If Webb listened to criticisms then TASM2 should have been an improvement no matter what. Yet, it feels like it doesn't know what movie it wants to be.

This film is better than the first film in every way

I actually liked when Aunt May was on the phone discussing being a nurse because she said, "I don't want to worry Peter!" Wasn't that a nod to how much Aunt May would worry about Peter in the original comic books? "I don't want to worry Peter--he is so fragile!"

I'm not sure I agree, mainly due to tonal inconsistencies between the two movies (1 being "dark" and "gritty" vs. 2 ramping up the comedy and light-heartedness), as well as the villains being disorganized and hard to relate to.

This film had the correct tone. The first film tried to be like the Dark Knight and that's no what the Spiderman is about. And how do you relate to villains at all?

This effort is so bad that it really does hurt. I gave it a fair chance and it feels like someone punched me in the groin. Seriously, this movie is a blow below the belt to true fans.

:down

I haven't been this stunned since I walked out of the theatre after seeing Crystal Skull. It's not just disappointment. It's embarrassment mixed with anger over butchering a great character like Spider-Man.

I don't know, for some reason a lot of the time when I look back on the movie and how filming went down,I just picture Webb filming a scene while smacking away with some bumble gum in his mouth, yelling "Cut!" then immediately saying "Done. That was great." Afterwards, continuing to smack his gum, even more obnoxiously than before.

Wha..?

Aunt May was great in this movie. Totally agree. Best scene of the movie was her talking to Peter about his parents.

So much wasted.

Might be fishing in a shallow pond there lol

I genuinely started to tear a little bit when Aunt May spoke with Peter about his parents. I love Sally Field as Aunt May (though not as much as Rosemary Harris).

I don't know why people get so caught up with the accuarcy aspect. I mean anyone can just throw some Spidey panels on screen, write a couple lame jokes, then call it a day. The difficulty is found in making it your own. To make it something recognizible while also presenting something new. Directors aren't translators.

Well I've always said that the most important thing is that everything makes sense within the context of the movie. I don't mind changes from the comic books.

It's not exactly a tone I'd expect for a Spider-Man movie, but different strokes for different folks I guess.

Relating to villains comes in many different ways. For instance, understanding their situation, or understanding why they chose to act villainous to begin with. An example of the former is Doctor Octopus from Spider-Man 2 since we see and experience Ottavius's pain from losing a loved one and having his experiment blow up in front of his face. As for the latter, Zod from Man of Steel is a great example of a villain whose actions were understandable. I didn't really associate myself with any of ASM2's villains, and I thought they were cartoon characters with little to no depth in their characters.

Meaning that he doesn't really care. He just wants to get it over with and move on.

Based on what? The guy is getting paid to direct a Spider-Man movie, so I'm sure he cares. That's not the issue here.

I understood their reasoning's to becoming a villain. Max was wierd, but Jamie as Electro was great for me, The Goblin was a bit rushed and the final scene ended too quick, but I believe the final scene will be extended with the blu ray so that's not a big deal to me.

I liked the movie, but the fights IMO were "meh". I was really disappointed with the fights, especially the Goblin fight (which people were telling me was really short, but I was hoping for something more than just a few circles around each other ending with the Goblin choking Peter...). The final Electro fight was the same, barely any actual fighting and more of a "running away" thing (only longer than the Goblin fight).

But I loved the plot and the villains as a whole (Harry was so awesome in this movie, while Electro was more of a simple badass because of his appearance and powers but lacked the same characterization as Harry).

Just got back from seeing this and while I don't have the strong negative feelings that I see some do, I can understand the sentiments. Yeah, the villains are mostly rediculous, especially RHINO, wow, and the plot just seems stuffed with things. That said, I found it to be an enjoyable film much like the first. I guess the enjoyment can mostly be attributed to Garfield and Stone, their chemistry is so great that they crackle on the screen. The fact that their relationship is probably the most engaging thing about this series is a bad sign though. I absolutely love Garfield's Parker/Spidey but the villains are not threatening or menacing enough to provide the drama. Such a shame because Garfield really embodies the character IMO.

I don't even know how to react to this movie, it was beyond inconsistent. By far the most inconsistent movie I have ever seen in my life. The film would transition between being a 10/10 and then the next scene would be a 1/10. It was a roller coaster of inconsistent quality with one scene being beyond amazing and then the next scene would be absolutely horrible.

Agreed. I felt that the 1st one did that at times, also. But this one did it on crack!

Just saw it the second time. I liked it the first, I REALLY liked it the second. I'm so happy that I was satisfied with the movie. I seem to be one of the few. :yay: Andrew Garfield just elevates the movie in every way. He IS Spider-Man.

That's exactly what one of the first Twitter reactions we got, from a writer on IGN , said. That the film had some great scenes and some terrible ones. I'd have to agree.

He certainly doesn't seem like he did considering just how questionable a lot of the takes in the movie were. He could have asked for a rewrite, could have told them to tone it down a little, but he didn't. Maybe Webb is a little self-indulgent, I don't know, but he doesn't really seem to be able to handle these films very well.

Reading through this thread I'm getting the idea that my own thoughts about the film seem to be consistent with the general reaction. I liked it, but there were a ton of problems with it. I had so much going through my mind when I got out of the theater that I had to get it out, so I shot a video. If you want to hear my thoughts on the film you can check them out here:

I just got back home from an 8:10pm 2D showing with a great sold out crowd. I will say that I absolutely LOVED this movie! Webb and Andrew NAILED Spider Man in this movie. The two scenes with the bullied kid got me a little misty eyed just because I saw myself in that kid and what spider man meant to me. Also, the humor/ wise cracks were spot on.

As for the plot, I personally didn't find it convoluted or hard to follow. Yea there are a few diffrent plot threads happening but it's all straight forward and ties into each other. However, I see how it could turn some off. And sure, some of the plots could have been trimmed or saved for the third movie but I didn't mind it being in this movie. The acting was good all around and the chemistry between Andrew and Emma is fantastic. Jamie Fox's Max Dillion/ Electro needed more character development as well as Harry as both their movtivation's need a little more explaining. Another minor complaint is that I wish the movie had a bit more action, but the scenes that are here are good.

The complaint about there being too many villians seems false to me. Rhino is only a fun cameo/ set up for Sinster Six and Green Goblin only has about 5 mins of screen time at the end the rest of the time it's just Harry. Goblin was also a set up for the Sinster Six. So Electro is the main villain.

The death of Gwen had me a little misty eyed but the Sinster Six tease at the end showing Ocks arms and vulture etc gave me goosebumps. Also, the end with the kid and spidey about to fight Rhino also gave me chills and I left the theater pumped!

I know critics and some fans didn't like this and I am probably in the minority but I give this an 8/10. My favorite Spider-Man movie to date!
