I have to admit I'm a major fan of both versions. They both bring some great stuff to the table.

What I liked the most about both of them compared to all the previous incarnations from the 70s and 50s is these were the first to actually make the story somewhat realistic and make the protagonist wounded and flawed.

They removed the cartoony aspects of the character and thus these 2 versions will always be considered my favorites.

Try to put any biases aside and lets look at the popular positive choices that both franchaises brought to the table:

Michael Rosenbaum: He seems to be a very popular and well liked choice amongst the Superman community for Lex Luthor and his portrayal is one of the best. Even those who dislike the series, have praised his brilliant portrayal and liked him. The vast majority of the \S/ fans definatly like him.

Brandon Routh: He seems to be another popular choice among the vast majority from what Ive read, reviews and the polls on various sites Ive seen. Even among alot of fans who dislike the film, they praise Brandon's performance and say he was probably the best thing about the film (as Rosenbaum is often regarded as the best thing about Smallville).

Erica Durance: Probably the best portrayal of the modern day Lois Lane. She gets it right personality-wise where other versions didnt.

Sam Huntington: His Jimmy Olsen was perfect and hilarious. He hit it right on the mark perfectly. I think the Smallville version should be somewhat similar personality-wise.

Both franchaises have positives and negatives but the good and potential for even better definately outweighs the bad.

I believe both franchaises present us with some great stuff and both can learn things from each other. :)

Hee. Welcome to the Hype.

Now, before this thread gets closed (the Hype has a rule about not discussing Singer's film in this forum, and Smallville in the Returns' forums), I guess the goal is to get to this (click) at some point in the near future, yes?

There. I saved you the trouble. :D

PS: I'm looking forward to seeing it too. :)

I didnt realize that since I noticed people were talking about the movie openly, in other threads.

I'm not comparing them against each other but reminding everyone that both have aspects that seem to be popular and appeal to the fanbase on a whole.

Both have introduced some great things overall.

I dont care if comicbook nerds try to tear each of them up for reinterpreting the mythos. Both are successes from my point of view....

And if there would have been no reinterpretation, Superman would have ended in the 1940s.

And Hollywoodland intrigues me, but I'm not trying to advertise it lol. Theres a second meaning behind the name but its only really relevant to some people in the community forum.

I don't understand why you linked to that trailer, other than the poster's name being the same as the movie's, so I'm confused.

Thanks for that though, it looks good.

Real Good.

I'll see it. Affleck looks like he finally remembered that he could act.

;)

That's why I linked it. Figured if someone wants to shill a film, just come out and do so. But Hollywoodland said that wasn't the reason.

I've been sort of following along with this film since it was first announced. Even started a thread for it, though it's long since been buried...

The subject matter is quite interesting to me.

I was a bit leery given the subject matter and the star. I was afraid it'd virtually be a sappyfilm, but it looks far better than I thought it would be.

It's good.

Im really excited for that film, and Affleck usually sucks, but he probably looks most right for the part then any other star in hollywood.

He looks pretty good as Superman. Can somebody manip an \S/ on his chest?

I'll never look at George Reeves the same again. :(

I don't think I could handle SuperFleck. I liked him as DareDevil, not as Supes though.

This picture is actually hilarious though. :D :joker:

I'm looking forward to Hollywoodland. It seems that the movie has an intruiging plot, and the potential to be a real winner. Caught the trailer on Youtube... and it got me excited.

looks good....adrien brody is awesome

Hollywoodland should be great, I'm really looking forward to it.

I cannot wait for this movie! I'm really excited about the story and the cast. I agree that Brody is amazing, and I think Affleck gets a bum rap that's not always deserved (although sometimes it is).

Diane Lane and the actress from Deadwood are also in this; both are actors I like a lot.

Holy super sidetrack Batman,

I think the point of my original post was missed, but thats okay. I didnt know about that rule before. Its probably best to follow it since you could most likely get into trouble for breaking it, so this thread should probably be closed.

Good answer!

or we could continue the hollywoodland discussion, make the sidetrack the only track.
