This is a continuation thread, the old thread is [split]375367[/split]
Well said. It's not going to be 'Captain America and friends', Cap simply has the most unique and naturally engaging POV as a narrative anchorage point, with him both coming to terms with being displaced from time, having lost all his loved ones, and now trying to prove himself as a leader. Also his relationship with Tony is probably one of the most important things for them to establish in the first film. For later films, they can and I fully expect them to focus on other characters a little more (like the X-Men films kinda did in X2 with Ice-Man and Rogue and Storm and Nightcrawler, and should have with Cyclops).
I would say each character needs to have a certain narrative outcome from this movie. Cap needs to become the leader and adjust to this time, Tony needs to learn to work with others and learn humility (which has been a slow progress for him so far) Banner I think simply needs to stop running and come to terms with himself, maybe accept the Hulk and for Thor I would say whatever resolution can come of the Loki situation but also this movie should cement Thor's commitment and dedication towards Midgard. I don't mind if they kind of leave things hanging with Thor though, because from a character point of view, that could definitely be more interesting for Thor 2, if the movie starts with him in a character transition point or something. I would love to see Thor 2 involving some Thor/Odin conflict over his love of Midgard so if they set that up I'd be thrilled.
But regarding Cap, I think out of all the solo films, Cap's is the one with the most heartbreaking ending and it's hard to to watch that ending without desperately WANTING to know what happens next with him. Focussing on his story is perfectly natural.
It's an agonizing wait
On a brighter note (for me anyway), the UK cinema I work in just had the character banners of the Avengers delivered in yesterday. I'm telling my managers how important it is to put these badboys up as soon as possible, if only for my own enjoyment of courset:
*SIGH*This better not become Captain America and his Avenging Friends.

"Whedon also said that just because its told from the perspective of Captain America, don't expect him to be the main character. Going on to say all the characters have an equal share in the movie, and that they will have to work together to solve the problem at hand."
I love how the boots sort of have that "pirate boot" shape. Great nod to the comics.
