What do you believe to be the best spin-offs on TV ever? Most tend to fail and suck (Joey, Saved by the Bell: The New Class/College Years, etc, etc), but they are actually quite a few good ones out there.

I'll start by saying: Angel, Fraiser, and Mama's Family.

Happy Days not only had a crap-load of spin-offs, but they were mostly good and fairly well recieved.

Angel is easily the best spin-off ever for me. It got better than Buffy over time.

how about King of Queens? Doug was a character on Everyone Loves Raymond first

Angel is my one of my favorite series of all time, so you know what I think...

Angel.

By the way, Saved by the Bell: The College Years is actually a sequel to Saved by the Bell. It is not a spin-off.

I kind of liked Saved by the Bell: The College Years when it originally aired, but looking at reruns now, it's basically just a mass of every bad '90s cliché ever.

Xena

and...*gulp* Torchwood. (braces for smacking).

Is something wrong with Torchwood? I've only seen the first season of the new Doctor Who so far and I like Captain Jack in that so when I heard he had a spin-off I thought it would be nice, is it bad? Like really bad?

Stargate:Atlantis.

Been a long time fan of SG-1 and started watching SG:A from it's start, now with it's 100th episode confirmed at the end of the fifth season i can't see that many people claiming it's not been a success.

Okay, take Jack and make him a hard-assed leader who's a hell of a lot quicker to pull the trigger on someone than he was on Doctor Who.

Throw in a bunch of promiscuous, sexually confused idiots for teammates.

[blackout]Add a girl named Gwen who greatly resembles Gwyneth from Doctor Who's "The Unquiet Dead" (same actress) with no explanation.

Make Gwen the "heart of the team," but then have her remorselessly cheating on her boyfriend within the first few episodes. Also, there are no consequences for doing so.

Oh. One of those teammates rapes two people in the first episode.

Toss in a lackluster season finale just for flavor.[/blackout]

Yeah, in trying to make Torchwood "more adult" than Doctor Who, RTD has basically just made it come off more sophomoric. The second season's a little bit better but not by much.

Also: Mork and Mindy and the Andy Griffith Show are some of my old school favorites.

I gulped because I know other people are gonna rip it to shreds, but I love it, a LOT.

can't beat angel but i love torchwood too ;)

Until I just looked it up, I always thought that Torchwood was a spin-off of Deadwood (never watched both shows).

Angel
The Facts Of Life
The Jefferson's
Family Matters
Tailspin
Duck Tales
Goof Troop

Are Duck Tales and Goof Troop spin-offs? I mean, I know the characters existed before in animated short films, but does that count as a spin-off?
