Highly doubt the rumor is true. Marc Webb doesn't seem like the type of guy who would kill Gwen in the first act of the movie and by someone other than Norman. Just doesn't sound like something Webb would do. That would have less of an impact on the audience than Rachel's death in The Dark Knight did.
And given that Webb managed to keep it a complete secret that B.J. Novak was a member of the cast until today, I find it hard to believe he's running such a loose ship that such major info would be spilled.
But then again, if The Dark Knight Rises has taught me anything, it is that nothing is impossible regardless of how small the chance may be. I refused to believe prior to the movie coming out that Nolan would make Bruce fake his death to go party with a hot chick in Europe and leave Gotham in the hands of a rookie cop that doesn't even have 1/10 of the skills required to be Batman, giving him no training or help whatsoever. That is a topic for a different thread though.
