We all know the whole point of the underwear was to emulate the strongman back in the day. Well, that look is outdated. Comics got rid of the underwear. Superman didn't have it in MOS. I doubt Batman will have it now. Especially after all the Movies we got. My only hope is that they will finally come up with a new way to create the suit.

A small point, but calling anything worn as a top layer "underwear" is inaccurate.

The proper term is trunks. Not "underwear" or "undies" or "Underoos" or "panties". :oldrazz:

It just looks incredibly awkward to me in both design and even from a comfort stand-point with that weird bunching it's doing.

I actually think that's a great cosplay design myself and it's only the underwear that takes away from it. To me underwear would only hurt the aesthetics of a good costume.

And that's the problem. I feel the exact opposite, that the lack of trunks ruins the aesthetics of the suit.
And that's what it all boils down to doesn't it? You can rationalize it all you want, it all comes down to what you or I as individuals think looks good.

Of course it's a matter of personal opinion but tell me did the lack of underwear or trunks whatever on the MOS suit hurt the look of the suit for you? and by look I mean overall aesthetics not just that you would have preferred trunks due to the comics or what not.

I though the suit looked great still and didn't need trunks to complete it.

The lack of trunks definitely didn't hurt the aesthetics of any of the new Bat Suits.

No it didn't, but only because the suits were all one color. Again, the black and grey mix, IMO, looks bad without them. Looks like he's wearing one piece PJ's to me. I expect him to turn around and see a flap in the back. :wow:

TBH, no it didn't, but that may be because I'm more of a Batman fan than a Superman fan.
And It's not just because of the comics (although I admit that's a part of it) I prefer trunks on the Bat suit, I just think it looks better.

I was actually thinking of the black and grey suits. I didn't think of the Movie suits. And the black and grey ones look just fine to me.

Ah, I see. I still think the black and grey works better WITH the trunks.
Again, though, I will reiterate, I kind of like the look of the new 52 suit, if the movie producers go with a trunks-less suit (which they probably will) if they go with that aesthetic and get away from the black rubber and/or armor plate look, (NO Arkham Origins type suit, I beg you) I'd be quite happy about that.
(See, I can be flexible, LOL).

It's nice to see posters who can have strong opinions, but are still amiable, reasonable, and open to what others may prefer. Too many times have people with opposite preferences ended up rambling and fighting and not adding to the intellectual conversation.

    Such beauty :hrt:

I think that's only still true if the belt remains yellow. Making the belt black for the movies would provide that same color break the trunks provide in comics without making him look like he's wearing PJ's.

I think most people would have that as their ideal. It's just not very realistic with real world materials.

Would you guys be mad if they used CG to create Batman's cowl/cape? Maybe he could wear a partial mask and cape in reality, and only the joint between the two would be cheated in CG? They could dodge the neck problem every movie suit has had with special effects.

Incidentally, I saw someone who made a leather cowl in an effort to dodge the latex mask neck problem, and it did not look very good. I feel like it just can't really be done in the real world, short of doing it like the Adam West suit anyway, but who really wants that? I don't want to be able to see seams where the various materials were stitched together.

While I agree that there isn't much reason to include the trunks, think there's just as much reason not to include them.

There really isn't enough to merit either side.

It's really just up to personal preference of the people in charge.

Though, knowing Snyder, he might use them.

To this day, the Nite Owl suit is the ONLY cbm costume to make trunks not look the least bit silly.

Even on the very modern Superman Returns suit, the trunks looked a little bit lackluster.

Though, that was moreso due to the coloring.

And that's really the thing. Using the trunks properly is dependent upon the execution. If the execution is poor, then the trunks will lack in one way or another.

Well, I think they handled the CG cape on Superman well enough. I think it could work out alright if it's subtle and well-constructed.

I'd accept it they used a real cape for the majority of the flick and cgi where they want the cape to do a move in a specific manner.

Call them what you will. I call them undies. Cus it looks like he's wearing undies. It looks ridiculous. He will not be wearing trunks, or undies or panties. It looks really, really ridiculous.
