For this to be the biggest & best Comic Cook Film, everything has to be bigger, better, and different. There are thousands of things that we fans need to discuss about the film, but lets start with the Introduction. You know that great feeling of the first look at a hero in a film. Well, were gonna need a couple of those for the film. From what they're actually doing to the camera span. Here are the pretty much confirmed characters.

Captain America

Iron Man

Thor

Hulk

Black widow

Hawkeye

Nick Fury

War Machine

I'm wondering what role War Machine will have in this. Will he be a member? Will he just pop in and help? Or will only Rhodey appear?

I also wonder if Hawkeye will be a member or just a SHIELD agent.

I think Tony, Rhodey, and General Ross should be on a military base. And in the final fight scene of the film, if the military is involved, (Tanks & things) War Machine should be there along with them.

I think Rhodey will be working for the military for the most part but Stark suggests to Fury to add him to the team.

Forget War Machine... I don't want the character to be overexposed. Let them use him selectively. I think most of the introduction stuff will be taken care of in Iron Man 2 though.

I don't mean introducing the characters period. I mean like what could they being doing when we first see them in The Avengers. Like, maybe the first time we see Iron Man in the Avengers flying through New York or something.

I don't see War Machine having a major role in any movie. I think they'll use War Machine when they need to, to be honest.

I'm hoping that War Machine is in Iron Man 2 only and from then on only Rhodey appears. Two super-suit guys on the team would be redundant and silly.

I would be very happy with the team as:

Captain America
Iron Man
Thor
Hulk
Black Widow
Hawkeye
Nick Fury

I really don't want any more than that because it will lead to character clutter.

I'd say War Machine will have a brief cameo where the Avengers are on the backfoot and looking defeated. War Machine will enter the fray and distract the enemy just long enough for the rest to get their heads together.

Cap
Iron Man
Black Widow
Nick Fury
Hank and Janet
Hawkeye
Thor.

Aesop your missing someone I'm not gonna say who:csad:
I'm assuming he'll be the object of the first Avengers film, personally... I think that's why he was such a notable absentee.

I hope hes not the only object.

Just the legitmate reason to have the team formed maybe. Until something else comes to there attention.

AAAAAAHHH! I'm messin', I didn't realize I left out the Hulk until you said something, sorry. :o

It really annoys me that Hulk might be the villain. Aside from how much it cheapens one of my favorite super-heroes, this movie deserves a real Avengers villain. Hell, why not do what Stan Lee did in the 60s to bring five random heroes together and make it a Loki plot? At least that would incorporate someone.

pretty sure hulk was the "villain" in this loki plot you speak of

War Machine would be too redundant in this movie, give the spot to Hank and Jan, the real founding Avengers.

Make it the originals + Cap please. Black Widow and Hawkeye can be Shield operatives and then full blown Avengers in the sequel. No to War Machine in the Avengers.

exactly, loki tricked the hulk, so the avengers (in fact, cap wasnt even there) had to team up and stop the hulk, after he came to, hulk joined them.

that's the avengers for you buddies, which is why i think they need a mix between 616, ultimate, and mainly movieverse. lol. whut.

Hulk was more of a tool in Loki's plot. I get too much of a vibe here that he'd be treated as the actual villain, just the out-of-control monster needing to be stopped.

I've thought about it and the best way for The Avengers to be set up would be like this:

Avengers:
Captain America
Iron Man
Thor
Hulk
Black Widow

SHIELD Operatives:
Nick Fury
Hawkeye

Cameo Allies:
War Machine
Volgstagg
Fandral
Hogan
Lady Sif

It really all depends on how epic the final battle is going to be. The actual 5 Avengers should face the main, super-powered threat. The SHIELD operatives meanwhile could face a lesser allied threat. The last 5 characters could simply join in the final battle when the situation looks dire.

I really like the idea of keeping the actual Avengers roster small. Otherwise the characters lose their individual importance and their interactions can't be explored. It would be pointless if a main character like Thor got very little screentime because they felt they had to squeeze in the Pyms; or work out a storyline for the Warriors Three.
