Gwen's death is more than "oh look, the goblin killed her." Spiderman put his love in danger, and he had to face the consequences by seeing her die (possibly in his own hands as well). So in the end, it does NOT have to be the goblin. It would just be a whole lot better if it was.

So if Electro throws her off the bridge and everything else is the same, does it REALLY matter?
Ummm... Yes...???

Yeah I said it. Get over it.

Is that article from spill.com reliable or is that just a rumor?

I doubt that's what will happen even with a remote possibility because if it happens then this franchise will go down in drain.

How would it go down the drain? Financially?

Spider-Man 3 didn't fail because it was "different from the comic books." That's a whole different story.

You have to use your powers for good Picard. I think there's still time to stop it, if it's so, but we can't do it unless you use your powers for good.

Yes it does matter, because

the death sets up GG as his arch rival and is the whole basis which the dynamic between the 2 is built

It's about as logical as echostation talking about how Black Widow and Hawkeye weren't well-developed characters because they didn't have powers.

"Oh just have any random villain toss her in a fridge off a bridge, it doesn't matter, anyone will do. So long as it's shocking and Pete gets to cry in a scene. We're not worried about building a vendetta between Spidey and his greatest villain or anything. Hell, have Mugger #3 do it!"

Agreed.

Save the death of Gwen Stacy for the third and final movie with the Green Goblin. There's no need to rush her death, building to a final and meaningful movie with part three is for the best. Spider-Man*Gwen Stacy*Green Goblin.
Otherwise the Illuminati win.
Please do not mock our greatest enemy without offering a hand to fight by our side.

Listen to you trying to sound like a victim because of your negative opinions about the movie, now that's hilarious. If anything, most people just find you annoying and repetitive. You said you were tired of the pictures, simply stop looking for them--problem solved. Don't tell me, the pics just pops up mysteriously on the inside of your eyelids, eh?

You think I'm trying to sound like a victim. Not THAT is hilarious, bud. Now stop as others have asked you.

You know, whenever I respond with "agreed" or a " " to a comment that I simply agree with, people always use that to attack me on these boards. This place is like a post-apocalyptic war zone sometimes.

Anyways, since they are building up to the Green Goblin and have introduced Gwen in this franchise, I feel like Goblin WILL be the one to kill her. This stupid little rumor really got some people stirred up.

Yeah, I agree... can't imagine anyone other than Gobby killing Gwen.

There will still be some who'll be totally with it though, and the general audience will probably not even care, but...I will certainly be ashamed if Webb did the deed with another villain like Electro.

"it doesn't matter who kills Gwen so long as she dies."

:csad:

Hearing that and/or reading it out loud...really makes me a sad panda.

Once again, its no different than the Joker killing Bruce's parents in the Tim Burton Batman film. Comic book fans were outraged, but the GA really does not care one bit.

I think it is different, because its this moment that really sets Gobby up as Spider-Man's arch enemy in the comics. It brings their emnity to a whole new level. I can't see Spidey having that level of emnity with a second-stringer villain like Electro.

People accepted the Joker thing more easily because he's Bats arch-villain, so creating hatred between them makes sense. It would be different if it had been revealed that Killer Croc or Mad Hatter or the Ventriloquist had actually killed Bruce's parents.

There would be no reason to set up the Green Goblin as Spider-Man's arch nemesis in this series unless he was appearing in the first film. The Goblin would only appear in the third movie (maybe a fourth, if there was one), so that would really be his final appearance in the franchise anyway.

Hahaha, imagine Killer Croc approaching the Wayne Family in a dark alley?

That sounds kinda like saying "there's no reason to set up the Joker as Batman's arch-nemesis if he's only appearing in TDK." And yet look at all that TDK did to set up that very relationship.

Yeah, but the Joker didn't do anything in the film that connected to the comics. It would be like Scarecrow paralyzing Barbara Gordon, then setting up the Joker.
