andrew Garfield talked the writers out of it.

sigh...

You can't trust IDMB.

Especially when it comes to things such as the notes featured on the page.

Let's hope Andrew doesn't talk them out of the third one.
