Aw, man. I was really looking forward to your review and I was really hoping you would love it.

Now, it isn't all terrible. Spider-Man himself was great, probably the best he's been represented on screen as of 2014. I 110% love the Spidey suit too, absolutely love it. Garfield/Stone were great, of course, and Dehaan was ok as Harry. Zimmer's score is great (with some...interesting exceptions.)

Virtually everything else I disliked though.

Spider-Man is in fact the chosen one. Let that sink in for ya.
Oh believe me, it sank alright.

Completely contrary to everything the character has ever represented. So...most comic accurate adaptation ever...right?

It's great that we have two films that are essentially great long trailers for Sony's build-up of the Sinister Six. Too bad it's at the expense of a good film.

I just personally think if ironman 2 can be a fresh tomatoe then this film deserves it too.

Im not sure your stance but I felt asm2 was quite easy to follow with all the different storylines going on and how the villains came together. Sure the villains could have used more meaningful character build up but the real meat and potatoes of the film boils down to peter struggling to be both spiderman and peter parker and keeping both lives from crossing over each other.

Without doing spoilers peter wants to be with gwen and help harry and electro and be there for aunt may but being spiderman conflicts with all of those needs for peter and for me that is what mkes the movie work.

If you thought TASM2 was easy to follow then I envy you. I really need to re-watch this film again to get a better sense of what happened.

I honestly didn't find this film complicated at all. A lot is going on, but it is very generic.

I have a question on what you all think of this:

Peter's spider powers being caused by his father basically? He got the powers because of his DNA and the work Richard did on the spiders?

Rage-inducing, to be honest.

I am so, so sick of "The Chosen One" cliche. Why this movie had to do it is beyond me, and if I were Peter, I would absolutely hate my father.

Why?

I don't necessarily mean that the film was "complicated," but it felt like too much was going on all at once. Like the movie was juggling 20 different plots all at once and nothing felt fluid.

I'm actually surprised that we haven't gotten the "you're just too stupid too understand it!" defense yet. The Man of Steel faithful defaulted to that from the beginning last year.

Also, Chris Cooper was absolutely terrifying as Norman Osborn. He was so... goblin-like.

Yup. Called it. Fantastic Norman. Evil. Out of his mind. Total *****e bag. Too bad we didn't get to see more of him. I'm sure we will later on, though. I recently read some interviews that seem to confirm what Cooper said months ago.

Yeah, I get this. But I guess because I found all the plots to be pretty simple I was able to follow. I can see it being different for others in that regard.

DeHaan was awesome as Harry and really the only good part in the movie. Too bad the Goblin was completely rushed at the end.

Evil? He basically spat in Harry's face and bit the bullet...what "evil" did he do lol

Hard to explain but there was just something about being in his presence that felt "evil." Maybe it was the way he spoke, I don't know. Can't put my finger on it.

Loved the movie! Easily my favorite Spider-Man film and one of my favorite Marvel films. I didn't find it hard to follow. Andrew Garfield has done the best job of any actor besides Robert Downey Jr. and Hugh Jackman of playing a Marvel character. He is Peter Parker and Spider-Man, which Tobey Maguire never was. And Emma Stone, she is the Gwen I always wanted. I really dislike MJ so it was nice to have Gwen for at least two movies.

If Chris Cooper doesn't appear in future films, then it's downright insulting that a high-calibur actor like him was cast for one scene.

Also, his scene with DeHaan demonstrates perfectly about one of the big problems I had about the film: The movie did little showing. All they did was tell you things. All talk, and no show, if you will. In Norman and Harry's scene, they just keep talking about how their relationship is strained. I'm not seeing how their relationship is strained. Aren't movies supposed to show you things?

I also disliked that scene because it was straight-up, bashing over your head exposition.
