I need to know what PicardSisko and A Necessary Evil thought of the movie :)

Some pretty interesting stuff from an interview with Matt Tolmach and Avi Arad.

How tied into "The Amazing Spider-Man" universe will these things be?

Tolmach: They all will fit but will still be movies unto themselves. But the possibility for crossover is absolute. That's the idea – to not just build them modularly. You have to make movies that stand alone as movies. But the clever idea is, What if you could cross the swords? So the universes have to tonally link up with each other, for sure.

Arad: Don't forget that Venom has Planet of the Symbiote. There's a lot of meat on this dark bone. And it all comes back to Spider-Man. So everything we are going to do, all the extensions, Spider-Man will always be there, the idea, even if he's off-screen, will be there.

But with the "Sinister Six" you're free of those constraints. Is it an origin story where we're going to introduce six new guys? Can you speak to that?

Tolmach: No.

Arad: That was close… Listen, you can make some assumptions here. And you cannot be right or wrong on it.

Tolmach: It's a lot of origin story. So… Yeah…

How do you snag these big actors for these smaller roles? Do you promise them that they'll have more to do later down the line?

Tolmach: No! Webb directed an episode of "The Office," so he became friends with BJ Novak. Felicity Jones we actually got a call about her being in it. People want to be in these movies. Paul Giamatti was on "Late Night" or whatever it was and said, "I want to be the Rhino." We didn't even know him.

Arad: In a way it would have been intimidating to call Paul. "Excuse me, the producers are on the phone – are you interested in playing The Rhino?"

Tolmach: It's a good lesson.

Arad: The Marvel journey was such that the best, biggest, greatest actors want to be in these franchises. It changed. When Robert Redford shows up in "Captain America," come on…

Speaking of big actors, Chris Cooper signed on for a few.

Tolmach: Chris Cooper. [laughs] That's all I'm saying.

Arad: Don't take advantage of our brain dead attitude!

Tolmach: Something is going on there, with Chris Cooper.

People expected too much of this movie IMO, and failed to realize what the tried to (and very often did) achieve with it.

I'd welcome it! :)
I enjoyed the movie wholeheartedly but I'm interested to hear their opinions since normally, they're on opposing ends

AWESOME. I take your opinion into consideration a lot and i'm glad to hear that you liked it.

Oh wow, thanks. I appreciate it. :awesome:

This seems to be the most divisive movie since MoS.

Oh definitely. I said that to myself once I got home. I was like, "This is MoS all over again. And like last time, fortunately, I was on the side that loved it.

Saw it last night, but wasn't able to get to a computer until now. I've never written a 'review' of any movie, and I probably wouldn't be good at it anyway, so for now I'm just going to say one thing. I'm going to eventually bullet point all of my thoughts, but this is what I feel would basically be the 'closing sentiments' of a typical(my) review :

"If you want an 'oscar-calibre' movie like TDK, go look somewhere else. That's not what this movie is, and that's not what it was ever trying to be. But if you want an epicly FUN, entertaining and beautiful little movie, that's not afraid to be what it is, you just hit the jackpot."

At the end of the movie, I was physically and emotionally drained.

TDK is the best movie featuring a CB character, and TASM2 is the best Superhero movie yet made, IMO

Can't wait to see it again

Guys.... you are officially making me super excited again. :awesome:

Nice! I've been following your posts leading up to the movie - I was really excited for you seeing it as I knew you'd love it. Glad that was the case!

The 'You're My Boy' scene - them feels, am I right?!

Yeah, I'd agree with that statement. I think (and that's funny talking about a superhero movie) that it's misunderstood for now by the critics mostly.

You must be psyched SM71 :) Happy that you loved it so much after having hope reading some of our reviews.

Guys.... you are officially making me super excited again. :awesome:

I'd temper that excitement if I were you because make no mistake, this is a flawed movie and this is coming from someone who absolutely loved it.

Honestly, I know people say this a lot, and I don't want to sound like a fanboy, but dude, don't listen to the critics at all. I see where they're coming from, bc this movie isn't like "Nolans films" or an "espionage thriller" but I just can't believe they were that high up on their horses

Having finally seen it, I sat and thought about some of the things people had been criticizing and complaining about, and I was almost in livid disbelief

Things like Kafka being so over the top (just one tiny quick example)? I was expecting something sooo much worse the way people were talking about it. Are there silly things in it? Absolutely, without question. But nothing, and I mean nothing (imo) that's too silly

I loved the absolute hell outa this movie dude. Top 3, if not potentially #1 of all time for me (know way of knowing yet, only time will tell). I've never cried and genuinely laughed out loud so much in one movie

I'm not saying you'll definitely love it, or should love it, or anything like that. I'm just saying put everything you've heard out of your head (critics, posters, even me right now) and just go in open and enjoy it and see what you think for yourself

I love some of the cheesy stuff, it's a Spider-Man movie, it belongs and it can be serious when it needs to, great variety of tones in there.

