The Amazing Spider-Man: The Game - Part 3

What kind of replay value are u looking for? I don't think theres gonna be much there. Im sure we'll have the few collectables and races, but i don't think we'll get that much out of it. Im saying 25 hours max and you'll be able to do it all and see it all.

Well in terms of replay value, I would like for it to have the same type of replay value AA or Max Payne has. After completing both of those games, I still find myself playing them, not so much for the achievements, but for the sheer fact that the gameplay is damn fun

Yeah, it's not too bad. I agree that so far, it doesn't look like it's up to the level of AC, but it seems fine to me. As many here have said, hopefully, at E3, they'll give us something we can really sink our teeth into.

They're always trying to get us footage. Why is it such a struggle for them? You don't see other developers trying so hard--they just have a product they want to show off and do so. Most of what I've seen has been okay (I especially liked the web rush footage), but I'm skeptical because of how much fuss they seem to be making about releasing so little footage. I'm thinking there's a lot of rubbish they're cutting to show us the better bits.

When Dee is saying stuff like, 'Working REALLY hard to get you guys some footage,' I'm hearing: 'We're trying our hardest to get a video of some gameplay that isn't a glitchy mess.'

If it's good, I'll say sorry to the internet with pleasure... until then, I'm very skeptical.

Yeah when they consistently seem to have 'issues' with releasing footage or whatever it makes you think that they are hiding something. I posted something on this a couple of weeks ago that if they had a high quality product that they are truly proud of, why not show it off in all it's glory. It doesn't make much sense to me that you have something great yet you aren't going to let anyone see it. There's the other side to that too. Maybe it's all about surprise. Maybe they have a game that is absolutely wonderful and they kept teasing and baiting people only to have the epic reveal at E3. I would like to say it will be the latter but unfortunately it's most likely the former.

I've been pretty excited about this game from the get-go but all this 'teasing' crap has worn me down to the point that I'm not expecting much and like you, I'm very skeptical.

That's the key right there.

OK, finally watched the video...

I expected something awful.. As in some of the worst looking stuff I've ever seen. I didn't see that.

Why were you expecting the 'worst stuff you've ever seen?' I don't think anyone was bashing the footage that harshly. The only real issues I had was the sloppy looking animations with his punches at around the 1:14 mark. Everything else in the combat looked pretty good...the roundhouse kick, the jump/webbing/kick in the back, the stealth takedowns, etc.

You are spot on there! This is exactly what I think as well!

Compare that to AA or AC. There, it looks like everything is linked in a very thoughtful way, it's almost like watching a movie. It looks like one single, long animation. Here, it looks like animation...new animation...new animation... and so on, for every hit.

Not only that but Spider-Man was way too slow in combat in that clip to me. Even Batman looks faster. Also, there's something wrong with Spidey standing and just dealing normal punches like that. It's the same problem I have with almost every Spidey game. It looks un-Spidey and boring. Sure, it was just a few seconds of combat, but it was enough I think! I don't really believe all this "Oh it's an old build" or any excuses like that. I think this is what we'll get. Sure, we have only seen very little of the combat but if those animations are any indication of what it will look like, then I will honestly just skip it.

Another reason to believe that it's the final build is that it sure looks very SD/EoT to me. Beenox seems to have this special style that screams "great ideas!! but there's something wrong with it!".

I'm sorry but I'm just very let down after reading previews that says the combat looks as great as AC's, or maybe even better, and with almost 2 years of development, and then I see this SD/EoT looking thing instead with hacky and unlinked animations.

There's E3 and I'll try to hold my hopes up but I seriously doubt that it will look as good as some of you imagine it.

I think what would work best is not necessarily to give Beenox longer dev time next go. I mean, if it's true that they've worked with it for 2 years, then there's something wrong. I mean, the graphics are great, NY looks great, the lighting looks awesome, the camera angles are perfect! The ideas are great! But they seriously need to improve on some things IMO, and that's indoor environments, combat and enemies. I think some kind of co-operation would do good.

Also, next time I don't want NY to have too many non-human enemies. With that, I mean that the story shouldn't involve virus, symbiote invasions, failed experiments, robots, ****ed up dimensions, time travelling or anything like that. It's just unimaginative to me. Next time I don't want a movie tie in game at all but something original. Have the story be more thoughtout, personal and taking use of Spidey's awesome villans without changing them too much. Have the goons be criminals. Have the main villain feel smart in a very thrilling way with a deep plot. Then we would have something.

Oh, and UltimateWebhead, I was a bit unclear with what I meant with environments. NY looks great IMO! It's the indoors levels that I think look very uninspired.

EDIT: Added some thoughts

EDIT2: With co-operation, I mean having Beenox work with another team

I think you're being too quick to judge the entire game based on what little we've seen. Yeah, I was not impressed much by those punches either but everything else is looking really good. I'm remaining hopefully skeptical, lol.

Just based on what some were saying. I thought I was going to see something nasty.

