THIS IS HUGE NEWS!

Spider sense tingling! Sony has announced that SPIDER-MAN 3 will drop 6/10/16 & SPIDER MAN 4 on 5/4/18.

CULVER CITY, Calif., June 17, 2013 – With Sony Pictures Entertainment now in production in New York on The Amazing Spider-Man™ 2, slated for release on May 2, 2014, the studio is planting its flag on two future release dates for one of the most successful franchises in studio history, it was announced today by Jeff Blake, Chairman, Worldwide Marketing and Distribution for Sony Pictures. The next two films in the story of Peter Parker will be released on June 10, 2016, and on May 4, 2018, respectively.

Commenting on the announcement, Blake said, “Spider-Man is our most important, most successful, and most beloved franchise, so we’re thrilled that we are in a position to lock in these prime release dates over the next five years.”

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci & Jeff Pinkner, with a previous draft by James Vanderbilt, and based on the Marvel Comic Book by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are the producers. The executive producers are E. Bennett Walsh, Stan Lee, Alex Kurtzman, and Roberto Orci.

The Amazing Spider-Man took in over $750 million at the worldwide box office last year.

"Don't add Teresa Parker....don't add Teresa Parker...don't add Teresa Parker..."

This is great news imo, this really means Sony is really confident of what they have so far and with what TASM2 will be I guess. Count me as excited!

This is kinda breathtaking! And a very surprising step imo
I guess Sony wanted to secure those dates before some other studio could do so

This means nothing. They had plans for Raimi's series to go 6 films as well.Even Green Lantern had it's sequel in place before the film came out.The moral of the story is: Don't get ahead of yourself. If the film underperforms, they'll drop it like a bad habit.

To be fair though, those didn't have release dates set, besides Spider-Man 4.

It's a Spider-Man film, it won't underperform.

Interesting SM4 is set for May 2018. This sort of implies Avengers 3 won't be coming out at that time.

1. They didn't have dates set for future Raimi films
2. Even if one of the movies did underperform (highly unlikely) they would still put out a new movie to keep the rights

Spider-Man 3 is the highest grossing Spider-Man film of all time, so box office performance has nothing to do with why Spider-Man 4 was cancelled. Sam Raimi didn't agree with the studio, and the production became a big mess. Otherwise, we would have totally gotten Spider-Man 4-6.

Maybe the Avengers 3 would be released in July 2018

I'm...intrigued.

Make this happen, Sony!

TASM - The Lizard
TASM 2 - Electro (main) and Rhino (side)
TASM 3 - Green Goblin (main) and Chameleon (side)

Venom - Spider-Man
Venom: Lethal Protector - Carnage

TASM 4 - Scorpion (main) and Vulture (side)
TASM 5 - Doc Ock (main) and Mysterio (side)
TASM vs. The Sinister Six - The Sinister Six (Doc Ock, Electro, Rhino, Mysterio, Scorpion, and Vulture)

I hope Webb and Garfield are up to it by then. If not, just go the James Bond route and continue the story with a new cast.

But then they lose the film rights to Marvel.

But then they lose the film rights to Marvel.

And to be honest, I wouldn't want to see Marvel Studios go after Spider-Man.

It'd probably be another origin story just to make it tie-in with the MCU, and it'll be based more around the Ultimate series if anything, since a lot of MCU movies are following that.

So the Rumours of Sony shipping off Spidey goes out the window!

No, then they reboot again.
Why? It would be just 6 years after the last reboot. They'd get even more criticism than they did with the recent reboot. They're not going to do another reboot anytime soon.

I knew there wouldn't be a trilogy.