I agree with Tim - it's just awesome. Rhino felt a bit like the Kangaroo from Ultimate Spidey comics to be honest - I LOVE how
he just emphatically shouts 'YES!!' to Spidey's 'You want me to come over there so you can kill me?' as the music reaches a crescendo.
Simply wonderful.

This is why I have the movie as my number 1 CBM of all time. No CBM has got this reaction out of me. Time will tell (couple of years) if it stays there.
Critics are entitled to their opinion but a lot of movies they've gushed over have got an almighty 'meh' out of me.

Don't temper anything, you'll love it Perry.

So...umm... there are two conflicting sentences here, lol. I can't say that i wasn't affected by some of the negativity on the Hype and from some of the critics, but i'm extremely glad to see that some members here on the Hype, that i hold in high regard, loved the movie.

In all seriousness, this is the best post i've read all week.

Good to see we can all still enjoy it for what it is! I tell you what, I've been feeling crazy for the past week, good to see it affected people on an emotional level!

Honestly, I've never gone from laughter to freakin tears and back again in a movie before, it really was fantastic!

The 'You're My Boy' scene - them feels, am I right?!

Woah, didn't know anyone paid the slightest attention to me here, I feel special! lol :oldrazz:

But for real, I knew there was definitely a chance I would be let down and not like it, but I had a pretty strong feeling that wouldn't be the case like you said. Have you seen it, and/or what did you think?

And yeah, my god, the "You're my Boy" scene... that was actually one of the most raw, real, touching scenes I've ever seen in my life. Like you could just feel it, such true emotions that a woman in her situation would be feeling. The chick I saw it with was bawling during that, and I pretty much was too ha

Yeah, I'd agree with that statement. I think (and that's funny talking about a superhero movie) that it's misunderstood for now by the critics mostly.

I definitely maintain that this movie will be looked at completely different down the road. Imo, it's just not what people were expecting or used to

Right now in people's eyes I think it's just merely 'competing' with the other CBMs around it, which admittedly so far is just TWS... which was a traditional, solid movie

You must be psyched SM71 :) Happy that you loved it so much after having hope reading some of our reviews.

Thanks man, I really appreciate it. And like I said a few days ago, some other's posts, and yours in particular, really saved my state-of-mind for this movie. Not that it guaranteed I'd love it, but you made me open to the possibility that I could love it. So again, I have to thank you

The fact that lots of negative opinions and reviews were spread around the internet was seriously bothering me but, fortunately, the movie itself turned out to be much better than I had expected. These films make up a solid confirmation of Webb's dominance over Raimi. He is a true believer who feels the spirit of the comic books and has a vision of cohesive and expanded Spider-Man cinematic universe. That's why his movements and decisions seem considered and having a point which is something that Raimi's trilogy lacked as hell. Obviously, new movies aren't perfect, they could be definitely more polished, especially in terms of story which is interesting and engrossing but sometimes has its flaws and illogical plot points. Anyway, what truly matters is that this movie not only is superior to Raimi's but also beats in practically every aspect the first TASM. I love how it is emotionally charged with all these scenes that make you cheerful, sad or excited by special effects at the same moment. Another great feature are beautifully developed relationships. As always, there is a nice chemistry between Gwen and Peter who became my favourite CBM couple. All in all, I'm not disappointed and I'm looking forward to see the next flick and spin-offs about SS and Venom.

Sadly, the worst part of the movie are probably all villains. Rhino is showed as a stereotypical Russian (he has even soviet star on his arm, lol) and appears too comical and cartoonish. Besides, he came up at the end of the movie what felt completely out of place and needless (and ruined the previous tone for me). Electro is another psychopathic type of guy whose motivations are pathetically far-fetched. The scene when he dreams about choking Smythe for his jokes about being Spider-Man is one of the foolest and creepiest things in last two SM movies. I found it exaggerated because instead of feeling menacing and threatening it was rather ridiculous.

Absolutely  And with how much I was nervous/anxious/crying, the cheese was MUCH needed imo

The tiny bit with Rhino, no matter how small, was actually one of my favorite parts of the film. I absolutely loved it. Never in my life have I felt "I'M WATCHING A REAL-LIVE FREAKIN COMIC!" more than that scene. It was outstanding imo, and served such a beautiful purpose regarding the evolution and growth of this Peter Parker

This. 100x this. I know for a fact this wasn't the best 'movie,' but like you said, I'm all about movies that get a reaction out of me, and this got one of the biggest. And also agreed to the resounding 'meh' about most movies critic gush over
