The BATSUIT Thread

I love everything except the collar. I loathe the collar.

And please let the theory about the bat emblem being made up of the gun that killed his parents be true!! I love it!!

I probably would have gone with sharper features on the cowl, just so it better compliments the suit. Still, by itself the cowl is probably my favorite thing about this suit. I'm surprised reactions to it have been so polarizing.

My favorite thing about it is that it's new. It's unlike any of the other cowls we've seen. I wanted them to move away from sculpted rubber, and they did. Pleased as punch.

I remember how Man of Steel's first pic of the costume also kept the trunks a mystery, which made for weeks of crazy theories. I guess it's the clever approach when you have a design with elements that may be difficult to digest.

I have a hunch that the Bat emblem opens up and shoots something out. Maybe like a dozen mini-batarangs or something.

Fan Reponse:

Step 1: beg for video and/or photo of costume

Step 2: finally receive a video and/or photo

Step 3: complain about some element of the costume and compare it to a previous version that they previously hated but all of the sudden love

Step 4: see the first trailer and decide that the costume doesn't look as bad as they originally thought

Step 5: see the film and enjoy the look

Step 6: repeat steps 1-5 when the inevitable sequel comes out

This always happens with virtually every Batman movie. I remember when Batman Begins was filming and the first image of Batman was released. Everyone called him "Fatman", then The Dark Knight was filming, everyone complained that Batman looked too robotic with the exoskeleton design, then Affleck's design comes along and people complained about how rough around the edges he appeared--as if the entire design wasn't based off of Frank Miller.

I personally love Reeve's design. So far, it matches what has been said about this being a neo noir detective story. It looks handmade and unique, but still looks like Batman.

Losing the worst, most dated and cringe aspect to his costume would be “difficult to digest”?

The fact that they hid the ears is a little concerning. Really hoping it's not those OG Batman ears...

I'm hoping it is. :hehe: I'm hoping they're wide enough apart that he's able to balance a chicken sandwich between those ears.

I feel like they'll be around Bale length, maybe a touch shorter.

Honestly, I thought the Daredevil cowl would make a good reference point for a Batman cowl. So this all worked out for me. :funny:
Same, it's just the execution that bungles it. The cowl looks so top heavy it verges on the absurd. Rather than accentuating Pattinson's strong jawline it dwarfs it, diminishing its impact. Part of that's also due to the cheek area curving up instead of rising at an angle. Without material in the chin area the extra padding exaggerates the length of the cranium; Cap's Avengers 1 costume had the same problem.

With how bulky the cowl is I have to admit that longer ears probably wouldn't work. Which is too bad, as I was looking forward to something longer than we've gotten before onscreen. Hopefully it won't look like some of the manips in this thread, which just increase the ridiculousness. The only improvement over Affleck's is at least Pattinson doesn't look fat.

To be fair though, we aren't seeing the top of the cowl. So the cowl looking top-heavy may just be a trick of the shot.

As with everything else we've seen from this movie so far... I frickin' LOVE this suit.

I absolutely love the Gotham by Gaslight collar and the Adam West inspired cowl. I particularly like how they didn't default to sculpted angry eyebrows this time. Gives him a more intelligent, calm, cool and collected look, much more fitting to the dark detective interpretation of Batman. The chest symbol is badass and I love how the armor plates on the shoulder move when he moves. Jawline and mouth opening couldn't be more perfect. And thank god for exposed nastros. Mouth breathing Batman no more.

I need to see the ears and a full body shot in regular lighting for my final assessment, but I really like what I'm seeing. It strikes a nice balance between fresh/different and classic/familiar, while clearly referencing designs from the character's history. That's how you redesign and adapt a comic book superhero suit for the screen, specially one that already had so many different versions.

Man, I'm so pumped for this movie. I think the last time I felt this way was with the first images from Batman Begins.

I wonder why costume designers can't seem to nail the eyes of the cowl?

Red Guardian's mask looks expensive than Batman's mask.

Me too ... everything

True, but even the silhouette shot at the beginning looks off. It might just be the angle, lighting or low quality video. I figure this was released now, though, because they'll be shooting exteriors with it so here's hoping we get full body shots of it soon.
