Evil? He basically spat in Harry's face and bit the bullet...what "evil" did he do lol

In the story itself? Plenty. Framed and had Peter's parents killed for one. But I suppose you mean in the death bed scene. Yeah, his behavior struck me as 'evil.' The very act of being a dick to his son right before he dies, not trying to resolve any of their issues, is evil to me. But maybe that's because Norman in that scene reminds me of someone I know personally that I can't stand and I'm projecting. lol

Uh. Okay. So this was pretty awful..and before the regulars get on me, I did not want to hate it. But everything I saw from pics/trailers/plot that I hated turned out to be true. My review is below.

I'm going to give it another shot to solidify my opinion....but I did not think highly of this at all. Andrew Garfield was solid, as was Emma Stone (big shock there). Dane Dehaan gave a pretty good performance as Harry Osborn..or more appropriately Norman (who BTW should've just turned into Hulk-Goblin, he looked just like him in his death bed and I would've preferred that instead lol), but unfortunately all we saw was the "dark" side of Harry, and I didn't believe him & Peter were truly childhood best friends. Once he turns into the Green Goblin (for all 45 seconds we saw of him), he was over-acting. Also HATE that once again Harry gets knocked out from something to end the fight. Wtf. -.- Max Dillion was all kinds god awful- how Jamie Foxx managed to go from Django to this is...wow. Four minutes or not, Rhino was the cheesiest villain since freakin' Bane from B&R. It's a sad day when I can say that WB's Green Lantern had better developed villains than the 5th Spider-Man film. The Action was underwhelming, the plot meanders, and virtually every idea in the film is either half-baked, or the writers must have been baked themselves when they wrote this. How someone can dislike the Raimi films, but like this is way beyond me. This takes everything Raimi's films did (sans the dancing), and just completely amplified it to the 100th degree. Garfield, Stone, and Spidey himself deserve so much better than this.

As of right now, and having had about an hour to think about this, I'd probably give it a 4/10.

Oh God.

I didn't exactly expect you to like the film, but 4/10?

Damn, I'm genuinely sorry for you. Must seriously suck as a Spidey fan to feel that way.

I just thought he was a dick to his son, Lol.

I just found him to be a little menacing, IDK. But his scene really stood out to me, and personally, I think this film's focus should have been on the two Osborns. Throw away Electro and flesh out Harry and his relationship to Norman.

SpideyK, I know you aren't being rude, but it's how I feel. I had literally zero expectations and I was still beyond underwhelmed. It's not the absolute worst CBM ever, but it's pretty damn awful.

They are too afraid of looking like the old series at times. It is why they have messed with the Green Goblin and the Osborns so much.

 I liked Electro and all. But he was NOT the main villain. The plot revolved so much more around Oscorp.

Well Oscorp is his legacy. I keep saying it but Norman is the real big bad. In fact....I think that he used Harry as a pawn to test the "Spider-Venom" on himself and to also retrieve Spiderman's blood for him.

In a nut shell, what worked in the first film worked really well. Conversely, what failed in the first film not only failed, but they amped all the failed elements up to an infinite degree. Its almost as if Webb's philosophy was, "if it failed, I'll just do it more and hope it works on a bigger level." As a result, the bad far outweighs the good. 5/10. Entertaining but thoroughly mediocre.

I honestly don't have much of a problem with Harry becoming the first Goblin. But if Norman's character doesn't lead to anything in the future then I'm going to be really, really pissed. His performance in that 3 minute scene was spectacular and I think he would be a terrific Goblin. But I have a feeling that Harry is going to be THE Goblin of this series and that's that.

BTW anyone notice that Norman's head was being scanned after his death?

I'm trying to view things from your perspective here, ANE. Do you feel sad when it comes to these films? Numb? Do the Raimi movies counter that for you? I just ask because you and I have wildly differing opinions here.

I think I mentioned this elsewhere but IDK if Marc Webb is to even blame here. I don't think I felt Webb's presence at all in this movie, where with TASM1 I got similar vibes to (500) Days of Summer. It had that nice, small "indie" thing going for it, but this movie felt like it was made by a studio while Webb filmed it for them.

I don't think he had Harry test the venom. I think he already tested it himself. Thus the claws like Harry got after taking it. But who knows. There's still mystery surrounding Norman.

While it doesn't really "upset" me in the sense that I'm losing sleep over it, it does pain to me, knowing my favorite Superhero (ties with Batman) is getting such piss poor treatment. I don't hate the first ASM, I actually own it. But I think he deserved so much more than this cluttered mess. I wish I could enjoy it, I do...but I don't. As much as I love Spider-Man 1/2/3, I admit that Raimi made mistakes, yes. But what Webb is doing for the character is about 10,000 times worse.:csad:

I feel like maybe Norman was a Goblin in the past? I don't know. Something is up with him and we'll find out in the next movie I'm guessing.

Thanks for sharing. Sounds like a terrible situation to be in. Hopefully you'll enjoy the next Spider-man series to come along. Whenever that will be.

Of course I'm not being rude - I had the impression we were on good terms? And I'm not trying to bash your opinion.

I was trying to say that it's sad to hear you so dissapointed. I'd be ****ing destroyed if I came out feeling the same way, as you, about this movie.

I had desperately hoped a while back that Norman would actually suit up as the Goblin and take down the Parkers' plane.
