The Best Video Game Song/music ever TOURNAMENT!!!

The rules. We will all nominate a song, or songs. Don't nominate too many, try to narrow it down to your very favourites, you can always come back and nominate another too. As we go on, I'll update the list of what's been nominated, and we'll all appoint judges too. Once we're satisfied, the judges will narrow down the list to a good number, then we'll have a seperate thread to take a vote. Any other rules can be discussed and sorted out as we go along.

I'll go first. The songs I'll nominate...

Akira Yamaoka - Promise (Silent Hill 2)
Akira Yamaoka - Null Moon (Silent Hill 2)
Poets of the Fall - Late Goodbye (Max Payne 2)

I liked the ending battle song in Ultimate Spider-Man with Venom.

I think I've just decided what my first rule is. The song or piece of music has to have a name, or if you can name the composer that is fine too. What's everyone think?

Also, what's everyone think about this being in the main discussion forum instead of here in the games forum?

Well obviously MGS's main theme. That's pretty much sensational

And some of the music in USM was good.

Tetsuya Shibata - Devils Never Cry (Devil May Cry III)
Hikaru Utada - Passion (Kingdom Hearts II)
Metal Gear Solid II - Main Theme

Time Splitters 2-Chicago
Time Splitters 2-Notre Dame
Zombies Ate My Neighbors-Curse of the Tongue

Tetris - Minibosses
Super Mario Bros 2 - Minibosses
Halo Theme
Metroid - Minibosses

UPDATED LIST:

Akira Yamaoka - Promise (Silent Hill 2)
Akira Yamaoka - Null Moon (Silent Hill 2)
Poets of the Fall - Late Goodbye (Max Payne 2)
Tetsuya Shibata - Devils Never Cry (Devil May Cry III)
Hikaru Utada - Passion (Kingdom Hearts II)
Metal Gear Solid II - Main Theme (Metal Gear Solid II)
Legend Of Zelda - Main Theme (Legend Of Zelda)
Tetris - Minibosses (Tetris)
Super Mario Bros 2 - Minibosses (Super Mario Bros 2)
Halo - Halo Theme (Halo)
Metroid - Minibosses (Metroid)

If you see something wrong with any of the songs in the list, please let me know. If anyone wants to be a judge, let me know. As a judge, it would be your job to help me organise this thing and come up with rules and things of that nature. Eventually judges will help shorten down the list.

White Room & Main Title - Jesper Kyd - Hitman: Contracts

Best song fro ma video game of all time - Theme to Dr. Mario

All you newbies should be ashamed to call yourself "gamers". It's downright ridiculous that a thread like this gets made and no mention of Bill Brown, Jeremy Soule, Yasunori Mitsuda or Nobuo Uematsu, arguably some of the finest game composers in the biz today.

All of the games I'm listing are well-deserving candidates for the "Best Music in a Videogame" honor:

Bill Brown

The Rainbow Six series - especially Rogue Spear. The main theme is some of the best music you'll ever hear. Period.

Clive Barker's Undying - rivals some of the best Hollywood scores in the genre, it's that good.

Shadow Watch - Excellent stuff all around.

Yasunori Mitsuda

Chrono Trigger/Cross - Both games have phenomenal music, but Cross' score is much more mature and melodic. One of my all-time favorites.

Xenogears - Another one of my favorites. It's significantly more dark and moody than anything Mitsuda has done before (perfectly complements the epic and surreal nature of the game's storyline). Which also makes it a worthy contender for possibly being his best work to date.

Nobuo Uematsu

Final Fantasy VII - Come on, who doesn't love this one? It's a classic in every sense of the word.

Final Fantasy X - Loved it, loved it, loved it. I just re-played through FFX a month ago and honestly couldn't believe just how bloody amazing the score was. Although it's a bit shaky at times, some of the tracks are simply so mesmerising and emotional you'll be wondering if you're still playing a videogame.

Jeremy Soule

The Elder Scrolls Morrowind - The main theme alone does it for me. Serene, tranquil, beautiful...those are just some of the words I'd use to describe the music in Morrowind.

The Elder Scrolls Oblivion - Oblivion's music is just like Morrowind's, except that it sounds increasingly more pompous, grand and epic. And that main theme is so good, it's a crime not to have it being mentioned in the same breath as MGS or Halo's.

Republic The Revolution: I've been endlessly hunting the score for this game like crazy (can't even find it on eBay  ). Seriously, the 100 bucks I'm ready to pay for this rare gem isn't a worthy enough testament to just how drop-dead awesome the music is.

Deus Ex: Those who have already played the game (quite a few of you) will vouch for this one.

Commandos II: Most of the gamers in here probably don't even remember this one, let alone play it. But that doesn't hinder the fact that it is good enough for a much deserving mention in this thread.

Sonic 2,3 and S&K
Kingdom Hearts
Splinter Cell
Halo 1 and 2
Ecco
Final Fantasy series
Mortal Kombat
Chrono Trigger
Adventures of Batman and Robin

Um.... any specific songs or just the games? What's actually beign nominated here?

Silver Sable, you'll have to be more specific. Which "level" or part of the game are you talking about??

Does anyone know of any sites that have game music on them? It would be helpful for me so I can listen to stuff I haven't heard or haven't heard in awhile.

I, BISON, am now a judge!! If you have a problem with that...I don't care!!

I nominate:
Akira Yamaoka - Tender Sugar (Silent Hill 4)
Title Song - (Ecco the Dolphin: The Tides of Time)
Deep Ridge - (Ecco the Dolphin: The Tides of Time)
Akira Yamaoka - Alone in the Town (Silent Hill 2)
Mary Elizabeth McGlynn - Room of Angel (Silent Hill 4)
Angel Island Zone - (Sonic 3)
