They are used to take our heroes to freedom, to cross post apocalyptic wastelands, to pull off bank heists, to fight for survival in a kill or be killed be situation and even to go back in time!

NOTE: Also for the sake of making things for interesting I will only be accepting one car per franchise otherwise I fear we would have an excess of Batman, James Bond & The Fast & The Furious.

The DeLorean (Back To The Future Series)

Quite possibly the most iconic car im movie history. The company itself went bankrupt after making the car but due to the success of the Back To The Future movies this otherwise obscure car has a place in the automotive hall of fame.

The Tumbler (Batman Nolan Trilogy)

Affleck's latest Batmobile provided me with a bit of a tough choice but the Tumbler has the edge for me. I remember the old days when the Batmobile was basically a cool looking body kit over a standard car. Well this clearly wasn't good enough for Nolan who had this beast created and for me still stands as the best and most realistic interpretation of Bat's famous car.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (Chitty Chitty Bang Bang)

Even after 50 years this car still stands out as one of the most iconic in movie history.

Lightning McQueen (Cars Series)

The only car on this list with a literall face lol Lightning starts off as is self-centered, arrogant, conceited, and overconfident but eventually he transforms into a more sympathetic, understanding, and selfless character.

The V8 Interceptor (Mad Max Series)

Max's Interceptor is decked out in the second film with Max adding weapons all over the car, booby trapped fuel tanks and a 200 litre fuel tank to help cut through the wasteland.

The Ecto-1 (Ghostbusters Series)

Unlike many on this list The Ecto-1 isn't here because of its raw power or super cool aesthetic look. The Ecto-1 is one of the most practical cars on the list used to ferry around all of the Ghostbusters and transport their Proton Packs for all of the crew, along with Ecto Goggles, P.K.E. Meters, and a slew of Traps.

Ford Explorer (Jurassic Park Series)

An argument could be made for this being possibly the most iconic paintjob of any movie car with the red, green and yellow style still being copied on to fan cars to this day.

Pontiac Firebird (Smokey & The Bandit)

Im going to be honest I know nothing about this car other than the fact that its one of the most iconic movie cars there is.

Aston Martin DB5 (James Bond Franchise)

This was another difficult one to pick with so many iconic Bond cars throughout the years but I had to go for my personal favourite and the one that I think is the very definition of class. The unbelievably beautiful Aston Martin DB5.

Toyota Supra (Fast & The Furious Franchise)

Again this could be a host of different cars but the one that sticks out to be is Brian's iconic orange Toyota Supra, back when these movies were you know about racing cars.

I know there will undoubtedly be some greats I missed so if your personal favourite isn't here list it in the comments below.

All good nominees. For me it's a toss-up between the Delorean and the Aston.

I'm happy you didn't put any of the "cars" from Transformers.

The Burton Batmobile is up there for me. That is one sexy car.

If i could have one the db5. Worth £4.5m i believe.

The Aston Martin, not even a contest.

You are wrong with American Graffiti. Harrisons car in that movie was a 55 Chevy driven by his character Bob Falfa. The custom 32 Ford Coupe was John Milners car.

The poll should be updated with the vehicles suggested by the previous users.
I will also add James Bond Lotus Esprit and the WW Beetle Herbie.

The movie itself left a lot to be desired but the Mach 5 from Speed Racer was just beautiful.

Love the Mach 5 (and the movie)^ , didn't want to list everything.
Although prefer the Shooting Star ;)

Racer X (who thanks to the narrator everyone knew was Speed's brother, except Speed) and his 9 Shooting Star, who I rooted for...!
And I know sacrilege- count me as one who loved the Speed Racer movie, plastic plot and visuals and all the outrageous car-fu !

I mean, it has to be the DeLorean for me, but the DB5 or Eleanor would be dream cars as well.

If I ever get my hands on an old Jeep Wrangler, I am totally doing it up as a Jurassic Park one :D

Too 5...

DeLorean, Tumbler, Burtonmobile, Lexus 2054, and Aston Martin DB5.

Yeah! You and I must be the only people who liked Speed Racer.

I thought it was great trippy fun, with a serious moral message about greed and commercialism in sports....between all the goofy stuff. Also, it's a real hero's journey type of film ( not quite Star Wars but Speed comes a long way during story).

Personally, my favourite car is the Tumbler, would love to go roof jumping in that mean machine.

Honourable mentions to Mad Max's car, Furiosa's War Rig and K's Spinner from Blade Runner 2049.

My Top 5:

5.

4.

3.

2.

1.

Of the above list I guess I'd go with the Aston Martin DB5, but some other great stuff there as well.

Lol kidding, not a movie (it should be), . Car is real though!

That's a great list, with the model names and year. I'll add a few that pop up in mind.

The California kid (1974) - 1934 Ford three-window coupé

robs-car-movie-review-the-california-kid-1974-0005.jpg

Flåklypa Grand Prix/The Pinchcliffe Grand Prix (1975) - Il Tempo Gigante (exists also in full scale with dual Chevy engines)

gigante-1.jpg

Two Lane Blacktop (1971) - 1955 Chevrolet 150 two-door sedan with 454 cid engine. Three were built for the movie, and at least one also were used later as Harrison Ford's -55 Chevy in American Graffiti.

I liked Lettys Stingray from Fate of the Furious.
