Whether you ever thought this film would be made, or if the MCU could actually get itself going enough to get to this point, or if you always dreamed of it, discuss it here!

When I read my first Avenger comic in the mid 80ies I hoped it would happen, then I saw Batman & Robin and hoped it would never happen, then X-men came out and I knew that Avengers couldn't be far, the I learned about the problem with the film rights spread all over the various fil studios and realized it could never happen, but when I saw Iron Man and the post credit scene, all doubts were gone!

I'd always imagined it. But I expected it to be like the Ultimates, which I wasn't too keen on. Over joyed that it's a bit of both.

My only disappointment is that we'll never see Beast in the Avengers unless marvel gets the rights back from Fox. :(

Even if they did get the rights back from Fox, the Beast shown in the X-Men movies hasn't really been the monkey version of him as much. I don't know how well he would fit in with the Avengers, unless they did that 80s version of him.

My vote goes with the 80's version. ;) I loved Kelsey Grammer as Beast in X3.

Tbh, this was a dream of mine. I could only magine it being brought from the page to film.

Its always been a dream of mine too. I'm gonna die when i see em all in action together

You know, I have to admit that I was never a huge fan of The Avengers comic growing up, but I was of most of the members' solo titles. I don't know why, but ensemble hero teams never thrilled me, whether it be Avengers, Defenders, X-Men or even the Secret Wars mini.
That being said, I wasn't expecting or particularly wanting an Avengers movie at first. After seeing how well they pulled off IM & TIH, my whole attitude changed though. Now with the additions of Thor & CA:TFA, I am now extremely hyped for this & expecting greatness!
It's a good time to be a comic fan!

I never thought an Iron Man movie would ever happen, much less an Avengers movie.

The Nick Fury cameo changed it all.

Nope, I never really thought it would happen. I'm ridiculously excited about it.

I thought an Avengers movie might happen some day, but I never thought it would actually be Marvel themselves doing it, nor did I ever expect it to have so much build-up beforehand.

I for one never imagined that Marvel would take this leap. I mean, I thought that perhaps one day we would see an Avenger team-up movie, but I have to admit I always imagined it being like X-Men, just a random, out-of-the-blue movie, with nothing leading up to it. I didn't think we'd have solo movies for all of these characters, and I didn't believe it was possible. Until 2008.

I'm just thrilled with the fact that this movie is the first of its kind where heroes from separate movie franchises are getting together for one big, superhero movie. Previously all the other movies were basically in their own, self contained universes whether by the mere fact the rights were owned by different studios and whatnot. If this movie is assembled, no pun intended, correctly this should be a real treat to watch.

Millar and Hitch's Ultimates is what convinced me Marvel was planning on something for the big screen. It read too much like a movie script for me to write it off as just another Marvel comicbook.

Whoever said that comics shouldn't have quality writing though? :woot:

I didn't mean to sound like I was dissing Marvel comics. Ultimates just seemed to stand out among Marvel's other offerings at the time.

It's not every day you see Cap kick Hulk in the balls. :cap::yay:

Started reading comics over 25 years ago and I have to say I never even dreamed that this was possible.

I'm really grateful to MARVEL studios for this.

Now that is an image I didn't need in my head. >_< No wonder Hulk's so mad all the time, I mean nothing more infuriating then guys who go for the nads all the time.

I knew that The Avengers was going to happen way back when I was a kid, eagerly awaiting each new issue every month. It was always clear to me that comic books were the closest one could get to an actual movie, with the illustrations acting as virtual storyboards for action that the reader brought to life in their mind's eye. Every time I read The Avengers, The Fantastic Four, Thor, Iron Man, Captain America, etc., I knew that they would be spectacular when translated to the big screen. It was just a matter of time.

Admittedly, there were some dark times on the road to The Avengers. Marvel's seemingly endless financial turmoil in the 80s and 90s dimmed the prospects for any of their properties to be adapted to film. When Roger Corman secured the right to the Fantastic Four, I was afraid for a time that none of Marvel's heroes were ever going to receive the treatment they deserved. I'm pleased but not at all surprised that my long-held belief that The Avengers and its members would make great movies has proven correct.

I had no problem with Cap's cheap shot since Ultimate Hulk was a...ugh...cannibal. :whatever:

Really!? :wow: I've stopped reading comics in 1995 or so when that whole Age of Apocalypse story Arc started. I'm just a tad bit out of the loop.

Yea. I have no idea what's his status now. I've stopped reading comics ever since their price started outweighing their content. :csad:

Avengers has always been my #1 comic since I started collecting back in the 70s. Back then, in the 70s and 80s, I never even dreamed about an Avengers movie or any other superhero movie, because the *very* few that were out there (Superman movies, short-lived Spidey live-action TV show, Bixby's Hulk, and Shazam!) had such laughable fx and costumes that I figured it was just simply a genre that would never translate to film. (And yes, I include Donner's Superman films in that statement. The fx were horrifically behind the times in an age when Lucas & Spielberg were absolutely revolutionizing the industry.)

Then after Burton's Batman in '89, I started having *hopes* for an Avengers movie someday, but I figured Marvel was way behind the times and fighting a losing battle against DC movies and TV....hell, they had even started the ball rolling on plans for a Justice League movie. But Marvel was mired in bankruptcy, and they sold off their film rights piecemeal to dozens of different studios, which meant that the lawyers would never let the characters share a film universe.

By the time X-Men came out, I realized that Avengers had a much greater shot. The golden age of Marvel Movies had begun, and X-Men and FF proved that ensemble pieces worked just fine 'n' dandy. As Marvel continued to launch Spidey, X-Men, Daredevil, Elektra, FF, Ghost Rider and Iron Man, with many more scheduled/rumored to be in development by 2008, I knew it was just a matter of time before Marvel turned to one of their top titles --- Avengers.

I knew, like most of you, that Avengers was inevitable since Avi announced it back in '05. The only thing that's surprised me is that it's taken 7 years to get to film.

Same here. I think there are two camps. Those of us brought up BEFORE the X-Men movie and those that came after. Before it was hard to believe we'd ever see a good, high budget non Supes/Bats film. Never even dreamed something as ambitious as The Avengers could get made.

Those who grew up with the X-Men films and the Raimi Spiderman films it probably seemed like it had to happen eventually. Before those though, it was a barren wasteland of crap with a few good movies in the whole history of the genre.
