I would think just a 30 second spot, the ad space is just so expensive. Iron Man did have a 60 second Super Bowl spot though so you never know.

It costs $3 million per 30 seconds. I have no idea what THE AVENGERS marketing budget is but I suppose they could spend $6 million on a 1 minute Superbowl spot.

sure they could, but why would they? there isn't one person in the world who would watch the superbowl that is not already aware that an avengers movie is being made and that it comes out at some point in the near future. a superbowl spot would be a waste of money.

I strongly doubt more than a hundred million Americans know there's an Avengers movie coming out.

If you compare it to last year Marvel had SB spots for Cap & Thor. With them only having 1 movie next year maybe they will spring for a 60 second spot.

Disney pays for the spots

Sorry, but I completely disagree with this. A movie BO success is based mainly on 3 things:

- Awareness
- Mass market appeal
- Hype

With quality being the strongest modifier.

The awareness for THE AVENGERS is very high but one should never stop trying to increase that awareness. Also awareness can decrease if the presence of the movie in the minds of potential viewers fades. Marketing needs to keep the movie in people's minds as a 'MUST SEE EVENT', i.e., build the hype. A prominent Superbowl spot with impressive movie scenes could go a looong way to building that hype.

Yeah, seriously? Even if one hundred million Americans are AWARE of the movie, that doesn't mean they're all hyped for it. You have to show off the goods and get people excited, it's kind of obvious really. With that mentality putting a second trailer out would be a waste of money too. What a bizarre thought.

It's worth the money. It's not just that the spot airs in front of a massive audience, but also that it's included in the conversation that following day. Radio shows, websites and whatever else use the SB ads to generate content.

Exactly!!! I didn't know that IRON MAN had a 1 minute Superbowl spot, and in fact I thought that only 30 second spots were available.

A 1 minute Superbowl spot is an ABSOLUTE must IMO!!!

I googled it again and didn't find the 60 second Iron Man spot so maybe it didn't have one. But I did find other 60 second spots for movies during the SB so it wouldn't be without precedent.

There is no Hype for Disney movies like say John Carter. Disney would not need to think long & hard at which movie should get that spot

I think the movie has potential but when i saw the reaction at my movie theater for John Carter it was pretty bad

What is your definition of Pretty Bad? I haven't seen the audience react much to anything in years. I've been at the theater and seen trailers for movies that became giant hits and giant bombs...and seen no real reaction at all to both.

Well I think it's pretty obvious that at the very least The Avengers is Disney's biggest movie coming out this year. So I don't see what else they'd pop for a superbowl spot on. So if TA doesn't get a SB spot, I don't think ANY Disney film this year will get one.

Same here. I always hear people talk about theatre reactions, but people in my theatre dont cheer or clap or anything
