The Big DC SDCC Thread 2008

Excited for Flash: Rebirth. Hopefully we'll have several Flash's running around. I wouldn't mind that one bit.

Things that stood out to me so far; especially in Superman are;

Johns then said it’ll continue to be a mix of old and new, and that, “We’ll come up with something for Captain Atom, as well”

I didn't like the fact that he seemed to mention this when talking of villains but he certainly didn't say Monarch.

I'm really kind of stoked for the New Krypton idea, it's painfully obvious Jonathan Kent is dying but I'm excited for what both creators are trying to do with the comics.

Also;

if Jimmy Olsen knowing Superman’s identity in Countdown will be dealt with (it won’t, with both Robinson and Johns expressing distaste for the idea)

Is nice.

Aquaman? He'll be in Final Crisis #3.

Ohhhhhh.

I just can't be excited for Barry. The guy has been dead for as long as I've been alive.

Not excited for much of anything in there. I preferred Superman as the Last Son of Krypton, so neither New Krypton nor Superwoman appeal to me. About the only thing that'd get me reading Superman comics again is if Kon-El came back and became a good supporter for Clark instead of the redheaded stepchild of the Super-family he always was.

Captain Atom could be cool depending on how it's done. Same with Aquaman (i.e. keep the water hand and forget about those ugly dishwashing gloves).

I like how the countdown retcons are happening so quickly.

The fact that it looks like Captain Atom is mentioned as a Superman villain is probably just due to Matt Brady being terrible at his job and not communicating effectively. A good side of this Silver Age redux business is that they're not going to want to do so much of the hero-as-villain stuff.

Or the harpoon.

Harpoon was cool too.

If they bring back the water hand, they need to bring back Veitch to keep writing that part of the story. The water hand was part of a broader story arc that Veitch was telling, which seemed to get abruptly interrupted in favor Arcudi, of all freaking people. I'm not saying Arcudi didn't do a great job, but we never got to read where Veitch was taking the water hand story.

Well, Veitch doesn't need to write it, necessarily, but he should at least be consulted on his plans. The Secret Sea and Lady of the Lake stuff was cool, but Veitch's Thirst arc was kind of... not good. So he's got good ideas, but I wouldn't be averse to someone else adapting them and expanding on the water hand.

And, for the record, it was Pfeifer who interrupted Veitch. Arcudi came after Pfeifer and rocked pretty hard. He almost kinda sorta started looking at the water hand again, too. Ostrander did some cool stuff with it, but more with its abilities than its backstory.

Johns' Action Comics has been unbelievably atrocious. Robinson's Superman, however, has really impressed me. God knows I wish he would stop communicating with Johns.

This one was interesting. There seems to be a lot of unannouncable (sic) upcoming projects and vague indications of unvague plans. And Rucka on two upcoming series?

Hey kids, this is what sniffing glue does to your brain.

DC Nation 2 Panel

Highlights include Neil Gaiman and Andy Kubert on some post-RIP Batman thing and Dan Jurgens taking over as Booster Gold's writer after Remender, who's apparently only on for a two-issue fill-in.

Gaiman on Batman? Does that fit? As far as I can remember, Gaiman hasn't even written a story without :wish:SUPERMAGIC:wish: in it for years and years.

I do enjoy the title "Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader?".

Denny O'Neil is doing some work on Batman too apparently, so it's kind of exciting.

Should I be excited for Flash:Rebirth?

Depends on whether you like Barry Allen and want to see him as the main Flash from now on.

This was an unnecesary thread. Corpys probably just gonna put it in the Stupid question or SDCC thread.

The only All Star news from DC at Comic-Con was that DC is pretty much done with it. DC said that they're not making any new All-Star books.

And on top of the fate of the All Star line in general is not looking good one bit. Issues 11 and 12 of All Star Batman & Robin have been cancelled because Frank Miller and Jim Lee are far too busy for the time being. The All Star Superman ongoing is ending this month. All Star Batgirl has been put on hold indefinitely because Geoff Johns is busy with the 5 bajillion books he writes and J.G. Jones is busy with Final Crisis. All Star Green Lantern was confirmed two years ago and not a single detail has been mentioned. And who knows what is up with All Star Wonder Woman.
