Just saying....people walked out of green lantern early screenings singing its praises

Just saying.

I followed the early reaction from Green Lantern. Strict embargo until...what 4 days before opening day, tweets solely from fan screenings and none from actual critics. It was clear something was up, and when ACTUAL reactions came in, they were largely negative. You can't compare that to this.

Initial reactions are not a perfect science, but when it's coming from critics and bloggers, they're a decent barometer. That screenings are happening this early...that's a great sign. Early premieres are often used to create positive buzz, which requires confidence from the studio that they have a good product.

We're getting a lot of great indicators that it doesn't suck. That's really all these early reactions are good for.

yeah the green lantern tweets were strictly fan screenings. Eatly press screening tweets are a little more accurate. IM3's press screening was divisive from the get go, as was Man of Steels and TASM 2. I remember those clearly. The fan tweets though are almost always universally positive

For all of the insanely awesome action in AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON, the film still manages to give all the characters their moments .........

Yeah, a lot of these reactions are from notable sources with reputations to uphold. They aren't a bunch of random shills like with GL. Totally different scenario.

Just saying.

Yeah, those positive reactions came from reporters/interviewers who only commented on how hot Blake looked. Obviously they are not gonna say something bad about a movie they have to promote on their show.

Talk about damning with faint praise. Could you imagine all the journalists' reactions tonight being, "#AOU was good, Black Widow looked hot!!"

If AMC and Schmoes love it, then that is good news, I tend to agree with them for like 90% of movies.

I do think though if a major complaint is it's overstuffed, even from people positively viewing it, then perhaps IW might get toned down a bit, not that I ever thought they were going to throw everyone in there anyway.

Man of steel, Iron Man 3, Dark Knight rises. All films I loved (clearly) but from those early screening reactions you'd think we were getting the second coming. My point is whether these reactions are getting you more hyped or worried about the final product, I've learnt enough on this board to take them with as big a grain of salt as I can find, until someone posts a legit full on review.

I'm guilty of it myself, I can't count how many times I've walked out of the cinema thinking that what I've just watched was the greatest thing ever, only to come down a bit after logic sets in and the hype dies down.

I wouldn't worry too much yet. It doesn't suck. A lot of these people aren't die hards and probably weren't expecting a different tone. Some people will look at it and thinkit was too convoluted and lacking the first avengers flare. It's literally a sequel. Some people may just not like it. Some may see the convolution as a small damper, but nothing more. It's all subjective and the majority of reactions are positive, and the reviews probably will be too

I suggest you watch @Guardians BEFORE #AgeOfUltron. Provides background info on elements that may pop up in #Avengers :) #AvengersEvent

It reminds me of a 30 Rock episode where it flashes back to all the compliments Liz has ever had to come up with for Jenna's projects. "The lighting was amazing!" "I hear the craft services were wonderful!" :funny:

That's completely correct in regards to Green Lantern.

Tonal shifts are fine, it's whether or not the movie suffers under the weight of plot/character convolutedness...

And suddenly, CIVIL WAR and INFINITY WAR seem to be a lot more problematic... Oy.

I´m someone who liked the first Avengers, but didn´t love it (my top Marvel films are IM & TWS).
A1 was entertaining and fun, but very simple, it had in favor the fact that for the first time, part of the Avengers were coming together, but in it self the movie has terrible character development, except for the Hulk, but people loved it.

Now, I can imagine why some people say "convoluted", that´s Whedon... but if it´s darker it´s great! I´m tired of people saying "Marvel is for kids" IM, TWS are not for kids, they are darker so, if AoU works greatly to set up for CW and Dr Strange, projects I don´t expect to be fun at all, then good!

Also I´ll wait to see the movie and judge for my self :woot: but so far they seem like the movie is working well as the huge superhero movie blockbuster it was meant to be.

Everyone needs to take a chill pill and thicken their skin.

This film is going to be analysed to death after the originals success.

If the worst that critics can come up with is that it's 'dark', and 'overstuffed', whilst maintaining that it's still great.

all good with me!

Well, it's been fun following the first reactions. Sounds like we have another great ride in store, and I can't wait.

But it's Daredevil time now. Into the darkness I go...

I keep on seeing this, but how many impressions actually used the words overstuffed/convoluted.

Hrmmm..I remember the reactions to MoS and IM3 were mixed.

Anyway...so about Hawkeye, great news!

Indeed, I expected it though based on all the comments by Renner and Whedon and even RDJ.

It's surprising though why Hawkeye has been left out of so much merchandise, if he is a potential breakout.

People seems to be surprised that AOU is darker.

Isn't Phase 2 supposed to be darker?

Stark's house getting bombed. Thor's mom dies. SHIELD going down, Fury faked his death.

Darker is to be expected.

5 or 6 I've seen said stuffed, or too much going on. They weren't necessarily negative but still .

I would find them, but hell if it isn't 13 hours of DD time :mnm:

And certainly the Avengers was a beneficiary of that. It benefited from the fact that people really expected the worst with that film, just because a collaboration on that scale had never been attempted. Most assumed that it would be overstuffed. I think its balance really threw people off, so much so that they kind of forgot about the flaws.

Age of Ultron probably isn't going to get that benefit of the doubt. The Avengers has proven the ensemble can be done well, and so people are going to go over it with a fine-toothed comb more than they did with the first film. It's obviously going to be judged more harshly, and I would be absolutely shocked if it got over 90% on RT this time around. So that the reactions are so positive actually means more to me this time around, as critics are absolutely going to be more cynical about the whole thing.

But as I said, early reactions are what they are. It requires a lot of sifting through the BS. In my opinion, early indicators are solid. Could be wrong, but probably not.

I have a feeling there will be an explosion in Hawkeye merchandise now. At least I hope.
