So, i've heard some complaints about the lack of " a cinematic look and feel" from some insiders that have taken a peek at early screenings and it hit me.
This is exactly what i've been feeling all along whenever i watched an Avengers trailer. I happen to be in the high-end Home Theater business and have been exposed to incredible video quality my whole life! I sold 42" plasmas when they cost $15k, projection systems from Runco at $50k, etc., which essentially means i know a bit about video quality. This is my main issue, The Avengers trailers do have, IMHO, a video/sopa opera look to them that to me, would be seriously detrimental to the overall realism and suspension of disbelief needed for the movie to go beyond expectations. To be seen as more than just a fan boy action flick, these are issues that matter, as evidenced by the ultra realism and subsequent success of the Dark Knight movies! The "cinematography" is a little to Disneyish for the taste of a broader audience and this would be necessary for the film to succeed like we fans want it to! Some fans simply don't get it when it comes to this kind of stuff, but a a Serenity look is the last thing i would have wanted for this movie. Take for instance the horrible movies of Twilight. They suck to me, but you have to give them credit for the chosen look of the movies, which allows for an extra 20-30% of income, by not focusing on gory crap, and instead, giving them a natural feel. This is probably the reason lots of mature women like them and acompany their daughters. Marvel seems to have been able to go this way with the Iron Man and Thor movies, which focused a lot on realism and plausibility and that included the look and feel of the movies, plus very good character development, (which is another thing altogether). I am crossing my fingers hard, that this is just the waythe initial trailers look. I think there's hope, when i see the Iron Man in the very violent and relistic scene, in which he's looking up and takes off to battle some flying things. And, i don't think Disney is to blame, The Pirates Of The Caribbean movies have great cinematography and costume development was taken to the max. Most certainly part of the reason for the major success. So, I'm going to disagree with the look for now and really hope that it's just the trailers. It will spoil the movie for me if it lacks cinematic view.
