I can't believe it's hit almost 200 million already internationally. Crazy stuff.

Can't wait for May 4th to come around!

How much money you guys think itll take in from midnight screenings?

I remember Disney announcing that they were going to continue marketing overseas well beyond release because they feel that the movie is great and has legs.

I hope they ramp it up a bit in places like England and Germany.

I'm very surprised to hear that Chris Columbus is not regarded as having done well with the HP movies. I really like them up until part 5 when David Yeats took over and then I found they took a drastic turn downhill in quality; at best being ok with HP7pt2. The first HP was a bit rough but that was because it was a universe building movie (much like IM 2) and thus it doesn't flow as smoothly. HP2 is my fav of the series.

One article in a trade said that Disney/Marvel will have marketing campaigns with its partners running at least through June. Some of them are going to run all the way up to the September DVD/Blu-Ray release.

Might Marvel try to get a limited re-release for The Avengers late in the summer season? Late August through September is a pretty dead time, so putting it back out in some IMAX locations to get repeat customers could pay off. That would be especially true if there are weak films debuting then, or if some of the late releases bomb.

Yes, I think for this film it would be very effective. THe US marketing seems to have been absolutely amazing but I think they can do more to get saturation to the levels of the very top films where even the guys in the old people's home are raving about it! :woot:

I smell even more. I'm hoping it can outgross TF3. That's about the best I can see it doing.
Hopefully the spectacle plus that extra bit of actual heart and characterization can push it past tf3

Good to see you around again Kedrell; you had been absent for a while there.

And yes I smell a lot more as well.

It has a great chance of getting no.1 comic film overseas.

SM3: $554m
TDK: $469m

How do you know the guys in old people's homes aren't raving about it? You haven't been visiting those have you? :yay:

It's definitely on pace to and it more than likely will. When you factor inflation plus the fact the foreign market has grown significantly since the years of those films. Especially China, where TDK wasn't even released for example.

Good point!

Give me a few more years lol.

Yeah, 3D also plus the weekend excluding Japan & Russia as well. Legs will tell the story and $700m+ would be nice along with $450m+ from US. I'm confident of over $1bn..$400m US & $600m overseas in any case.

Anticipation + a huge marketing campaign + a truly great movie that exceeds expectations + word of mouth + critical acclaim; is the perfect combination of factors to make this #1 in worldwide box office.

I feel like I've been gone all day, but seeing Avengers grossing $170+ its first weekend OS is incredible!

I was hopeful, but doubtful, that it could reach a billion, but I'm starting to get that tingly feeling it just might happen. Way to go, Joss and Co.! It's so satisfying after loving so much of his work for the past two decades that Joss Whedon's breaking out in the mainstream big time.

Can't argue with this!

Next weekend is the key weekend. By this time next weekend we shall be able to make much better judgements. We will see what kind of legs it has overseas. We will see how it does in the Russian and Chinese markets. And, of course, we will see how big the domestic opening weekend is!!!!!!!

I didn't realize TDK wasn't released in China. Now I'm seeing the logic behind Marvel's moves with IM3.

I don't think many directors could have handled that
amazing dialogue scene between all the Avengers on the helicarrier so well.

The possibility that The Avengers will have grossed close to $400 million after next weekend is staggering. Whoever did the marketing for this movie deserves all the money and accolades Disney can give him/her because the campaign was nearly perfect.

Remember when someone here started a thread criticizing TA's marketing and giving amateur suggestions for improving it? Turns out Disney didn't need any armchair quarterbacking from fans on this one.

Well, a good marketing campaign, apart from being smart, needs a lot of money too. You have to spend money to make money.
I haven't seen this much advertising for a movie in a very long time.

Should be closer to 500M than 400M after next weekend. :cwink:

Yeah, what I expect. $178m plus a whole week of further overseas receipts with new territories plus a massive US opening weekend.
