It may be too early to start, but I think, since we will soon get a better look at how the film will look and the marketing campaign is starting to become more agressive, I decided to start the discussion of how well The Amazing Spider-man will perform in box office, considering its strong competition and challenges in attracting the audience after the disappointing Spider-man 3 and five years off-screen.

So, here, in this thread, we will talk about how much in your opinion TAS will be able to make (OW, domestically, overseas, WW), how good legs will it have and how well will it suppress other competitors (such as The Dark Knight Rises, Ice Age 4, Brave, and Ted).

In addition, I decided to start a poll of how much you predict TAS to make in the domestic market overall.

This is a BOX OFFICE thread. Take the car appearance/disappearance topic to another thread, like the general discussion thread.

According to SHH! it has made $341.2 million worldwide in 10 days. It has a good amount of time to make a lot more before TDKR comes out.

Basically has 10 days to make as much as it can before it's legs are cut clean off.
I actually think this movie will kill on Blu ray/DVD because I suspect a lot of the general audience are giving it a pass because it is coming out so close to TDKR but at home it will be a good way to pass two hours.

This isn't a movie I really felt like I HAD to watch again. I plan on giving this film a second view mostly because it is Spider-Man and I'd like to get a more final verdict on the film. But, I just didn't have that same enthusiasm I felt for SM1 or SM2 when it was over, nor even after Avengers earlier in the summer.

I might pick it up on DVD when it comes out, maybe for any deleted or behind-the-scenes stuff. and maybe I'll like it better if I can take my time with the movie and pay more attention to details.

but, I have no desire to see it again in the theater......

I can't wait for the dvd.

ASM is the perfect movie I'd like to sit back with a girlfriend and just appreciate all the small touches.

Hmm, there's a chance Sony might've overestimated its Sunday number. But we'll have to wait for the actual to know for sure.

I think $140 mil over the course of 6 days & 4th of July week isn't that bad, although if you compare it with The Avengers it may not seemed too impressive. I think what this movie needs now is great WOM and lower-than-expected drops, especially with TDKR coming in 2 weeks. This week's figure will be very telling on the kind of performance ASM will be doing for the rest of its run in the theatre.

Well I don't think you can compare this to The Avengers. This movie is the official underdog of the year. I just hope it makes enough cash to get us a nice sequel.

341m worldwide right now, looking at 250-270m depending on legs domestic, probably finishes just over 700m worldwide. Should net us a sequel.

I thought Sony already greenlighted a sequel even before ASM comes out?

Those are estimates. Sometimes the final numbers are different. And sometimes the estimates are higher than they actually are. They are projected. On Monday we get actual numbers. Sunday they make estimates and projections based off business from Friday and Saturday.
