I'll take Prince of Egypt & Antz over anything Pixar has done with the lone exception of The Incredibles.
Thank you. Antz alone has achieved a level of greatness, that Pixar never managed to produce. Instead they brought us A Bugs Life. A borefest for everyone over the age of 5.
Nemo was a good movie, I give Pixar that. But everything else was not in the same league as most of the Dreamworks stuff (although they had a few stinkers too, Shark Tale for example)

But it wasn't my intent to start a Pixar/Dreamworks debate or even a Whedon debate, since I know I'm in the minority on the internet. (IRL it would be different though)

I... can't... what...

No, no... I know that everyone has opinions and stuff. Buffy the Vampire Slayer is, at least in my opinion, and the opinion of several pop culture writers, one of the best television series ever. If you're not familiar with Whedon's work, pick up Buffy, you can even start on season 2 or 3, when the series really becomes truly great. Angel's more uneven, but darker and more operatic in scope. Whedon really pushes his characters into psychologically dark territory too.

If you want to experience Whedon in his full glory, I'd recommend watching: Dr. Horrible, Buffy (you can start with s2), Angel, and Firefly, which is only 14 episodes. I think everything he's done is either on Netflix Instant or Hulu+. He's definitely not for everyone. For me, Whedon weaves tales filled with metaphor and allegory framed in fantastic dialogue and character development. For others, they find his writing overly cutesy and self-indulgent. I so very much don't LOL!!

As for Dreamworks vs. Pixar: both studios have had their ups and downs (Shark Tale vs. Cars 2 for me. I don't know how anyone can call Toy Story a mere "kiddie movie". That's just... wow! I love Pixar far more but I'll put How to Train Your Dragon up against Pixar's best, including Toy Story or The Incredibles.

Although UP has one of the best opening sequence of any movie, ever.

I was reading thru that trailer description again and I can't help but laugh at the idea that Iron Man will be bickering with Cap thru his helmet screens. Too funny.

That was the one little piece of the description that made the whole thing sound plausible to me. The description of the comic con footage mentioned Steve asking Tony if everything was a joke to him, and Tony replying that only funny things were. That was after Tony shocked Banner trying to get him to Hulk out. When the French tipster had both that interaction and Steve's retort (to the effect of "Is it all still a joke?") it made me feel that the tipster was on the up-and-up.

I hope that it was a legit description of the new trailer because it sounds awesome.

Just my personal opinion but Dreamworks best cartoon to date is PoE. With Pixar, it's The Incredibles. They're my two favorite cartoons(by a long shot) of the last 50 years.

Almost everything pixar has made was better than antz. :/

if only there were a simplie, convient way to judge the publics opinion on these films, some sort of popularity record with which to track ticket and dvd sales...

WAIT! that does exist! and with it we can see that the public clearly prefers pixar. pixar hasn't made a bad film yet

disclaimer: i haven't seen cars2 yet, that one might very well suck

I've watched the incredibles like 3 times in the last week. And i must say its the ONLY movie that never gets old to me. Its so good.

While I disagree(I'd only rank The Incredibles above Antz) that's probably because Antz is about as un-kiddie as big release cartoons get and I love that about it. Cutesy kiddie stuff makes me want to :barf: and Pixar has a tendancy towards that with far too many of their films for my taste. If I ever had a family and kids then I might feel differently but I didn't so I don't.

I mean, Antz has mild cussing in it(and it's not there just to be there for shock value either) and sexual innuendo and military/political/sociological themes that are virtually unheard of in these animated films. It's quite adult.

I meant to ask this last night when he was mentioned but I had to go, so sorry for the delay.
I haven't been following Joss Whedon's career as many of you did. In fact, other than some producing and writing credits, I don't know much about him. However, I have read some very passionate things towards the guy, and Marvel gave him completely freedom in writing and directing such an important project like Avengers. What's so magnificent about him? I don't mean to sound provocative at all!, I actually want to know why so many people feel optimistic about him.

the tv show firefly made me a joss whedon fan....the cast was perfectly handed, so i am confident that he will handle avengers just fine..
if u have any doubts just watch the show...it only a season long

Cloudy with a chance of meatballs is the only movie that never gets old to me

Oh ok. Let's all massage his ego then.

To each his own. Personally Wall E + Up > anything Dreamworks (although I quite liked Megamind and Over the Hedge)

I'm not familiar with Firefly at all (I don't think I have even heard of it). Why the short run?

Let's not get into a huge Whedon thing... I mean, despite his talents and abilities (particularly as a writer, I've found his approach to dialogue and character very refreshing) the main thing that EVERYONE, fans and non-fans alike, should be able to respect him for is his resolve and resilience. He's stuck around in the industry for a long time, bouncing from indy project to indy project, never seeming to be in it for the money but rather for his own creative benefit. To me, THAT is the kinda guy you would want helming an Avengers movie, someone who will be out to make the best film and represent the characters in the best way possible rather than someone who does things by the numbers and is out to make a buck.

In short, 20th Century Fox :P

Don't know how this evolved into a Pixar-Dreamworks conversation, but oh well

Yeah yeah, I had it on dvd for several weeks now, I'm trying to save a space to see it. Only watched the pilot episode, I thought it was actually good.

Well said, my friend.

in short: nothing at all. He just happend to gather a large following of fanboys who are even more annoying than the Nolanites. His best work was Buffy and that was a real dreadful series. Other series he did, like Firefly, Angel or Dollhouse and even his runs on comic series, like X-Men, were even worse.
Nevertheless, this (my) opinion is not very popular and most think that he is a teriffic writer because he wrote a kiddie move in the 90ies that made Pixar famous. (Even though Dreamworks Animation made way better movies)
Everything about this post is wrong.

j/k ( not really)

The main thing I didn't like about R_Hythlodeus's post is that is seems to be less about his opinion and more about trying to incite Whedon Fanrage : /

Ahh, I see how my post could make that impression. but believe me, it was just pure rage after a friend made me watch the whole firefly series last week. never wanted to start anything. I'm just not a big whedon fan.

on the other hand, for a few hours no one asked about the trailer anymore. :oldrazz:

Yeah, that's cool not being a Whedon fan but after making the Nolan comparison, I'm surprised you risked antagonising the Whedonites.... Those guys are crazy... They write you into a piece of amusing fan fiction, then kill you off!
