The problem is, there is literally no way to determine who is really in the 'know'. I'm more inclined to believe you know that both you and Marvel are saying the same thing, but there are still considerations I have to take into account. For instance, how do we know Marvel Freshman, who is in someway connected to Marvel, isn't your source.
Both my parents are journos and I myself currently work in a newsroom, so I know the way the industry works. The entertainment industry itself is so turbulent and full of erroneous getting spread around, I think it's a fairly good rule of thumb to not trust anything that is not being said by an official representative or has some sort of set photo or hard evidence to back it up. "Sources close to the production" can be anything from someone in marketing to someone in make-up or lighting.
I also don't understand why you get so indignant when people don't take what you say at face value when as a journalist, you of all people should know how important evidence actually is to back these things up. You shouldn't begrudge people for reserving judgement, when it's the over accepting enthusiasm of fans that leads to rumours in the first place.
