The Avengers The Avengers Post Screening Review & Discussion Thread (SPOILER FILLED) - Part 5

I think he was just joking. In fact I think it made the action of touching the chest more natural. People would have been wondering what he was doing without the dialogue.

I thought it was more like
Loki was telling Hawkeye he had "heart" since he had just tried to attack Loki, and failed.

I actually have a question about Loki [blackout]during the mindwashing what was the whole "You... you have heart(?)" dialogue about? I found it kind of cheesy. It seemed to be there just just to set up the gag with Iron Man...[/blackout]
Maybe I interpreted it wrongly but I thought he was just saying it like [BLACKOUT]You have spirit..I could use you. No joke intended or set up in other words.

So....
I watched Avengers Assemble today, Me, the other half and the kids (aged 14, 12 and 9)
Now, before I start I have to say that Avengers is a film i've been really excited about. I love the whole build up to this movie, I love how the seperate Marvel movies have all been leading up to this movie, the amount i've been looking forward to this film made it somewhat difficult for it to live up to my admittedly high expectations.

So....
Avengers Assemble.
one word.
FANTASTIC.
One of the best (if not THE best) superhero movies I have ever seen.
The big surprise for me was Hulk.
I hated Ang Lees Hulk movie. Hated it with a passion.
I loved the Ed Norton Hulk movie but was disapointed by the CGI and how hulk physically appeared on screen.
Avengers got Hulk right. Thank god.
He looked great, he moved great... He smashed stuff. Finally Hulk has got a movie that has done him justice.

The Avengers has the perfect blend of action and humour, each character had a fair share of witty lines throughout the movie, Avengers was not as Iron Man heavy as I feared it would be in short Avengers was pretty near perfect.
I love Nolans Bat movies but seriously TDKR has got some serious work to do entertain as much as Avengers has.

Another point to make, we went to see Avengers at 1pm on A saturday afternoon. I've seen many movies at that time of day but i've not known a cinema to be pretty much filled to capacity at that time of day before.

Avengers is making money and rightly so.. Bring on the sequel!

did kids love it as much as you?

what did they think of THAT hulk scene?

Kids LOVED the film, and as we walked out and we were talking about favourite bits THAT scene was the one they all raved about.

I have been looking forward to this movie for about 6 years (when rumors circulated but Iron Man wasn't even out yet). I'm a big Marvel fan, and I actually read comics. I like most of the Marvel Stuidos movies, but don't love them. It takes a lot to impress me, whether it's movies or anything else. I'm really a kind of "it was okay" sorta guy. With that said, I'm fair. I judge things for what they are, not what they should be.

Having seen the movie twice, and paid attention to a lot of details, here is my take on things:

I think it's pretty clear that Loki affected Banner and the rest of the group mentally, not creating emotions but magnifying what was already there. This is clear based on the focus on the glowing staff in the vertical rotating shot which flips the perspective upside down. Their proximity to the staff essentially escalated the situation from a discussion to a hostile argument. The whole concept was for Loki to buy time, turn them against each other, and create an unstable Hulk. Which he did. He didn't create the distrust or resentment within them, he simply brought it to a boil.

His comment about "You have heart" to Hawkeye could be taken as a pun, but I didn't take it that way. I assumed he was referring to the inherent skill he could sense within him, which (on top of his SHIELD knowledge) is why he chose him to lead his operations.

To those saying they don't buy Coulson's death unifying the team...why not? Thor considered him a friend and saw him die (besides already being furious with Loki). Cap didn't know him well, but their few exchanges made it clear to him that Coulson idolized him. Tony always gave the guy a hard time, but I feel it's clear he respected him and maybe he felt guilty for always acting like an ass to him (look at how he deals with Coulson's death, he acts angry towards Coulson for being stupid and not waiting for back-up). Widow and Hawkeye were presumably friends with him, and worked alongside him. The trading card ruse that Fury played on Cap and Tony pulled on their heartstrings and "nudged" them into doing what had to be done. There is nothing hard to understand about how the team gets together in the end. Tony and Cap were the "leaders" of the group in different capacities, and Fury got both of them on board.

Overall, I felt the movie was really good. Not the most amazing experience of my life, but a great comic movie. It started off really slow for me, but it picks up around the halfway mark and doesn't stop entertaining from there. I enjoyed it more on the second viewing, and I feel the action and dialogue were well done throughout. It was nice that everyone got to shine, but they each got their asses kicked at points too. I would've liked to have seen just a bit more badassery from Cap and Thor though. They really illustrated just how mortal Cap is. Stressing his leadership qualities was great, but he did seem out of his league at times (moreso than Widow/Hawkeye who do impressive feats while not being quite as endowed). Thor displayed great power and was never in danger of losing any fights, but he didn't dominate them either. I echo the sentiment that his fight with Hulk should've been a tad longer, among other things, but it's not a major complaint by any means. The last 30 minutes effectively excite and appease the inner fanboy more than most comic book movies rolled together. I'm also a big Joss Whedon fan so it was good to see tidbits of his trademark writing in there at points, though I don't feel it was an overly "Whedon-esque" experience.

