I respect Favreau. If it wasn't for him and/or the success of Iron Man, we probably wouldn't be seeing Avengers next year. Who knows.

Tom Hiddleston on Loki's evolution in The Avengers

"He and Thor literally have superhuman powers," the British actor says. "Within the Marvel Universe, Loki has the keys to the universe, and he's been down all those dark alleyways in space. He's met all the monsters and made friends with them."

Alluding to the backstory, saying that between the gap from Thor's end and The Avengers's beginning, Loki has taken a journey to the Marvel version of The Seventh Circle Of Hell and brought back secrets. "He's an all-power-being," he says smiling. "Loki's agenda, like all delusional, would-be autoratic fascists, is power, which he believes will give him self-esteem. I haven't let go of the fat that he still motivated by this terrible jealousy and spiritual desolation."

me too. plus that is a good point you bring up. The financial and critical success of IM1 could very well have been the lynch pin to green light all the other Avenger related films and find a good writer and director for this film. I do hope that Whedon has pulled it off. I think I may have a better feeling when... hmm whats that thing we are all waiting for?... oh yeah!! The next trailer!!! cmon Disney howabout an accouncement?

After seeing Tony 'finding' his dad in Ironman 2, I hope we'll get to see a nice scene with him talking to Cap about Stark senior. That could be cool to see Cap telling a captivated Tony good things about Howard.

I would imagine Cap saying something about Howard will help Tony to accept/adjust to being a team player in the end (we can see in the 1st trailer he is reluctant to to do that, and Cap's taking a pop at him for him it too).

And to think, there were some complaints about us fangirls gushing over shirtless heroes a few pages back. :cwink:

For real. Shouldn't you be off somewhere vomiting? :p

Scarlett is a beautiful woman, so I don't need a barf bag. Besides, Chris Evans' (naked) ass has taken over Tumblr today. I'm good. :awesome:

Looks like its "bash Avengers" time on the TDKR boards again. My god its getting difficult to read stuff over there. Its like they actually find it insulting that one can like MCU movies and not think they are 'mediocre' or 'cookie cutter'. jeez.

I hear you T, it makes me sad for humanity...

lol...Chris Nolan is one of the best directors out there today, but his fans are suffocatingly annoying. lol..i once said that i thought Peter Jackson was a superior director and i almost got my Internet head cut off.

Anyway, some of the posts there about the Avengers are just sad to read. I don't want to believe some of them actually think like that

Sometimes I wish we had more people to trash their movie so they can see how it feels, but then I think how after TDKR, they'll have nothing to compare to Marvel's movies because they won't have any.

That's what happens when you turn celebs into demigods.

We aren't allowed to even mildly criticize TDK or Nolan anywhere on this site. It's perfectly acceptable to slam The Avengers and/or Marvel, though, presumably because MCU fans aren't as rabid and vicious as Batfans. It used to be that people were warned not to discuss religion or politics on forums not dedicated to them, but now TDK/Nolan are added to the list. (Unless, of course, you have nothing but praise for both.)

And don't express any opinion that isn't positive as much as people who express positive opinions do. Because then, you're a troll.

I agree. It's bad enough encountering the bickering between the two factions on an unrelated thread. What makes the entire situation irritating is that in the proper thread, it is actually far worse. It has devolved from a civil discussion into non-stop complaining interspersed with streaks of trolling.

Speaking of irritants, I really wish thenews and speculation would cease being a thread for posters to evacuate their sexual impulses upon the cast members of the Avengers. There are separate threads for the respective characters/performers, and I wish the posters would honor it. Whether it is the focus on the Black Widow's derriere or the fixation on shirtless scenes with the leads, the rabidity is irritating, and immature.

I know the studios are guilty for feeding this - whether is the costume designs, closeups emphasizing the body (take for instance the current Avengers animated series: the constant closeups of the Black Widow's derriere stand out like a dead Chitauri) or the emphasis on the current ideal - Olympic Athlete - but, still, it's depressing seeing a performance marketed/embraced on the body of the actor...

Anyway...

Returning to topic, I hope that Paramount/Disney will release a slightly meatier trailer in the future. While I do not want the entire film encapsulated in 2-3 minutes (which is one of the recurring problems with the current release system,) I would not mind having the sketch of the plot finished. Aside from Loki taking up the mantle as antagonist, I feel that a few extra details about the mechanics of his campaign will help. Sure, there have been rumors, leaks, and excerpts from the D-23 expo, but I am talking an official release. It would help lasso in some of the GA and some of the premature critics of the invasion premises. By showing the distinction of the Loki's invasion, it will help dispel the terrible associations with the other invasion films (Battlefield: LA, cough, cough,) and help dissolve some of the anxiety about the film.

I am looking forward to the film. It will be the perfect way to kick off the summer, as it will be released a few days after I graduate college (yeah!) My only concern lies with the 3D conversion...I wish the studios would have paid attention to the past and acknowledged the mistake with the conversions. But, if there is one film worth acquiring a headache for - and I will be prepared, with a bottle of Excedrine on hand - it will be the Avengers.

"In Iron Man, which was an origin story, he was his own epiphany and redemption of sorts," Downey offers. "Iron Man 2 is all about not being an island, and dealing with legacy issues and making space for others. There, he was a military machine. In The Avengers, he's throwing it down with the others," Downey Jr. assures.

On facing Chris Hemsworth's Thor, Downey Jr. sums it up saying, "It's other-dimensional, and so that's the way that Tony think of this Loki-intergalactic-planetary-Beastie-Boys-son reality that happens in The Avengers. As an engineer and scientist who explores all possibilities, I don't see why he would say, 'That's not possible.'"

Tony Stark's jokey approach is to concoct nicknames for his new cohorts. "Like, he'll call Steve Rogers 'Capsicle' because he was frozen." After being asked does he have a personal nickname for himself, Downey quips, "Number one of the Call sheet".

From an interview with RDJ. Love the nickname for cap

I... can't... contain... MY EXCITEMENT!! :hrt:

Of course he's going to come up with nicknames for the Avengers. I'd be disappointed if he didn't. Blending Joss' style with RDJ's makes me a very, very happy fangirl.

WAT?!

Not to turn this whole thread into a big ol' fangirl fest, but, uh... win.

You can't take that bunch seriously, mate.

im not sure what the exact logistics of the film contract is. but i'm pretty sure they can't be as low budget as "direct to DVD" and still count either.

Afaik, they can't do direct to DVD, it does have to get a theatrical release.
However, the contract doesn't stipulate how big that release has to be.

In theory they can just show a Corman level flick to just a few theatres for a few weeks, and they are covered.

This is based on the last thing I remember reading about the deals (would be a couple of years ago now) that said the same thing. They seemed to have some informed intel on the matter, but as no-one but Marvel/Disney and Fox seem to know the deadlines it's possible they were making an educated guess rather than basing it on anything seen from the contracts.

If Fox can do that, and were nasty enough to try it, I would imagine Disney's lawyers would not take it lying down (one of the benefits of having Disney behind them now is that legal muscle)

Yes, double standards ahoy! We can't gush over hotties like Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston, but yet we have to be subjected to women's butts and boobs. Tell me where's the fairness there!
