The Amazing Spider-Man 2 The Amazing Spider-Man 2 General Discussion - Part 6

Eh.

They had him transform due to the formula in USM, and I really think that's the route they'll go in these films.

However, rather than him transforming into monster hulk goblin, he'll transform into his 616 appearance. Though, perhaps slightly more muscular w/ slightly more monstrous features than his traditional look.

Maybe he physically transforms into a Goblin (smaller than the Hulk Goblin) but uses a glider and pumpkin bombs still.

I just can't see this. I just don't think Sony and Marc would want to end this trilogy on such a dour note.

Yeah, they have plans for more films beyond the third, but I just still can't see them ending this set of films with her death.

TBH, I always expected her death in the 2nd, so it doesn't bother me. I'm just curious to see how it happens.

This all, of course, if the rumor is true. But it sounds believable enough.
But that itself would lead for even better movies in the future. And it would make Gwen's death even more effective for the GA and the fans.

I don't think the 2nd film is too soon at all... at least not in the last half.

I think Gwen has left already a big impact on the audience, and it's not about how many films it takes to get to know a character, it's the screen presence and story..

there's movies that have no sequels where a character dies at the end and it makes things a tear jerker. And you don't need multiple films for that to happen.

Movies can't be a giant rush or else you lose emotional connection with characters, but they are indeed a faster pace of things than the books. Basically what happens in 2 story archs of a comic, could happen all in one film.

I'd actually argue that (aside from villain stories) that majority of the Peter Parker emotional/physical journey and story of his character from Origin to Gwen's Death could and should be told within 3 films. Hell, his whole Highschool years (50 some issues) are essentially being told in 1.5 films.... since this new one is indeed suppose to have college elements. So yes... things are moving fast (not rushed) but this isn't a TV show where you can spend 4 22 episode seasons depicting high-school life. You have to get on, and keep on moving to tell a definitive story of Peter Parker/Spider-Man

imo that involves...

Origin
The Goblin Legacy
Death of Captain Stacy
The Night Gwen Stacy Died
Master Planner (or another good Doc Ock story)
The Bugle and his relationships with the co-workers there
Keep his love-life simplified to just Gwen/Mj/Black Cat
Sinister Six
The Black Suit/Symbiote Saga/Venom
Peter and MJ's Wedding
Kraven's Last Hunt
Curt Connor's/Lizard

I think most of those can all be told within 2 trilogies, easily without being rushed. Some stories work very well together if merged even.

But that being said... you can't tell all that stuff in a theatrical setting without some things being on a faster speed. But that doesn't mean the quality or the emotion has to be sacrificed either...

in my Spidey dream world i probably would have done 2 trilogies like this..

The Goblin Legacy:
-1) Origin: Tie in Sandman and/or electro, or Vulture/Rhino, simple villain/super criminal aspect. Begins dating Gwen, setting is highschool. Norman and Harry are also already introduced as supporting cast. Norman shows a fascination with Spider-man. Mysterious figure caused/hired the villains as a "master planner/crime boss", Capt Stacy is killed at movie's end.

-2) Mj is introduced as harry's gf in college, Doc Ock is introduce as the master planner, but is he really the big bad? or just another hired gun? Goblin is also introduced as a secondary "lurking in the shadows" villain, Identity is not made aware. But... by the end of the 2nd half, Goblin learns peter's identity. Spidey defeats Ock, all seems well.... he's walking to meet gwen on a date when the goblin smoke bombs him, snares him up, dragging him across the sky, dazed and confused, Peter wakes to find himself on top of a bridge. The Goblin is holding a body... it's gwen. He throws her off the bridge, peter still drugged tries to save her, but something goes wrong... and she's killed. He swears revenge on the goblin, last scene leaves the audience to believe it was actually Harry Osborn rather than Norman

3) Peter thinks Harry might be the goblin due to him acting so different, he learns harry has been also taking some sort of drug out of depression over his father only confirming his thoughts, and goes into a fit of rage on harry, only to learn it's really norman. And he's been behind everything from his parents deaths and Gwen's death, to being the big bad from Ock, and the villains in the first film. Film ends with Norman's death, and Harry swearing revenge (in rehab). MJ consoles peter at the end of the film

