so electro on the bridge killing gwen, still apples and oranges.
Fans will hang Marc Webb if this happens.

I'll even go as far to say the third movie would be dead in the water. People didn't wait 50 years for Electro or Rhino to kill Gwen Stacy on screen, they want it to be an all out battle with Green Goblin in a movie unto itself. The third and final film of the trilogy.

A mutated sort of monster would be fine, he doesn't have to be Hulkish or anything. I can't imagine Osborn putting on a prosthetic like mask (SM1 prototype was a prosthetic), because those take hours to apply, plus it would look kind of corny to make it look like a rubbery mask.
Should he have some type of purple hood/cape that he had in the first issue of Ultimate Spider-Man?

 Reminiscent of what happened to SP3 and they will make another reboot and the cycle will continue.

well people waited what is it 40 years to get mary jane and green goblin play out that scene...

you make it sound sacred and yet many accepted it after raimi's film

if the raimi films had never happened and instead of gwen in TASM it was mary jane and we heard webb wanted to do the bridge thing with green goblin with mary jane like raimi did... it would be just as big of an uproar with fans going NO IT SHOULD BE GWEN!! YOU CAN'T DO THAT IDEA WITH MARY JANE YOU JUST CAN'T

Whoa, whoa, wait a minute.... what...?

People accepted it in Raimi's film for a number of reasons that make it a different situation. 1) It was the first Spider-Man film ever. 2) Mary Jane didn't die, so she didn't take Gwen's place iconically. 3) I'm pretty sure there was an instance in the comics where Goblin tried to kill MJ in the same way he killed Gwen, and Spidey saved her.

All in all, its not the same. When you introduce Gwen, foreshadow her death with her father's words in the first film, and have a perfect opportunity to do it all right with the Green Goblin, there's no good reason to get it wrong.

you are lucky when directors decide to do it by the book

in this age when some directors feel they can do it better then the source material, which i recently heard they were gonna do with superman flyby and batman year one

think overall nothing is sacred and we should just be happy with as close as we can get it =)

As long as fans are happy with "as close as we can get," they'll never get anything better. That's a poor defense of the movie itself in this case.

Personally, I'm a little tired of this "let's save it for the sequel" crap. For this movie to actually be meaningful, you must have a strong, unique, substantial story to tell. No more filler, no more preambles. Gwen Stacy dying would make this movie as interesting as it could possibly be. It's the story of the young hero paying the price for his nerve, the nerve to defy evil gods. And sticking by his mission even despite of that. We haven't seen that yet, because, come on, the death of Capt Stacy meant nothing to him personally. He had like two talks with the guy.

But Gwen? That's where it really hurts. And I don't want to wait for it until 2016, I want a powerful Spider-Man movie NOW, because, let's face it, this franchise needs it.

Do you want to walk out of this movie thinking "Hey, that was pretty good"... or "HOLY ****, THAT BLEW ME AWAY, I'M TOTALLY SPEECHLESS BY THIS EMOTIONAL PUNCH IN THE GUT"?

If it's Electro who kills her... frankly, I've seen fans forgive worse. Many forgave the fact that Spidey's everyman nature was removed from the character by making him a bearer of his parents' scientific legacy. Meaning that the aspect of "this could happen to anyyone" was entirely disposed of. If it's Electro who kills her but Norman is behind it, it would work for me. And it would make the 3rd film (REVENGE!) an actual must-see, instead of just a "Yeah, let's see how they do this time".

Kill her.

and if it doesn't happen the way fans want it too there is no point getting the shot guns out saying how webb has ruined it, for anyone whose seen comic book movies knows there are usually changes

GG must be the one that throws Gwen off the bridge. No exceptions. It's an iconic moment not only in Spidey's run but in the whole of comics themselves. It was credited to ending an era. Change is something I welcome to a certain degree but this...this is something I will not bend on. Not in the least.

Teasing at the Goblin the entire movie sounds nice. Moments where you look to your buddy and be like, "OHHHHHH ****!"

In the same sense, having Gwen die by the hands of someone besides Goblin will definitely be a risky move in the eyes of the fans. Not sure if people made a huge fuss when Goblin dropped MJ off the bridge in SM1, but hey at least it was still the Goblin. In this case having Foxx throw her off would be an utter waste of an iconic moment in Spider-Man history.

Agreed.Even though I am not a big comic book reader fan, even I feel that if something iconic from comic book is changed then it loses the impact it had on the comics.
