Wow. Grant was far better than I imagined...

Bring on the Flash!

So the latest rumour for the Flash show casting is that the West family are black. That doesn't bother me but I sure there will be race/pc moaning from some if its true.

I'm confused as to why this would both people???

It doesn't really bother me. I just hope its not another Oliver/Laurel situation where there is absolutely no chemistry, the woman can't act, and the show tries to force them as the destined true pairing we are supposed to want and actively root for.

As long as whoever playing Iris can actually act and has chemistry with Grant, I don't really care what race she is. As for her race effecting the ethnicity of Wally and Bart... I really don't see the show including them anyway.

I must have missed it, but who was supposed to be Cyrus Gold/Grundy? That bald guy with the mask?

^ Solomon Grundy, he is a zombie in the comics

I hope that's what he'll eventually turn into on the show.

In all of the hubbub over the race change, I missed that is also has them changing Iris from a reporter to a psychology student. Dumb pointless change is dumb and pointless. The same level of dumb and pointless as changing Star City to Starling City and calling Dinah Laurel Lance by her middle name instead of her first name and making her a lawyer.

I liked Iris as a reporter, dammit. Still, I trust the writers. They've made Arrow awesome, I trust they'll make Flash awesome as well.

No one cares.

He was ok, just too much like Garfield's Spiderman. I don't know much about flash though.

Making Wally black sounds like a pointless change just to add diversity. Making Iris a psychology student also sounds pointless and dumb.

Seriously, who the **** cares this much about her profession?

Some people are convinced that the only reason anyone would ever do a race change is destructive ignorant politics, thus every such change is "annoying" and "forced" and bad for 'Murica.

For me, one minor thing I have liked about Arrow a lot is that they do include a lot of great black characters, and they do it very casually, without drawing any attention to it. It seemed like every character had a black best friend at one point, even Diggle, lol.

Personally... I'm just annoyed we have the whole cop father angle again. That seems like a really bad idea. But it's kind of expected if they're going to ape Spider-Man as hard as Green Arrow apes Batman. This is just Gwen and Captain Stacy by another name, I guess.

I think the profession change is just part of updating the character. Reporters were at the heart of the story back in the 50s, now, reporters are kind of windowdressing reading lines. A psychologist with a detective dad and a superhero guy friend is probably going to do some really fun Forensic Psychology, putting together Profiles of supervillains. That could be pretty awesome... much better than her sitting behind a desk pointlessly or doing extinct investigative reporting while we all pretend its not 2014.

Wouldn't it be better to have a wider search for the right actress, and settle on one who fits the role completely regardless of their skin colour, rather than *only* look at one particular race? Seems a little odd to limit yourself like that, but I have no problem with the change. A black Wally would be an interesting change.

Like with the Human Torch in the new Fantastic Four - while it isn't a popular decision with hardcore fans, I doubt they decided from the get-go to make the Human Torch black, rather they cast a black actor after they decided he best fit the role.

Maybe I'm missing something here with this rumor, but are they actively seeking a black actress for Iris? As in an explicit call for that? If that's true, then that is kind of dumb. I don't care what race it is, calling for a specific race for a role like that is silly. I understand if they want a certain ethnicity for a part where the race matters (taking place in a certain country or something). But for a character living in a melting pot country? That just seems pointless and wrong to me. Why force it?

Anyway, I don't care how it pans out so long as the story and action is good. I just saw the ep and was ecstatic after the Prof. Zoom reference. I liked Gustin. Definitely extremely similar to Garfield's Peter Parker... almost painfully obviously so. I liked his dynamic with Felicity more than I thought I would. I thought it they were just throwing a bone to fanfiction writers who are crazed over romance subplots, but they made it fun on screen. Episode 9 should be pretty great. I wonder if Cyrus will be killed only to be brought back to life by the League of Assassins as a zombie?

With the Human Torch, it seems that was indeed the case (though I don't know for sure since I haven't been keeping up with the FF film). With this, it seems like they just decided to from the get-go to make Wally black before even looking for the best actor for the part in general.

There is a world of difference between changing a character's ethnicity from the get-go and casting a great actor for Wally West that just happens to be black.

I'm hoping that Elongated Man shows up at sometime in the show since his comic debut was as one of Flash's supporting characters.

If this race change is true,it's beyond stupid.Once again, not one but potentially two longstanding characters are changed for no determinable reason.

Not the best way to start a series.