The last thing I want to touch on is how everyone is sharing opinions on comic movies. I don't want to bloat this post anymore than I already have, and it's good to have opinions, but it definitely seems like people don't acknowledge the flaws in movies they like (example: TDK was excellent but Two-Face was the weakest point of the film by far). Every movie has problems, no shame in admitting that. I thought Thor was cool, but even I have a hard time explaining how they expect us to believe he shed all of his arrogance and fell in love with a human in a day or two. Just saying.

The Avengers easily fits into a top 10 list of best superhero movies, but I'm not sure where. It's up there with TDK, Iron Man, X-men 2, Spider-man 1/2, and Blade 1/2. I hope Amazing Spider-man and Dark Knight Rises are just as awesome.

I can vouch for this movie being up there with the best movies in history!
The audiance was clapping in my theather and Iv never EVER seen anybody clap their hands here in sweden before and Iv been to alot of theathers and Iv seen lots of movies

Question

Am I the only one who noticed than Thanos looked RED when he first turns round, then once his face fully turned to the side he looks blue

What colour did he look to everyone else?

YES - He looked VERY red to me. Maybe it was the 3D glasses. But my first thought was "Red Skull...???":wow:

I was taken aback by his purpleness.
As was I. For some reason I remembered the character being blue, so I was put off by that, then I googled and realized his face is meant to be purple so I was like "Oh, okay."

Ah gotcha, that makes sense.

I watched all 5 films back to back the past few days.

Then I remembered the trailer, and wasn't sure who the aliens were, so I decided to watch Ultimate Avengers (animated movie) on DVD. When the invaders were
the chitauri
, I thought that they might be the invaders in the live action film. Turns out that they were lol.

Watched it in IMAX today.

I've seen all the major big production comic book/superhero movies released, and I can honestly say that The Avengers ranks above them all, definitely is worth the hype.

DEFINITELY gonna watch it again, and The Hulk was done right. Loads of action, and fun. Steals the show

Everyone got PLENTY of screen time.

Good to see
Captain America lead
, as he should be.

And
Thanos
in the mid-credit scene, oh my goodness! Sequel is definitely on the cards

Also
RIP Agent Coulson

Is it possible he is a different colour on different screenings? lol

I vividly remember when he first starts to turn he looks red, but once his head is fully sideways, he looks blue

Could it be the light reflecting from some source? Blue and red do make purple afterall? :oldrazz:

Plus the hand is definitely small and human looking

What colour eyes did everyone see. I definitely saw blue all 3 times, but are they not supposed to be red?

Wonder what colour his feet are?

good news to all who seen avengers

the infamous hulk scene is on youtube
search

hulk and the puny god

no matter how many times you see it, still as funny as ever

I think I missed it.:csad:

He was purple with blue eyes.. I found the eyes a bit strange since they are supposed to be black but they got everything else so perfect that I didnt care

For those interested in a scoop on the leak, TONS more sites sprung up with the film - MARVEL has started taking them down. It looks like a battle though on screening sites cause more keep appearing everywhere. I think the good version is primarily gone, only the one with chinese subtitles seems to still have a presence.

Do you know what I might do for a laugh next time I go and see it?

Act like an over excited fanboy during the mid credits sequence, like really over the top.
So when the other says "to challenge them is to court"........I will say loudly a few times NO NO NO WAY.....as if I cannot believe what is about to happen............Then when he says Death.........go NO FCKING WAY NO ****ING WAY SERIOUS?..........Then finally when Thanos stands and turns around.........completely lose the plot and start having a visible nerdgasm in middle of the cinema..........repeat THANOS THANOS over again, with mock shock

:woot:

It would work best in a quiet crowd.....everyone would be like, what the ****?

Yes, YES. Do that.

Coming back from seeing it a second time I gotta say that the tracking shot is probably the best thing I've ever seen from a comic book movie.

Chris Nolan pay attention ! This is how you bring a comic book to life. :D

I'm loving all the stuff surfacing about Bruce and Tony's relationship in the film, and I had a quick(spoilery) question:
Is this image part of the film, or just a behind the scenes shot? I.e. Do the characters actually sling their arms over each others shoulders on camera, or is this just the actors out of character?
Thanks!

It's becoming really painful to look at anything Avengers. I was that mind blown. I have to see it again...and again...and again. But on the bright side, I got my letter printed in Avengers Assemble CE :D