That probably has more to do with Dee Brown always being on Twitter. We have no idea how hard it is for other games to get footage out there because the devs aren't talking about it on Twitter every week

I'm sorry, did some just doubt this game after some weird attack animation after they liked the fighting animation in the playground trailer?
Watch this again, it may restore a bit of confidence

Fair point. If that is the case though, and I mean this in the nicest possible way, Dee should **** and let the game do the talking. I'm not gonna buy a game because I like the way he tweets lol.

There's a big difference between highly edited scenes for a trailer, that use tension building things like music, sound effects, and slow motion to capture your senses and uncut straightforward gameplay.

That being said, the only issue I had with that short combat sequence was the animations used when Spidey is throwing those punches or slaps or whatever the hell they are...seen at the 1:14 mark. Everything else looked great. The roundhouse kick, jumps, swinging, web rush, stealth moves, etc.

I'll put it like this, I was stoked when the first trailer displayed his combat and the use of wrestling moves, it had me amped because I felt they finally nailed the combat and gave him moves that fit him better instead of the standard "punch and kick", every subsequent trailer would also show moves that looked downright spectacular. We watch this Dee Brown interview and see the combat, totally in left field from what we previously saw. I want his combat to be fluid, I would like to see little to no breaks in his animations, it can't seriously be that hard, and I hold Captain America: Supersoldier accountable for that, the combat wasn't the most fluid, but for the budget and dev time, they made it work. Hell, I would be happy if TASM's combat was like that of Captain America.

I also don't like the fact that games like True Crime have had pretty similar runs when compared to Spidey and even fewer games, but the developers have no problem whatsoever showing gameplay footage, you pretty much know what you're getting into with Sleeping Dogs and even that game borrowed the same combat mechanics, those guys weren't afraid to show it off. To be quite honest, from all that I've seen with TASM and with the exception of the Web Rush, the rest seems like an amalgam of previous gameplay elements from the other games, not exactly a bad thing, but when you go on preaching that you've been working on a game for 2 years, I in a sense expect to be alot different from what some have gotten used to.

I totally understand how you feel, cause for the most part, I feel the same way. But let's not be too hasty here...we've only seen a very short clip of combat. I get what you're saying but let's wait til we see what comes out at E3 with regards to the combat system...I'm hopeful they'll show the combat with a bunch of upgrades installed and we'll get a better idea of how it all works. It's a shame that we've had to wait until this far along before getting gameplay footage but it is what it is and we can;t do anything about that. Let's just try and focus on the upcoming show...it's only a few days away.

I know right, funny how all the other upcoming games have more than you care to know and this one is very slim on the footage.

You guys are spot on with that combat footage, disappointing compared to what I had imagined it would be. I keep hearing mention of this 2yr development time and as I stated a couple of months ago- that could easily mean 3 people were working on it for the first year and the rest of the team jumped on after "Edge of Time" was released. It makes sense considering Beenox/Activision is scared to show anything that's not in quick cut trailer format. Also the previous poster has a good point regarding the web rush trailer and the amount of barrel rolls, it sort of confirms my beliefs of what I think this game will be.

Dee already stated that the engine used is the same one from previous games just with alot of re-written code. I think most of the dev time went toward the web rush mechanic and mostly everything else is recycled from previous games. Still looking forward to this game though.

That combat looks nothing like the button. Mashing mess that Edge of Time was

They had a lot more than 3 people working on this. Beenox has 2 different design teams. The team that made Shattered Dimensions and the team that mad Edge of Times. The SD team moved onto this game while the second team made Edge of Time.

Also they are not scared of showing full footage of the game. They showed a full demo of the game at the GDC months ago, and a full playable demo to Game Informer a couple months ago. More than likely the lack of uncut footage is due to some kind of marketing plan with the intent of saving up for a big reveal at E3.

As for combat while I admit I was not completely pleased either people need to remember what we saw in the recent video is only part of the combat. The combat as has been stated by Dee has: basic punches, counters, dodges, signiture moves, web attacks, and throws (as well as likely some kind of grab or grapple though this last one is speculation on my part). The combo doesn't look great but we can in no way really judge the entire combat system on it especially since what we have seen is also old footage.

Compare to Assassin's Creed. If we just looked at the basic attacks of the combat system it doesn't look like much. But when all the other parts are added in it becomes a fantastic combat system.

It's getting really annoying that we haven't seen any gameplay footage yet. The trailers look ok but I'm not sold yet. I want to see some decent gameplay demo before I make my mind up.

We're getting straight gameplay footage at E3 in about 4 or 5 days.

TASM will hit the floor at 5pm on Wednesday June 6th. I got this info from ign.com

We will actually likely get footage earlier. The times on ign are just when they will be covering it but the demo will be playable on the floor all through E3 so it is likely that Cam footage will hit youtube sometime on Monday.

lol. I traded in my copy of WoS towards the preorder of TASM if that tells you anything.

My WoS was gone long before TASM game went into production lol
There are times I wish I could do that and erase that mess all the way from my memory. Tried playing it again a while ago after turning the last Wolverine game off, missed Wolverine all of a sudden

Any chance any of you guys know someone who wouldn't mind buying a used PC disc of WoS?
