Gold Circle Picks Up The Arcanum
Source: Variety June 12, 2007

Gold Circle Films has picked up feature rights to Thomas Wheeler's fantasy-adventure The Arcanum out of turnaround from Miramax.

The Arcanum, Wheeler's debut novel, is set in 1919 and follows the titular secret society comprising the era's leading occult investigators -- Arthur Conan Doyle, Harry Houdini, H.P. Lovecraft and Marie Laveau -- as they battle demons descending on New York City, including a serial killer of angels.

Miramax optioned the property in 1999 preemptively along with the publishing rights, with Bobby Cohen producing and Warren Zide and Craig Perry executive producing. The novel was published in 2004 by Bantam.

Wheeler (Supernova) also wrote the screenplay.

Sounds eerily like League of Extraordinary Gentleman...I'm sorry, LXG.

Beat me to it.

LoEG was an excellent, EXCELLENT story that got chewed up by the Hollywood machine and **** on.

I want to read this book, now. Sounds great.

Harry Houdini, battling demons and supernatural entities? What an insult to the work he did in debunking that kind of BS.

Though watching H.P Lovecraft battle demons may be worth admission.