Symbiote Saga:
-4 ) A year or so has passed. MJ and Peter are best friends. There's hints of something more, but he's still depressed over gwens death. And he's struggling with wanting to be a hero. He's also become quite chummy with his biology professor connors, Mj begins her modeling/acting carreer and apparently has a rival.... felicia hardy. NYC is abuzz with the returning of John Jameson from space (Jonah's son). He's suppose to be landing right off the coast in the water, but something goes wrong and he crash lands (either on a bridge like the animated series or central park). Spidey saves him, but also inadvertently takes home the symbiote. Which forms to him. We've got the Black suit, and the intro of Black Cat. Harry's dealing with his drug issues, and through therapy seems to be getting over his hatred of spider-man, The Villain of this Film ends up being Lizard/Kraven in a telling of Kraven's Last hunt. Kraven arrives as a vigilante fascinated with the recent events of new york... think sort of like punisher. He want's spider-man dead.... in the process connors becomes lizard, and Kraven finds himself a real "animal" target. and decides to use lizard as bate for spider-man. Black Cat and spidey meet. She, along with the black suit sort of becomes a parallel of Harry's drug addiction for spider-man. He falls for Black Cat, and with his new powers in the suit decides to quit being peter parker (instead of quitting spider-man) this causes a rift between him an MJ, as well as Aunt May. He's fired from the bugle. Kraven is nearly killed by a symbiote enraged spidey, defeated and sent to Ravencroft (cameos by past villains). Connors is seemingly cured

5) Eddie Brock replaces peter's job at the bugle. Hobgoblin is introduced (as well as another villain (whichever of the ones not used in the first... or mysterio?) and Eddie has deduced it's none other than Harry Osborn. Betty Brant also has a new bo, ned leeds. Spidey's symbiote rage and love affair has gotten increasingly more out of control. When facing a very minor villain (shocker) he's blasted by his sonic vibrations (learning the symbiotes weakness) and nearly kills shocker. Shocker say's he's working for the new goblin in town. Peter feels confident that felicia can take care of her self (unlike gwen) and reveals his identity... she dumps him. peter is more alone than ever... and angrier than ever... When felicia is nearly killed by the hobgoblin and (other villain), peter defeats them both. Learning hobgoblin is not harry, but ned leeds. Harry is cleared of all charges. Peter realises as well what the suit has caused him to be... and get's rid of it at the films end. a now ruined eddie... receives the suit. peter makes ammends with MJ and she reveals she knows he's spider-man, film ends with them now together.

6)Part 1: Venom is the main protagonist, gunning for mj and toying with peter's phobia over gwen's death and fearing the same will happen with MJ. And after MJ has been kidnapped and Venom defeated Peter proposes to MJ.

6)Part 2: On peter and MJ's wedding day, a break out occurs..... gunning for revenge against spider-man. The Sinister Six is formed and wreak havoc through the city (it kinda combines both the Sin Six and Maximum Carnage. accumulating with their defeat and mj and peter now married.

i typed that very fast at work... so hopefully it's readable and concise.

But that itself would lead for even better movies in the future. And it would make Gwen's death even more effective for the GA and the fans.

i'd be really shocked if we get 6 movies out of this franchise... let alone any more

anyone think that there might be a "music from and inspired by" album or is that more of a Iron Man/Avengers/Transformers thing?

Maybe he physically transforms into a Goblin (smaller than the Hulk Goblin) but uses a glider and pumpkin bombs still.

i'd be ok with that... i could see him shift like lizard, into a greenish orc looking thing. no super size though. and sure as hell no flame abilities

I think this rumor is driving everyone crazy. Maybe its best to stay away from the internet for a while. lol

Its not something I'm worried about really...
I feel like Marc Webb obviously knows how important that particular death is in the comics...and what it means to the fans...I also think hes not gonna just disappoint us and **** all over that storyline...hes just gonna make it his own...She will die by the hands of the Green Goblin...its just how I feel...rumors are just rumors...

I'm not to worried about it either.... I really don't Think the Norman and Gwen Combo (or norman osborn at all) would be brought in at all if they weren't going to play out that scene. We've had Norman/goblins already... why repeat it if you're not going to get it right? Why not just use other villains?

Exactly, why would they go to all that trouble to cast an actor (and not just any actor, a pretty darn good one, a friggin' Oscar winner! ) to play Norman/GG and then not use him in the most pivotal, crucial moment. I just have a hard time believing he'll just be lying on his death bed all movie.

Marc Webb is a fan too and he's not one of those crazy, I don't give a crap about what people think type of directors, he seems like a pretty level headed guy, just can't see him doing something like this that would piss off the fans.

Sometimes I think the studio actually plants these crazy rumours just to make the fans freak out and keep us guessing, talking, keep the buzz going...I can totally see them laughing right now

I don't think we got one for TASM, so i doubt we will get one for this. It would be cool if we did. I still think "Hero" from the original Spider-Man soundtrack was great.

I want this to be featured in ASM3(Hopefully,Gwen checks out in 3rd).

Everytime I read a Spider-Man panel, I still use Christopher Daniel Barnes' voice, lol.

It's mostly him but sometimes I also read it as Tobey's voice.Maybe because I played Spiderman 2 too much.

Look at video to know why I love CDB.

I also always forget to include Scorpion for some reason.....

he'd be great to include with the spider-slayers after Gwen's death when he could be blamed for it.

god...can you imagine a spiderman series reaching 12 movies? thatd be insane haha

The Spiderman franchise wouldn't ever die if every movie is done perfectly. It just wouldn't get enough to get Spiderman movies. He isn't just cultural icon.He is a symbol of the hardships we face in our common day life.
