To any fan of the good cinematograhpy, what is you're favorite shots? The particular scene, that is filmed in such a great way, that it stick?

In no particular order...

*The opening shot in The Shining of the Rockies and the winding road showing Jack on his way to the hotel in his little car.

*The Joker hanging out of the cop car in The Dark Knight, the blurred lights and the silence adding to the intensity.

*The shot of the police car coming up the road in Misery and then the camera follows it doing a 180 and landing on Anne Wilkes driving her car.

*The opening cityscape shot in Blade Runner using a minature, with the flames pooring from the spires. (Most shots in this film I adore.)

More contemporary cinema:

The car chase/shootout in No Country For Old Men.

The burning oil station in There Will Be Blood.

The ending of Children of Men

Batman standing over the ruins where Rachel died.

As mentioned above,The train sequence in The Assasination of Jesse James

House of The Flying Daggers and Hero.

The children walking with their backs to the camera in The White Ribbon.

Even though it's animated,Ratatouille's run from the sewers towards the top of Paris, phenomenal angles and lighting.

The opening shot in A New Hope is always classic. I agree with redlettermedia on how it conveys the long reach and power of the empire, the ill equipped status of the rebels, and the utter desperation on the rebels through no words but just the visuals of the two ships at that particular angle.

There's alot. But one that comes to mind instantly is the Joker's introduction shot in TDK in the bank heist. I did a paper on that whole scene for my film study class. With Nolan's "larger than life" idea and him being more of a spiritual entity, that shot makes it seem literal. There's so much to that shot that I love. How he just pops up out of noewhere, in that poise just waiting. It's creepy.

Will try to give some favorite shots:

Titanic (the I'm flying Jack scene)

Hell yes to the Road to Perdition scene. Every time it rains, I think about that moment. So beautifully shot.

The scene in Children of Men where it's all one long take with him running through the warzone is probably my favorite.

although the film has already been praised I must say the attack on the car in Children of Men, the ingenuity they exercised in making that sequence deserves all the praise it can get.

also ther is a specific shot in inglourious basterds when Shoshana is running out from under the house. The shot is from within the house looking out a door. Due to brilliant lighting the inside of the house is almost completly black broken only by a rectangle of brightness on the outside in which you can see shoshan running away. It looks almost like a painting and I love it.

I know what you're talking about. I love shots like that.

It sort of reminds me of the shot from Gangs of New York when Gleeson kicked open the doors in the opeing sequence and the camera went out into the square.

This whole scene from Inglourious Basterds. Just pure brillance.

I might have to gather some better screenshots later.

I go to the biggest high school in the nation and the only film class to speak of is a half-assed one for news broadcasting. What other aspects of film did the class cover?

Some more great Pfister/Nolan shots from their underrated The Prestige:

I have actually been on this train. It is in Durango, Colorado. The views are incredible.

When I first saw this in the theater, my jaw dropped. Gorgeous photography on a massive scale.

Very surreal scene with great cinematography.

And this shot from Inception might be their best work yet:

The end scene to Oldboy.

Just beautiful with help from the movie's score. :word:

A lot of stuff from Halloween II (2009) has great shots even involving a roaming helicopter shot for Michael, but the one that catches my eye is this:

H2Moon.jpg

It's just beautiful shot of Michael Myers standing in a full moon with no clouds.

almost every Fincher movie ;)

Agreed

What I love most about this shot and pretty much the whole movie is that it most likely would have never been allowed to be filmed 2 or 3 years later, maybe now, but it'd still be neutered. This shot along with The Pixies' Where is my mind is one of my favorite parts of any movie. Ever.

Not as much as you may think. It was the only class that covered anything to do with film. We just watched an assortment of films and answered questions about the characters, the themes, mis en scene, the cinematography. It's nothing to sneeze at. It wasn't even challenging. It somehat expanded my scope on film and I got to watch some great ones, but it wasn't anything special. It's a shame, I think schools should do more film classes. One of the best things is I had a smoking hot teacher. :awesome:

That helicopter shot in You Only Live Twice when Connery is running across the rooftop and flipping Asians over his shoulder. Awesome.

i've always been a fan of the long tracking shot in Goodfellas as Ray Leotta and his girlfriend are entering the restaurant throught back entrance.
