Yeah... You couldn't be more wrong.

The American version can not only stand shoulder to shoulder with the BBC version, in some ways it surpasses it, and I say that as a person that loved the original and watched it first.

Have you even WATCHED any season of the SYFY show to be making such an assessment? Cuz this show had a murderers row of both a central cast AND supporting and guest stars, with great production values and well delineated characters that were flawed but sympathetic. Even as a die hard BBC BH fan, I can't pretend that things didn't a bit off the rails for a bit, to only be righted by the chemistry of Socha, Molony and Bracken. In contrast the SYFY show never reached that point and developed into a truly memorable show without going into a "War Child" season or the like, or requiring the Apocalypse to be averted. It's stayed true to the concept as it was in those early BBC episodes with out the need to gussy things up.

If you haven't seen it past it's first season, I suggest you do, if you can actually be open to the idea that it's not simple a case of "America ruining my show." It may well surprise you.
