The Avengers The Avengers Box-Office Prediction Thread - Part 5

Well, Avengers needs another $76,267,359 to take the #3 domestic spot from TDK. Given how it's doing still, I don't think that's going to be a problem.

Since TA makes over $50 mil in its 3rd week, I think it will reach this milestone next week.

This is so getting $1.5 billion in the worldwide box office!

And can't wait for it to surpass the $500 million mark in domestic box-office.

It must be pretty good to be Kevin Feige right now.

Or Joss "They Keep canceling my shows while they stil are very good" Whedon.

Oh, absolutely, for this particular movie. But this whole thing was such an ambitious/risky project, and it was Feige's baby, at least as I understand it.

Just like on the forums, there had to be a lot of people in Hollywood who thought this would never work, let alone do what it's doing now.

Going to meetings is going to be an enjoyable experience for a while, I imagine.

Sort of like fans vs. the naysayers on this forum, but... x1,000,000 :woot:

Next weekend has a bank holiday as well so should get a boost.

I have to admit a was a little worried about this project working after all the buildup from the previous MCU movies. It was just so ambitious to stick so many of their film franchises into one movie that something was bound to make it not work, but didn't. I credit Feige, Whedon, and the cast/crew for that not happening.

Hmmm...

On one hand, i can't hardly wait for the blu-ray...

On the other hand, i want this to stay on the theatres for as long as possible...

Exactly. And as long as it IS in theatres, Avengers is the only movie I'm paying to see all summer no matter what I actually walk in to watch. That's just me.

My pipe dream prediction was $440 million domestic total and I was laughed at for suggesting it a few months back. Even I'm stunned by these numbers.

Awesome to see the film top the domestic charts for the 3rd week running. Great movie and a thoroughly deserved success.

On that a fair while back I remember someone here was worrying (whingeing) about Marvel's big plan for its connected Universe and the Avengers 'end game'. The wailing and gnashing of teeth was over the apparent concern that Marvel were over-reaching and it would all come crashing down on them.

I said at the time I'd rather applaud Marvel for having the balls to go for it than worry pointlessly that it could all go wrong.

Well, their balls have paid off big time, and good for all concerned :yay::up:

Correct me if I'm wrong but when you look young enough to be 13 don't the people still ask if you're 13 or not for a PG13 movie?

Depends on the movie. Movies that are PG-13 due to just plain action, like The Avengers or TDK, theaters rarely could care, but if the movie has graphic violence, disturbing material or strong sexual content, I've seen them be more wary of the patrons that show up without adult supervision. The last time I saw the theater owners turning away tweens without an adult, was with that Woman in Black.

MIB3 is probably going to be #1 next weekend, but I'm sure TA will hold its own. Maybe $35 million?

Next weekend has a bank holiday as well so should get a boost.

I thnk The Avengers will probably come in #2 after MIB3 next week, but the following week TA has a chance to take the crown back, if MIB3 falls sharply but TA's drop percentage is much smaller.

You think SW&TH is gonna open that low then?

Ohhhhh. Yeah, I don't see Avengers beating out MI3 or Snow White. The Huntsmen has been gaining some hype, actually due in part to the Avengers. I've had a few non-comic fans ask me "What's that new movie with Thor in it?"

You mean ignoring new releases? Every week the new film of the week should open to bigger than Avengers from now on unless it's a Battleship lol. MiB3 for sure, Snow White & Prometheus also. Avengers will soon have made $500m but that is also $500m of satiated demand against new films at zero.

After a few weeks of their releases TA could overtake some of the smaller & average films on their way down if they fall harder though. I'm sure it it will outlast all the films that have come out so far since its release at least.

Yeah, I forgot about SNATH. That movie should do great, and I hope Hemsworth will become a bigger star after that.

This does seem to be Hemsworth's breakout year. First Cabin in the Woods (which got great reviews and did decentish at the box office), then The Avengers, and Snow White & the Huntsman is coming up soon. And later in the year the Red Dawn remake will finally be releasing. I wouldn't be surprised if the promos feature Hemsworth heavily.

Glad TA did well , sorry everything else didnt .
Is this the first down weekend in awhile?
Has there been a down weekend in 2012 yet?
When was the last one ?

He has Thor as well from last year to add to his breakout success. I definitely see him being one of the biggest new stars of this decade, and rightfully so.

Hemsworth is a great actor. Thor is such a hard role to be convincing with. Beyond a lot of established actors I believe. Huntsman should give him a good wide double exposure in a short space of time. I'm sure he will be on the rise after this summer. However Snow White does he's certainly going to have at least as good a summer as Taylor Kitsch :woot:

I agree. On paper, it's a really hard role to pull off, or should be. But he makes it look easy.

Sorry, I meant to say PG-13. Regardless, 12 year old girls weren't allowed to watch the film. Nevertheless, I am sure they would let other people to watch it but that is the theaters problem.
